  1. Thank you to Spartan Tactical for the use of their amazing range and to Remington and all the other sponsors for making this match both possible and such a great time! Also, a huge thank you to all the behind the scenes people; without all that great support the match would not have worked. Thank You All!

I am already looking forward to shooting this one again! The stages were really well done with some really cool props, bouncy bridge and Huey, the ROs were great and the whole thing ran really smoothly!

If you didn't get to shoot this match this year put it on your schedule for next year. It is well worth the trip! Great Place, Great People, Great Prize Table!

Finally, thanks for all the fun Squad 2! What a fun group of people to shoot with!

See you guys out there next year!

    James

  2. Adding my Thanks and praises to the match! Larry and the whole FN crew did their usual job of putting together a great match with an unbelievable prize table. The side matches were nice and the half day format meant I actually got to shoot them. The only complaint there would be that now I really want one those SC1s! That is a really nice shotgun!

Thanks again to everyone who worked the match to help it go so well!

See you out there next year for sure!

    James

  3. Thanks to Kirk, Misty, and all of the staff for a good match. My sides/stomach still hurt from laughing all weekend with Squad 8. That has to be the most fun I've ever had at any match. Congrats to West and James C for their wins. It's always a pleasure to shoot with y'all.

A big thanks to all of the sponsors!

Are the scores posted anywhere yet?

So true! Everyone on Squad 8 was so much fun to shoot with, Thanks to everyone on it for one of the most fun matches I have had. Thanks to Kirk, Misty and all the staff for the hard work. Finally but definitely not least Thank you to all the sponsors for another very well supported match!

  4. I would like to add my thanks to all the great people out at Rockcastle who worked so hard to put on this match. That is one of the greatest shooting venues in the country for sure and it was so great to be back out there playing the game with all the great people in 3-Gun. All of the lodge staff, match staff, match director and range masters did an absolutely killer job of making the event something to remember.

Again, the sponsors were incredible! From great food and free beer in the evenings to the vender booths and an amazing prize table; you couldn't ask for more.

Thank you all again! I'll see you out there next year!

    James

  5. Thank you, JJ and Denise and all the setup crew, RO's and staff for the hard work you put into this year’s match. I do know how much effort it takes to put this match on and I am REALLY glad that there are people like you all out there willing to do it. That was definitely the toughest match I have shot all year, in one of the most beautiful locations in the country. Way to go again!

Also, a huge Thank you to all of the sponsors for making this and all the matches possible! Once again the prize table was amazing and I finally got to pick up the JP rifle at the head of the LI table! :goof: Thank you John and everyone at JP for the incredible support you give to 3-Gun!

Finally; thank you to Squad 12, it was great shooting with all of you again! I look forward to the next time; until then good shooting!

  6. Thank you to Nordic Components, Del-Tone/Luth, all the generous sponsors, ROs and staff! This was a Great Match! Last year was fun, but this year was a huge step up. Thirteen stages, all of which were challenging and fun in one way or another, very friendly and helpful ROs and staff and a really impressive prize table all came together to make a really successful match. I'll definitely be back next year. If you haven't made it to this match yet, look for the app for next year and get it on your calender. It is worth the trip!

Squad 1 was a blast to shoot with. Thanks for great time!

Once more; Thanks to everyone who helped make this match go off so well! I'm already looking forward to the next one!

    James

  7. WOW! What a cool and fun match! 18+ hours of driving each way for it and I would do it again next week! I any case I will be back next year without hesitation. I got to play with some toys that I haven’t even seen in person before and I got to take home some new toys that are really cool! Add to all that, I got to shoot with a great squad of some of the best shooters in the country and it all sums up to being one of the most fun matches I have shot.

Congratulations to Daniel, Rob and Tyler for the 1,2, and 3 spots! Way to go guys!

Ian, Chuck, Travis, Roseanne, Tiffany, the RO's and everyone else involved, did a great job to make this match something to remember and all deserve about a week of sleep now that it's in the books. Thank you all for your hard work; from my perspective it paid off in spades!

Crimson Trace was unbelievably generous to all of us, shooters and ROs, by supplying most if not all the lights and laser gear a shooter needed to compete in the dark and by hosting the event in the first place.

All of the Sponsors; Bladetech, Bushmaster, Colt Competition, Danner, Federal Ammunition, FLIR, FNH, Leatherman / LED Lenser, Leupold, MGM Targets, Nike, Nosler, Otis, Primary Weapons Systems, Warne Scope Mounts, and if I missed anyone I do apologize! All of these companies donated hugely and everyone at the match walked away with a bunch of goodies! If you need something that any of these companies makes please repay their generosity by buying from them, they are all doing a great deal to help our sport grow.

Lastly, pay attention to this when this match is announced for next year and GO! Running and gunning at night is something that should not be missed.

Thanks again to all who made this match work!

  8. Oh Goody Oh Goody Oh Goody Oh Goody! Man this is going to be a fun match! Those are some great Stage diagrams and fun looking stages! Along with all the amazing sponsors and really cool stage guns and toys this is really shaping up to be an event to remember! Iain, Chuck, Roseann and everyone else at Crimson Trace and elsewhere helping out with this match, Thank you! I can’t wait to get out there and play!

    James

  9. So I've been having so much fun playing with lights and lasers that I almost forgot about round counts and ammo types. Do you have a basic round count and will we need/want slugs and buck?

Thanks! I can't wait to get out there and play! This is going to be awesome!

    James

    Round count is:

    Rifle: 92

    Pistol: 64

    Shotgun: 36

    Optional SG or Pistol: 47

    Stage Guns: 72

Each stage with shotgun will have 4-8 static clay birds. The birds are shotgun only. There are several stages that also give you the option of shooting plates or poppers with shotgun or handgun, your call. There are no slugs required or allowed. Also no reason at all for Buckshot. I'll try and get the match booklet online next week. It's pretty sweet. Crimson Trace's marketing group did up the book for us and it looks great. Trust me, it looks a lot better than the pencil sketches I sent to them.

    Excellent! Thanks Chuck!

Thank you to everyone putting on this match. It just keeps getting better every time I hear something new. The grin just won’t leave my face, gruesome mental image I know, but man is this going to be fun!

  10. I had a FNX and got rid of it due to the lack of support. Nice gun, but at that time you couldn't get a decent holster. 5" barrel is nice, but no FO front sight, non adjustable rear, no magwells. Try to find aftermarket sights for a FNH.

Hang tight, all this is changing. This gun is worth people putting the effort into aftermarket parts. Sights, base pads, mag-well … they are all coming, and not too far down the road. :)

  11. That is a pretty sweet looking setup! The FN boys and girls are already driving the little brother of this gun with impressive results. This long slide version could be really good for the 3-gun game. Rumor has it that extended base pads are already on the way too.

  12. Thanks Casman for the reply and trying to make me feel better :D . Even if a BDC were available, I sure would hate to drop more money on this scope (rather spend it on ammo). I'm just starting out with 3 gunnin and the matches I attend so far haven't required shots beyond 200 yards. Most of the stuff is close (CQB distances) to mid range. I'll try and make this reticle work for me. BTW, I picked up a 2012 Leupold Tactical Optics catalog and the only reticle listed for the Prismatic is the circle plex! I'm trying so hard to justify my purchase

Makes sense to me. 200 yards and in the Circle plex will work great. Funny thing with that catalogue, for some reason they don't list/have the DCD in the tactical line. You have to look at the hunting line to get it. I don't know why anyone wouldn't want the hunting line scope anyway, its exactly the same other than the reticle and you get some nice bling with a gold band around it. I have a really cool National Wild Turkey Assoc. Pris in brown. :)

  13. I have the Prismatic with the circle plex reticle and I just ordered a LaRue "tall" mount for it. It is (or was) going on top of my 16". Does that mean I'm SOL when it comes to using this reticle in matches. Can anyone tell me the upside of the circle plex reticle so I won't feel like I wasted my money on it :( ?

Honestly, if you are using the Circle Plex reticle the BDC dial may be just the ticket. I started with the Circle Plex and changed to the DCD reticle after finding things to be a bit too heavy in the Circle plex. You can set your Zero in such a way that the dot size and spacing to the vertical line below can give you pretty good range hold info. The problem is that the line and dot are so thick that at longer ranges they really obscure the target. By using the BDC dial you could optimize the reticle spacing for specific stages so that your holds aren’t obscuring your targets.

Hope that makes you feel better. :)

  14. I have a Prismatic on my 9MM AR. I use it for steel matches and 3 Gun matches that require pistol caliber carbines. As far as close up speed goes it gives up nothing to a RDS. For a 5.56 Tactical Irons I think the the Pris with the CM-R2 reticle would be the sight to beat.

I agree, I have begged the Custom Shop guys to do, Something, but unfortunately the twelve of us that use these things aren’t quite enough market for them to invest in the development needed to offer more reticles. Luckily it's pretty dang good as it is, and they will do a custom BDC dial for you if you want.

Oh yah, and there are rumors of something in the works, but you know how rumors go.

I'm in the process of researching an new optic, and ran across this article...maybe the rumors were true???

Money quote - "BDC dials are available through Leupold's Custom Shop."

How much does the custom shop charge to do one?

The BDC Dial is indeed available, I think it is roughly $100 if you send them your scope. Dy-No! has had one done and made some posts about it. I believe he is pretty happy with the setup other than the dial being a bit tall. He is the guy to ask though, I know he has done quite a bit of testing with it.

  15. Here is how I see it, and I too was on the squad ahead of the big boys. This is my first major match after competing locally for 1 year. After winning or placing high in local matches there comes a time when we all want to branch out and see how we stack up and learn from those better than us.

From the time I got to my hotel, I shook hands with James Casanova in the parking lot. Then he invited me into his room to help me with holdovers for the long range stage, which he had already walked thru and lased for range and I was unable to do because of my 13 hour commute. The willingness to help some noboby from a top ten competitor was awesome right from the start and set the stage for the rest of the match.

I then get to the match on Friday and run into some of the big boys from last years 3 gun nation TV show. They shake hands, ask ME how my stages are going, give me some tips on my upcoming stages, and sit now and enjoy a pop and brisket wrap with some guy they have never met. (Big thanks to Eric Lund, Keith Garcia, Clint Upchirch, Pat Kelley, Rustin Bernskoetter, and Mike Voigt)

That night at the motel I run into Jesse Tischauser and have a smoke with him outside the hotel while we talk about stages and the match in general. Go out for dinner and lo and behold who is catching a beer at the bar but Daniel Horner. He recognizes me in my shooting apparel and I catch a beer while chatting about the stages and the last couple days shooting.

I also talk to Sheldon Carruth each night in the hotel lobby and he wants MY opinion on the targets used, how the match is running, and what could be better.

Now I will say this, at times the camera crew behind us was slightly distracting but I think we all could learn to tune out distractions during a match. What a small price to pay for growing interest in our sport, more brand support and feedback from shooters actually being listened to by big companies, and being able to rub elbows with the stars of this sport for both the entertainment and the learning value. Try catching a NFL game, asking to pay an entry to compete with the big boys, and ask if you can meet a few of them for tips and tricks over a beer later. There simply is no other sport offering this kind of opportunity!!!

    OK rant off

PS...Props Glen and Shiloah from Seekings Precision. You guys were a class act to shoot with and I had a blast...To the Brown brothers, thanks for the Texas hospitality until we meet again

Sheldon...to you and your crew....Great Work...This was an EPIC first match for me

    Jacob,

It was good meeting you man! Word to the wise, if I ever invite you into my room to discus holding anything don't do it. We will both regret it in the morning!

That's just sick! Funny, but Sick! :)

Jacob, it was great to meet you. Good luck and we'll see you at the next one.

    James

James you really gotta change your screenname to your full names. Everything is see Casman all I can think of is that Seinfeld episode.

Oh Man! I think you might be right. I knew I was missing some essential education by not seeing that show.

  17. Great Match! Thanks to Rob, Pete, Chad, all the 3Gun Nation, and Ancient City Shooting Range people for their hard work putting it together. I had an absolute blast of a time. The stages were fast and fun with a ton of ways to break them down and shoot them differently. I don't think it was possible to not have a great squad at this match but everyone on Squad A was amazing to shoot with. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

A huge thanks to all of the sponsors too! This wouldn't be possible without them.

    James

  18. Does it have to be mounted on the actual rifle?

I don't see anything in the rules that stops you from carrying a flashlight in your hands, attached to your hat etc., but I think setting up a generator and arc light on a tripod might be considered gamesmanship  . I imagine most folks will want to attach something to their rifle, and we are just letting everyone know that it will be OK to do this without violating the rules. Some may decide against using a light at all - it will be their call when they see the stage.

Do lights with integrated lasers put you in Open?

  19. I wonder if this guy link could put some dots in one of these scope so you could have marks for 300 and 400 yards?

Just a thought  if Luepold sees enough people with a BDC maybe they will get it :sight:

I just sent him an email. Let's find out.

    That would be SO COOL!

Thanks for the post stre-tch and the follow up Chuck!
