  1. Hi everyone I am intending to use ISMI springs. This is my first 1911 style gun. I have an 5" SV Infinity in 9mm and using 146gr projectiles with VV N330 3.9gr powder. 1- What recoil spring poundage would suit this setup? 2- Would standard 1911 springs fit the SV Infinity guide rod? (for those who do not know the SVI spring and guide rod,it is encapsulated with a tube). 3- Also I was wondering if the ISMI spring would fit inside this tube. Considering that the ISMI is a flat spring, would that increase its outside diameter? Regards villihun
  2. Hi I have bought my first new Glock 17 so I am still learning about the parts. What is the difference between the things listed below, and how do you determine which one you need or use? old style extractor? new style extractor? extractor with loaded chamber, new style? Regards villihun
  3. Hi there My favorite powder is Vuhtavuori N330 which was specifically designed for 9mm. Measures well and has a very consistent burning rate. I have found that the 145gr projectiles with 3.8-3.9gr powder gives me the best accuracy. The overall length of the load should be 29mm. Reloading is half of the fun. Regards villihun

  5. Hi Does anyone have any experience with EGW undersized dies, and are they any good? Would I need one to reload for Glock 17 9mm? I reload for other 9mm,but this is my first Glock. My concern is about getting the glock-bely on the brass and ironing it out with the die. The second question would be; What difference would it make to change the 17lb guide rod spring down to 15lb spring? Would it damage the gun and would it still cycle reliably? I was thinking to change the plastic guiderod for a stainless one. In particular for the "(btguiderods.com)" sounds like they make some good quality guiderods. Any comments would be appreciated. Kind regards villihun
  6. Hi everybody I'm shooting an SV Infinity in 9mm, and recently had a good opportunity to buy some VV N330 and N340 powders at a very good price. What loads would work best with these powders considering that the projectiles are 124gr hardcast lead and 146gr hardcast lead, also I have got 2000 124gr copper coated rounds. Would the COL. be the same or different for `124 and 146gr bullets? What is a good starting point for the COL? I have just started reloading recently so any help is sincerely appreciated. Kind regards villihun
  7. Hi everybody I have a 9mm SV Infinity and I'm getting lots of lead fouling in it. The bullets are hard cast lead 124 gr. I'm yet to try the copper jacketed projectiles. At the range someone suggested that the bullets may be a little oversized or the barrel is too tight. I have measured the bullets and they are exactly 9mm. Then I have measured the inside of the barrel at the exit end, and it measures 8.8mm. (.346 in inches). So what are the allowed tolerances with the barrels? Also it was suggested to me to push a bullet through the barrel with a piece of dowel and then measure the projectile to get the true inside dimension of the barrel. Is there any merit to this exercise? Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to resolve this problem? Thanks in advance villihun It takes one good man to do nothing, for evil to prevail.
  8. Hi everyone I'm using the Dillon 550 reloading machine, and both powder chargers are dropping irregular charges. Between 4.4-4.9gr. Also I use a designated toolhead for each caliber, one for 38/357 and one for 9mm. The powder for 38/357 is Vihtavuori Tin Star N32C, and for 9mm is Vihtavuori N330. I have checked the charges with Redding beam scale and the scale has been checked with weights. How do I achieve more consistent charges? Kind Regards from villihun
  9. G'day mate, I just happen to work with stuff like that where you get broken bits and pieces, especially decapitated stainless screws and bolts, but since you have a aluminium base to work around it makes it more difficult. Allas do not despair, for the piece you want out is led covered with copper. What I would do is this: Fix the press securely where it won't move on you, then get a sharp punch marker. Locate the middle of the bullet and punch mark it. (the flat side, or the back of the bullet) Then get a small diameter e.g. 1-2mm long shank drill bit (sorry I,m not good with imperial measures) drill the marked point about 3/4 of the lenght of the bullet. Increase the bullet diameter and drill it out again, keep increasing the drill bit and repeat this until it is safe, (meaning, do not hurt the press ). You have two options here ; 1 As someone already mentioned to get a screw drive it in and gently wriggle it out. 2 This is what I would do (you will need a steady hand for this though) get a 6 or 8mm chisel for wood, and gently cut down where the cavity is between the 2 dies and the remaining bullet diagonally down as far as you can. if you do everything right the bullet will be cut in half and should collapse after cutting. Then use a long nose plier to dislodge the remaining bullet just like a dentist would, when he is pulling out your wisdom tooth. (at this stage some tapping might help from the opposite direction with an appropriate size wooden dowel). Regards and good luck to you and to everyone on the forum villihun
  10. Hi Jim M. HSMITH and everybody Thank you for the quick reply to my questions. The guns I'm intending to shoot are. S&W 38/357 V-COMP. HK USP Expert, and SIG 226 X-5 allrounder, bearing in mind that I will have to make a choice between the two semi autos. Any thought on those two (pros/cons). I'm avere of the price difference, and would be using it in IPSC events. P.S.Thank's guys I will order the 550B press. and as you said Jim M. "to allow for future growth" (not in the waist line though ). I would like to use Brian (our host) for ordering, but unfortunately he is not accomodating international orders eg. Australia, so, I will have to order direct from Dillonprecision. Regards to everyone villihun
  11. G'day everyone I'm new to the reloading and I have joined this forum because it was one of the most practial and informative forums I have come across. There are a few questions I would like to ask and any help would be greatly appreciated. 1. I'm thinking to buy either the Dillon RL 550B or the Forster Co-ax single stage press. a) What would be the reloading rate per hour with these presses. (would like to reload about 800+ rounds per month) 2. I will reload 9mm and 38/357cal. mainly led and hard cast led bullets, so which dies would be the best performers, considering that some dies are not performing as good with these calibers? Reffering to some bulging on the bottom of the cases like belted magnum appearance. 3. Do the dies clog/gunk up quicker with led projectiles? And what would be the easiest and best way to clean them? 4. Is the EGW die (U-die) made by Lee, the universal re-sizing die?
