  1. I voted 771 only because that's what I have. I know that is not what you are looking for but since I have never tried 773's all I can say is that I used 771 to shoot L-10 with a skinny gun for a few years with no issues and they work fine for single stack. I never though about replacing them since the have never given me a reason to replace them. The only change I have ever made to them was to bevel the inside top edge to allow for smoother stuffing during mags on the table stages.

Thnx for the input Chuck. I am kinda torn because I have always heard great things about the 771's but the 773's are shorter so I thought they might be better suited for the shorter mags of single stack.

  2. Marty Kolodziej at Accuracy Speaks is doing exceptional XD triggers. His shop is located at Rio Salado Sportsman's Club in Mesa, AZ 480-373-9499

Or reach him through the shop email address which is derrick.martin@att.net Beware, they're busy.

    Jim

+1 for Marty. Robbie Leatham is using his trigger now.

  3. All I really need is, no wait, I have that.

And if I don't I am sure I'll be able to acquire it if TSRHTF (R=Really as in unlike y2k, but more like that 60's rock song, "the End of the World as We Know It")

I have a well. I have a generator, I have wild game that is semi-tame in abundance in my neighborhood. Downside is that I have Neighbors.

Anyone think that perhaps a little better screening of people that are visiting the U.S. OR returning from other places MIGHT just have avoided some of this?

    Jim

Neighbors might be a good thing, you could eat them. I cannot thinks of a more whole or complete for for people other than people.

  4. Hey guys, I've been shooting production division for a little while and have been using Berry's Plated bullets through my G35, but after seeing how much cheaper Moly and lead are I've bought a Storm Lake SS barrel to shoot either lead or Moly through. My initial thought was to shoot moly, but after seeing how much cheaper yet lead is... it's got me thinking once again. It's time to order bullets again so which is better?

is the extra price of the moly bullets justified for minor loads? My load so far has been 3.3gr Clays loaded to 1.135 OAL with whatever 180gr bullet. I had ordered some Precision bullets to try and they worked well, then Black Bullets international are even cheaper Moly, has anyone used them? Now I've just heard about S&S Casting and they're cheaper plain lead. If I'm shooting minor with 180gr bullets will plain lead bullets build up? How often will I have to clean, is one more reliable than the other???

There really is not a difference in reliability between lead or molly. Lead is nice and cheap but tends to be smokier than molly. Molly is a little cleaner in your dies also. You are probably gonna have to switch from Clays to Solo 1000 or WST because Clays will be too smoky with either lead or molly.

  5. Some other guys have already said it but it sounds like you are a little too low. Try bumping the charge up some. If the load is too light it will not seal the bullet in the rifling and gas will get by and cause smoke. Hope that helps.

  6. Thanks for the info. I'll get some Wilson 47d"s on order. What thickness of base pad do I need with my Stock Sprinfield Loaded 45 ??

The standard base pad will work fine but I would get the .625" (big ones) and trim them down a little to fit the box. No harm in adding a little extra insurance plus if you get an enormous magwell later you will have enough pad.

  7. McCormick basepads will attach to your GI mags if you drill and tap the bottom. I am sure you could glue them on also. But, like everyone else said, buy some Wilson or other brand aftermarket mags. GI mags are only 7 rounders also, having the 8th round makes an enourmous difference when shooting single stack in this game.

  8. There has long been talk about making this book into a movie. Would be a 3-parter. Last I heard Angelina Jolie wanted the part of Dagney Taggart!!
I think the book was killer.

I know, it was long. But I'll be reading it again!

    Jack

Well that would ruin it IMO. Angelina is hot but she is freaking nuts. She should stick to wearing vials of blood around her neck and adopting foreign children. :)

  9. Dave,

I have special interest in this as I own a SOCOM 16 and have wondered about this. It sure would be nice to load for cheaper. Are you casting your own? What does using a gas check entail? Does it protect your charge from eroding the bullet base? Does this effect obturation or does the gas check operate as the base would itself?

    irq23,

This rifle is designed with a comp from the factory to control the muzzle rise resulting from firing a full power .308 out of a 16" barrel.

I know what the comp does. I am just wondering if shooting lead bullets through it will clog it up like an open gun does.

  10. Yes, a gas check is necessary at the velocities I desire. Bevel base bullets do not work well at all and I have not yet tried plain flat base bullets, though I wouldn't have high expectations for those either.

The fouling issue is not as bad as most assume. I do not have any problems with bore leading. Other shooters report no leading of the gas system, but in my case time will tell.

So far results are very positive. With my very first load all my shots will group into the A Zone at 100 yards, which is actually better than some jacketed bullets I have tried. I think I am in the vicinity of Major PF and will break out the chrono soon to confirm. They seem to cycle reliably but more testing will be needed to confirm that.

    Dave Sinko

That is somewhat surprising when one considers the leading a comp gets on an open blaster. Interesting. I wonder if it would happen if you ran a comp on your .308. A comp would most likely be desirable to be competitive.
