  1. I too have just set up my new to me SDB in 45acp. and have the older style measure... What would I need to purchase to convert to the failsafe? Connor
  2. I have been using my SDB for years directly mounted to my bench. The primer catcher on my press is the long blue plastic arm mounted to the press and the blue primer pocket with the tabs that clip into the plastic holder arm. I now have my press mounted to a Strong Mount and require a lower profile catcher setup as shown on the SDB press on the Dillon site. Can someone tell me which parts are required to make the switch... Thanks in advance! Connor
  3. These are the best benches! The month spent building the bench will undoubtably give you untold years of memorable reloading! I built my reloading bench about 12 years ago using the RCBS plans that were supplied in plastic wrapped American Hangunner magazine... I love this bench! I too would send the press to Dillon for a refurb. You'll have a winning combo!
  4. Hello. As indicated, I will be loading 9mm for the first time in a second SDB I just purchased. I have been loading .45 loads for some time using an SDB, using both CLAYS and Universal Clays. In all honesty, these are the only two powders I have ever loaded with so my experience with powders is somewhat limited. Unfortunately I live in a small town and am limited to the powders available to me. Over the many long years shooting I have acculuated nearly 16,000 9mm cases and decided it was maybe time to sell OR get rid of the cases or start loading. A PERFECT opportunity to purchase another SDB and a couple of 9mm pistols for my wife and I. I am shooting a Berretta 92F and my wife is shooting a Ruger P89. Until now I have been purchasing 115gr. Federal ball ammunition with perfect results. Now that I will be loading 9mm. My question is, what are you favourite "practice" loads and your favourite "deffensive" loads? I'm looking for a good starting point. I figure the best place to start would be right here. What are your favourite load configurations and why? Thanks in advance. Connor
  5. Hello. I'm hoping other forum members might help with advise on their favourite compensator blank sources? I did a Search compensators and came up with a TON of useful advise regarding fit and other aspects of a compensator, but not alot of information regarding sources. I have 4 Officer coned compensators on order with George at EGW for a couple of Carry-Comp pistol projects, but now I'm looking for alternative sources for other projects. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Connor
  6. I have the measurement I was looking for, 12.25". I built a "dillon type" strong mount for one of the C-Frames that I will also be attaching the Lee powder measure to. I have an RCBS Uni Flow measure mounted to my bench right now, but it's a little too big to attach to the mount and having to slide my chair from station to powder measure doesn't work for me anymore. The Lee measure is just the ticket and I'm told they're very accurate. Connor
  7. I have a couple of Lee C-Frame presses I use strictly for load development, and then the proven loads are handed off to my Dillon SDB. I have a Lee Perfect Powder measure on order which won't arrive until the middle of next week, which will be mounted alongside one of the C-Frame's. My question is simple... I require the overall height measurement of the powder measure and stand combined. I want to have the cover made for the press before the measure arrives. Can someone please measure the height on their Lee Perfect Powder measure for me? I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance. Connor
  8. Sounds like maybe we could have a futer " SDB Case Feeder / Bullet Feeder" build-off challenge ahead???!!! Could be VERY profitable for the winner, because I for one would be near the head of the line-up! There is absolutely NO shortage of amazingly talented members at this site... It's only a matter of time before it happens! Connor
  9. +1 Had my SDB for less than a month and already looking for another for 10MM loading.
  10. Thanks again Rocket35, I appreciate it. Connor
  11. Can somebody please tell me the footprint measurements for the SDB strong mount? I'm trying to reorganize my bench before the mount gets here and would like to know how much room I need to leave for it and around it. Thank you. Connor
  12. Finally got around to taking the SDB out the handmade wooden box it was shipped in! I'm very happy with the way it was shipped to me. The press is in EXCELLENT condition. Unfortunately, the person I purchased it from is a smoker and the press is going to need a good cleaning. Oh well, gets me familiarized with the machine... I will be purchasing the low powder indicator and strong mount for this press. I have one question: Is it possible to replace the clear tube portion of the powder measure? This one has turned quite yellow over time. I see some SDB's have a screw at the base of the tube to allow changing just the tube? My SDB does not have that screw... If it is replaceable, I'd like to order it with the other parts... Thanks again. Connor
  13. All great reommendations and suggestions, thanks a bunch! Press should be here today and set up this afternoon. I just purchased 4 of the "Dillon blue" powder measure adjustment knobs from a person who makes them and sells them on eBay. I plan on getting a couple extra measures for the SDB and near future RL550. Thinking ahead... Connor P.S. The pet feeders I purchased are the exact same as Rocket35's... they are the dog feeders. They seem to work great! The smaller red feeders are cat feeders... I saw those, but passed on them as I will be loading larger quatities and the openings on the dog feeders was larger.
  14. +1 Nu Finish also. I tried it today on a batch of 45ACP brass for the first time and it came out great! Poured in a small portion of Nu Finish to new walnut brass, tumbled for nearly 3 hours, removed from tumbler BRIGHT with an added benefit... NO DUST RESIDUE! Wish I'd have tried this sooner! Thanks guys! Connor
  15. Just curious as to what others are using for brass polish? I have never added polish to the crushed walnut I use in my tumbler, but may give it a try. I have read Nu Finish car polish in some of the other threads... How well does this work? Any information or comments welcome.
  16. Thank you again for all of the great info! I can't wait to get the SDB mounted to my bench (typical RCBS bench built 12 years ago) and get it set up. I believe it has the strong mount already, but not 100% positive. Rocket35, I picked up the EXACT same pet feeders you have! Will post pictures when I have the press set up. Connor
  17. Wow, great info guys, thank you. I certainly appreciate the advise, it's great to be able to get user feedback. I really like the pet feeder idea! I used a single stage Lee for my early reloading years and can't wait to step up to the SDB. The pet feeder idea would have been IMMENSELY handy for that press! Thank you again. Connor
  18. My father-in-law is shipping me his SDB as he no longer shoots IPSC events. This is my first introduction to a Dillon press and I'm trying to learn as much about them as possible. My question is simple... Can those who own a SQB press tell me how to get the MOST out of this press with regards to add-ons or and accessories that will maximize performance? I will be purchasing an RL650 soon and would like to get as much performance out of the SDB as well. I will be reloading two calibers, 45 ACP and 9mm (mostly). Each press will be set of for each caliber. Since I will be reloading 9mm most often and the SDB is already set up for 45 ACP, the caliber choice for each machine will be obvious. Can a case feeder be added to a SDB?... Any advise or suggestions is greatly appreciated. Connor
