  1. So my XDM 9 5.25" is coming up on 5,000 rounds. Since typically 5k is when most companies, that publish a spring replacement schedule, suggest replacing the recoil spring I figured I would do the same with my XDM.

Since Springfield doesn't offer a factory spring, what is the best spring that matches factory weight?

  2. Now I am going to get myself into trouble. Production should be just that, the way the gun came from the factory. Not talking about tuning, carving grips or even changing sights but to change the barrel is changing the heart of the gun. Much like a Transvestite it's a misrepresentation of equipment. :)

There aren't too many production guns that can shoot well at 50 yards.

Anyways I think the production rules are fine, you can be fairly competitive with a $500 gun, and really competitive (assuming you do you part) for around $1,000. Also you can try the sport out with a USPSA Production, or IDPA SSP though obviously if you want to be serious you need a purpose built gun.

  3. I would agree about calling up the NRA, when I talked to Tom about the Grip Force for the Glock, he basically said that they allow fitting the gun to your hand (not saying the Grip Force in Production legal as I haven't gotten around to email him, I have to make time for that). Now I am not sure how far that goes, but it seems like the NRA takes a more liberal interpetiation of the grip modification rules than say the USPSA, or IDPA.

  4. What is the best distance to zero for the normal Action Pistol events?

I used a 50 yard zero for the matches this year, and but I think that had something to do with my rounds going high on the plates.

I've thought about using a 25 yard zero for every match but the practical, but I am not sure if that would work out. At the regional, and localish matches I don't think that would work out as they aren't multiday events.

Any tips from the more experienced shooters?

I'll be shooting a 115gr 9mm being pushed out at around 1,100-1,150 fps (depending on which gun goes to the cup).

  5. Good to hear!!

It's also right before the Steel Challenge so if you're shooting that come in a day early and warm your barrel up!

Tempting very tempting, but alas I don't think I will have enough PTO to be there the entire week (I'm currently -22 hours in the hole from Bianchi). Next year I will probably do that, hopefully it all lines up again to save on airfare and ammo shipping (as I will have to be in Tampa for a follow up again that time next year).

Question about costumes, it says you must shoot in your costume to be considered. I was thinking about having a peg leg (either actual wood or something stronger painted to look like wood) made, but that isn't safe to shoot on (stability issues need to use a real foot for shooting). Would that be considered for the costume contest? Or should I just wrap my normal leg with a wood type cover?

  6. At Pioneer Gun Club (outside of Kansas City) they use timers attached to radio remotes to control the plate rack, and the turning targets. From what I understood it was fairly new, but it worked pretty well out to 25 yards on everything except the barricade.

Several of their crew posts here (at least in the Bianchi/NRA Action Pistol section), maybe they can chime in.

  7. I'll also add that there is something MUCH harder than shooting at plates with that dark background. That's shooting them in the snow :surprise:

    Talk about having to fucus!

What is the snow thing you speak of? ;)

    Frozen hurricanes.

It must be quite cold to get rum to freeze. :eatdrink:

  8. Rob was shooting the 5.25 XDm, I think BJ was shooting a glock, Enoch an M&P.

Plates got a lot of people this year.

    BJ was running a 686.

Enoch was running a XDM 5.25.

Rob had an interesting new sight on his XDM.

Bruce Gray was indeed running a Sig X5.

And the plates will be haunting my nightmares.

  9. Ya bunch of pussies.

Try flying 24hours then driving 3hours just to get to the house you are staying at. Then drive 8 hours to Michigan and 8 hours back for the Cup.

Kevin will think that 12hours driving is just a normal day at work.

    Uphills both ways? Barefooted? :roflol:

Anyways hope to cya all there. I'll be the guy with the camo leg.

  10. I have nothing to do with these guys, but I found them, and figured maybe some other shooters in the Republic might want to know about them. I am planning to make it down there for a match or two if I can.

  11. Does Tommy have a website? I have been looking at a smaller framed 2011.

Do they do full STI work, or do I need to buy one that is other wise made up the way I want and send the grip to either one of them?

I have been looking at a Bedell Spitfire because they seem to be the only one I could find with some sort of grip work done.
