  1. For those who are using the American Eagle 55gr what velocities are you getting at the muzzle?

It is advertised at 3240 (24" test barrel) fps but so was the Freedom Munitions which chronoed for me at 2797 with a Nordic Components 18" Wylde barrel and a Seekins ATC muzzle break.

I had a chance to confirm my zero at 100 yards the other day but my chrono was too hot to see the screen.

    Thanks for the help.

I was getting ~3000 fps from AE in my 16" JP. XM in the same barrel was low 3100s.

XM out of my Nordic 18 was around 3300 fps.

  2. Sorry I should have been more clear -- I had already removed the grip and was trying to remove the safety.

Bagdrag, thanks! That did the trick. I had actually tried pushing down on the hammer before, but in my late night haze I forgot that I had removed all the pins already, so I was just pushing the whole thing down. I reinstalled the trigger pin, pushed down on the hammer, and the safety came right out. Thanks again!

  3. Does anyone have tips on removing an AR Gold trigger?

Installing it involved jiggling the trigger while inserting the safety in order to clear the trigger tail.

Removing it seems an exercise in frustration... Trying to jiggle the trigger assembly while getting the safety turned to just the right magical position to pull it out...?

Is there a specific position to turn the safety where it's easier to get out? Tips on how best to jiggle the trigger to get it to clear?

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  4. Fantastic video review!

Don't own this scope but spent a little time behind it, a couple of my thoughts:

    1) I would characterize the illumination as if you had a TAC-30 that goes one click higher. It does not compare to the Meopta's illumination. At high noon, it was reddish but not bright. In the same conditions, my TAC-30 would look blackish with a red tint to it.

    2) Glass was definitely nice.

    3) As mentioned in the review, the eye box was super sensitive to eye placement.

  5. Saw a Vortex 1-6 today at our Carbine match. Damn.... Must get one!

Great glass and a greater field of view than my Meopta - and that is saying something! Like the reticle more than the Swarovski too.

thanks for the report. How did the brightness of the Vortex's center dot compare to your Meopta?

  6. Bushnell Elite 1-6.5 FFP, BRT reticle, illuminated, typical Bushnell Elite glass (which means it's good!) Looks like retail is under $1,400. I'm not crazy about optics, but this one has me very interested.

How bright was the Bushnell illumination? They mention FFP and RFP versions, were you able to look at both? I'm wondering if there is a difference in brightness between the two.

Also, how did the reticle look?

    thanks

  7. The vx-6 i like better than the mk-6, as well as the reticle they chose, but the scope to see is the bushnell 1.5-6x or 1-8x the bdc reticle they use is really the best choice for our purposes. the Vortex 1-6x is also excellent with a good simple reticle with BDC lines. Both the bushy and Vortex are priced better than the leupy mk6, and about the same as the vx-6.

I see a scope in my future!!!

    trapr

Which reticle did you guys see in the Leupold VX-6 model? At SHOT, I only saw plain cross hair type reticles in the VX-6 and nothing with hold over references. Did I miss something?

This video has the Leupold product manager describing the reticles available in the new 1-6x VX-6 and he only mentions duplex and circle dot reticles:

    thanks!

The Leupold Mk 6 model on the other hand has the two CMR reticles to choose from.

  8. If you get a 16" mid gas:

Mid tube will expose the gas block (9")

Rifle tube will cover the gas block and some more (12")

Extra long will extend basically just about to where the muzzle brake starts (15")

I run a JP 16" mid with light BCG and buffer. It shoots pretty flat and soft, but an 18" rifle gas is noticeably flatter and softer.

  9. Nice job, that looks really great! You'll love it, did you get the lmos too?

Double check your ear pro though! At this past weekend's match we had to shoot prone from a confined structure and I think I made myself deaf. lol Should have doubled up for that stage!!

  10. I fell the same about a good bright reticle. Spent time behind aimpoints and would like to shoot something with a similar view if possible so I do not have to readapt from gun to gun. The Ideal scope would look like an aimpoint up for up-close, but have magnification for distant targets all in one optic.

What you've described is the Swaro Z6i or S&B Short Dot. The entire reticle of the Meopta is illuminated. I'm sure you'll like it though.

  11. If you have the spare $$, go for it! The z6i is arguably the best 3gun optic on the market. Not only does it have a fantastic reticle with super bright dot, it has great glass and FOV, and something the Meopta can't match - 6x on the top end. I briefly had a z6i but had to sell it due to some cash flow issues, and it is simply a great optic.

If you have good eyesight/don't feel the need for 6x, the Meopta is a great optic. I would take it over the other scopes you mentioned because a very bright reticle is very important to me. YMMV

  12. Curious where you are getting a Noveske 16" intermediate gas? I've only seen MSTN offering that configuration. Thanks

Not that I want to take business away from Wes.....

But, Noveske offers the 16" RECON barrel, mid-length gas tube on his web site.

Thanks, but what we were talking about is a configuration with a 16" barrel and the Noveske intermediate length gas system, which is between middy and rifle length (about 1.5" shorter than rifle).

  13. That's where I'm getting the barrel from...MSTN.

Curious where you are getting a Noveske 16" intermediate gas? I've only seen MSTN offering that configuration. Thanks

    Got it, thanks.

Back to your original question, I am running a Young super light in my JP upper (got a good deal on the BCG). It's a 16" middy with adj gas block. I tuned the block along with a rifle length buffer that I lightened myself. As Jesse notes, the Young is a little heavier than the JP, and I ended up making my buffer also slightly heavier than the JP low mass buffer. As a system (along with a Titan brake), it shoots soft & flat for a 16" middy. A similar 17" or 18" rifle gassed system shoots softer though. Gotta run what I have, but when I finally shoot it out I'll probably go for a 18" rifle length gas with the JP LMOS system. I've shot enough of my buddies rigs with these systems that I know I want one!

  14. IIRC Melhorn used to mount the Safariland 2 shell holders directly onto the foreend. Not sure what method he used to secure it.

I have a velcro/elastic one (3gungear I believe) and it works well but it slides forward under recoil. Not a huge deal, I basically reposition it after each match day. Even the female velcro piece stuck on the foreend has slid forward (leaving adhesive residue behind it), so one of these days I'll rip it off and put on a new piece. My estimate is about 3000+ rounds since I installed it. The forward wrap around strap (male velcro) has melted where it contacts the barrel but that doesn't really affect anything.
