Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Please excuse the newbie question, but I have three 38 Super guns that were purchased about 2 years ago with the intent of shooting in the IDPA and IPSC disciplines. Obviously I am aware that a mandatory 40 caliber rule has been imposed recently at least in some divisions of IPSC for making Major. Are my guns basically obsolete for competition? Should I simply be shooting 9mm or else something bigger than 40 cal? (By the way, does the energy produced by 357 Sig and 9X23 not at least count for being considered for major?) Thanks in advance. Jon in Georgia
  2. Isn't the 550 essentially a turret press that can be bought failry inexpensively, then upgraded to a progressive press, the 550B? If you want to start out with little to minimal investment, this would seem to be a great way to avoid buying another press on down the road. Add to it as you see fit, and eventually upgrade to the progressive.
  3. Hi, fellas, I just dropped over $1K on a 550B plus several caliber conversions, and Brian is a gentleman to work with directly. What advice have you got for the newbie? I shoot mostly pistol and prefer 45ACP, 10mm, and revolvers such as 357/44/45. I know it would be best to master one cartridge before moving on, and I've got lots of brass. For instance, if I were to start with 45ACP, how much leading and lead exposure do you get with Oregon Trail 45ACP SWC cast bullets? The cost of components is definitely a factor. Would you opt for Ranier coated bullets instead? Also, are any of you stocking up on bullets or brass or powder/primers before September, or do you not expect a big jump in unloaded ammo prices? Thanks for the replies.
