  1. Scott,

    At my match we had

    2 shotgun only

    2 rifle only

    2 all three guns

    1 pistol shotgun

    2 pistol rifle

Two things you need to make your match a success, good stages and great RO's. At our match we only use RO's that will stand up to anyone, won't be bullied, and actually understand the course of fire. You can't use normal USPSA type RO procedures for a tactical three gun, we have stages where the shooter shoots his long gun dry and transitions to the pistol, he is required to carry the empty rifle to the end of the stage with him.. (see above comment about competent RO's)

    Scoring

North Carolina Tactical Three Gun type scoring is as follows.

We use the USPSA Score program, however we give each stage equal score, all stages 450 points. The reason for the 450 is we have had shooters zero several stages if we use the actual points that are on the stage.

We score the shooters targets and add .5 seconds for each point dropped...

We input the same 450 for each shooter but put his adjusted time to give us stage points as well as percentages and calculate overall points.

Is this a perfect score system NO ... it has worked very well but the score keeper/computer chick has to be very switched on...

The ideal scoring system would be to develop a Excell spread sheet of some sort that would make this easier.

Remember though it has to be simple enough to be done by hand if the computer crashes... Just kidding, I think those days are gone.

Let me know if you need more info

and good luck with the match..... KyleL

  2. You may need to remove more metal on the easy loader to tune it up. You should be able to push the easyloader up at least 1/4 inch before the bolt is released. If you look on the easy loader there is a long arm that sticks up against a springloaded bolt release. The easiest way to hone this is to remove the large pin that holds the shell carrier to the trigger group. Once you remove this big hollow pin watch out because a couple of small parts will soon be flying, it is just a plunger and a spring that are easily put back together. Now you will be able to look up inside the easyloader and shell carrier to stone the area that makes contact. If this isn't clear email me, kind of hard to type what needs to be worked.... KyleL

PS also make sure the action is well lubed

  3. Kelly,

If I go back to Camp Perry trust me I won't be using a Viking sling. I will use a loop sling. Too different types of competition.

I have found that the loop around the bicep slings work great until I transition to my sidearm then the rifle seems to flop around a bit.. especially on reloads..LOL

    KyleL

  4. Fellas,

The Viking Tactics sling was actually developed so that you could quickly adjust your sling to the right length. If you were rappelling or climbing a ladder or wall you could sling the weapon across your back, tighten it down, do the deed, then drop the sling to full extension again and put it back across the front of your body. You are also able to cinch it down across the front of your body for Fast Rope type scenarios. The sling also is intended for use while transitioning from a rifle to a sidearm without having the weapon take out your knee caps.

Now for actually shooting, while in the prone position you can still adjust the sling tight enough to give you the same support as a ching sling, however when you are done shooting you can stand up or move and the rifle is still ready to shoot from the standing, kneeling or sitting. I carry mine pretty tight all the time so when I go prone I don't have to tighten it. If you leave it tight it seems to help a bit while shooting offhand also. Bennie Cooley and Mike Voigt are using the Viking sling as well as Jerry Miculek.

The only down fall that I have heard from folks is that it is too simple, well I'm a GI and I have been tangled up a few too many times in three point systems, so that is where this originated.

In our match we make it mandatory that you have a sling since we require you to transition and carry the rifle throughout the stage. USPSA doesn't really do much of this so you don't see alot of slings at those matches.

Hope I answered a couple of the questions.

    Thanks KyleL

  5. Kelly,

Bruce is right, the button has been extended. It just looks like it was stretched. When I received the prototype it took a little to get used to. After a day I was just as fast with the new button compared to the EZ Loader. You also won't have all the problems with the pins breaking.

I hope to have a copy of the promo video on my web site in the next few weeks.

Intel dude, 3 gun gear makes great stuff... The new side saddle for the Remington is even designed better than his other sidesaddles. Mark put a really neat tab at the front that slides under the forend so it won't come off. Glad to see the small business gettin some as well.

As far as the price: Retail for the Remington is less than Winchester, Browning Gold, or Benneli practical.

And how many of you cheap skates(myself included) have paid retail lately...LOL

    God Bless the USA!!!!!!!!

  6. I have had several cut down by a outfit in ARK

    Ballistic Specialties

    Batesville, Arkansas

    1-800-276-2550

These fellas did a great job. I wrote a list of directions for the fellas. ie Rem chokes, put the front sight back on, length.

It costs 60.00 plus shipping both ways, very reasonable.

Once you cut the ports you may need to open the ports a little, go slow on that process...

If you have a light contour barrel you may not be able to use Remchokes, you might have to go with a slimmer version...

    Good Luck KyleL

  7. Icarr,

    The web site is http://www.vikingtactics.com

I never use the rifle bezel surefire and have never been able to atribute a burnt bulb to the recoil. I have always replaced my bulbs on a regular basis. Once a year so they won't leave me hangin.

You are right about that Surefire being cool with the running lights and all. I like those fancy license plate lights that flash around when you hit your brakes too, but I would never put them on my truck... LOL

    Kurt,

You know I always wondered why ol Brown gave me a bunch of crap for being high tyro... I did what every good American should do with Soviet made stuff.. Gave it away....

I believe another reason guys put the Pistol grip on is because after you add a few things to the forend there isn't any room left for your paw. That is also why I like the long free float tube on the short 14.5-16 inch barrel.

SGDM.... There is a very good reason you beat me in the house. I helped set up the stage and then ran right by two targets...Me Not stupid, me just no think fast...

    God Bless The USA!!!!!!!!

  8. Icarr,

I just talked with Jeff and I hope to have the new light mounts on our web site by Feb. There is a picture of one on my Web site mounted on his tube, but the new one will work on any picatinny rail.

If you use a short barrel and you can't get your hand out far enough just put on the long tube. I like the JP (doesn't heat up) or the Jeff Cramblit (Picatinny to move around only where you need it.

Kelly, with a forward pistol grip withthe light mounted directly above it you can actually use it as a mono pod. No one sells this set up, we made them ourselves.. Before Surefire thought of it.

On the surefire note, great lights but you don't have to put the rifle light on the rifle. A regular 6P without the shock absorber on the inside holds up fine on the light recoil M4.  This will also save you, Oh  500 dollars, Just happens to be the same amount as that pistol you have been wanting.

    God Bless The USA!!!!!!!!!!!!

    KyleL

  9. Kelly,

The only reason I like a forward pistol grip is it makes it easier to control my light. You were right I don't use one for 3 gun.

With Jeff Cramblits new light mount my pistol grip may go away completely.

The pistol grip also gets in the way when shooting over a car hood and in some other weird positions.

As far as weapons retention, alot of cops and GIs grip the front of their lower receiver or move their pistol grip way back... That is also a no go, not just for shooting multiple tgts but if you have a 300 lb gorilla with bad breath holding onto your barrel. He will be alot easier to remove if your hand is farther out.

Now on to bumping elbows. Shoot like you are at Camp Perry and it will happen, drop your elbow like a Tactical/Practical shooter and it won't be an issue. You may need to raise an elbow every now and then to stop a blow or administer one to the afore mentioned Gorilla.

Hope everyone has a Happy New Year filled with the sound of gunfire.....

    ADIOS KyleL

  10. FatBoy,

No I wasn't mad... I told you it was ok to use that shotgun in our match.. And that still stands, grab the Rusky big bore and come on down... LOL   Hope you and the fellas at Jerys are doing ok..... Slap Dave for me ADIOS Kyle

  11. tim3gun,

In the past Remington has been untouchable for sponsorship of 3 gun matches. Last year they were a major sponsor at the NC tactical 3 gun match. A couple of new folks have started working at higher levels in the Remington offices. You can thank them for the Practical Shotgun, as well as pushing for sponsorship of Tactical three gun competitions.

Is HK a large SMM 3 gun Sponsor?

NC 3 gun didn't have any luck with them but had great luck with  Springfield, Glock, Beretta, JP, DSA, Remington.

Sorry your not a Remington fan, I am kind of a girly man so I can't take the beating a Benelli dishes out.

    I drive chevy's too. LOL

    God Bless America

    KyleL

  12. Kelly,

No rear sight, it seems that there were so many options that Remington decided to not go down that road. I would like to see a small flip up rear for slugs but so far I haven't heard of one that can take a beating.. Let me know if you have any ideas.  Hope all is well out there in the Desert..

  13. Kurt

Get the rope and lets head to the Hangin tree... LOL

I love to shoot but find it difficult to have a good time when Range Lawyers are present.

I recently moved to the Pacific Northwest, at the first local match I went to the Range Lawyer told me I couldn't say " The shooter is ready, Stand by" I said oh ok I am new to this stuff. He told me if a shooter wanted to he could get a reshoot if he screwed up because of the preceding RO commands. COME ON.. How do you explain to a new shooter, ok if you screw up just tell them it was someone elses fault and you get  a reshoot.

Next Pacific Northwest match. Shooter shoots steel with 9mm, it doesn't go down even though he is hitting in the center of the so called sweet spot. His buddy starts yelling "get a reshoot, get a reshoot" the RO who happened to be a friend of mine was already controlling the situation. I was the score keeper, and the two shooters who were ranting and raving hadn't help a lick on the reset and scoring of the stage... And yes they were both open shooters... I hate to say it, but the poor lads were beaten that day by a plowboy from South Dakota shooting a Glock in 9mm.

When I run our match I look for competend RO's who understand the intent as well as the safety concerns for their particular stage. And they will stand up to anyone at the match and tell them NO..... They are not scared in the least bit by Bennie, Mikey V, or Jimmy Clark,  however they are pretty scared of Kelly Neal, just because the law is looking for him....   At USPSA matches RO's are normally scared of the Super Squad or just like to let them get over...

Keep the rules in USPSA however you want but don't stiffle the Match Directors that want to run a successful shooting competition under their own rules.

Lastely, don't be offended by this if it doesn't apply to you....  If this really pisses you off, well you might be that guy.....

    God Bless America!!!!!!

  14. Colt1991,

Remington is building the entire shotgun. Some internals have been redesigned, they are making the mag extension tube also which doesn't have a seam on the inside like others. The recoil pad is made by Simms Lab. They are the guys who make Limbsaver stuff for archery hunters. The front sight is aftermarket HIVIZ with extra tubes. And the Bolt handle is from Choate. This shotgun will cost less than the Winchester or Benelli and should be a pretty hot item in the next year.

  15. bulm5

The 1100 Competition Master has a 22" Light contour vent rib barrel.

High Vis fiber optic front sight.

    8 round tube

    Gray synthetic stocks

    R-3 recoil pad

    Extended carrier release

    Large bolt handle

also comes with nylon side saddle from 3 gun gear.

Should be available in Feb after the Shot Show.

    Hope this helps,   ADIOS KyleL

  16. Squabblers,

Below is a link to the rules for our match.

    http://www.vikingtactics.com/3Gun/5th/MatchRules.htm

These rules are simple and have worked relatively well. Any problems with unauthorized gear has been picked up on by fellow shooters or RO's.

And of course anything that needs to be added can be added by the Match Director. Ultimately shooters need to understand the spirit of the game... Yes Game.

One addition to these rules. Pistol may only be retained by holsters organic retention devices. (no Duct tape or Bungees. No Bubble Gum either)

You will also note that weapons are carried muzzle down when moving about the range.. Much safer than muzzle up.

I wouldn't have added this but I would like to see us reach a Page 8... LOL

    KyleL

  17. Definately lots of lube onthe tube. I normally clean the tube, then lube it heavily with Rem Spray lube or Fastex. I have been able to shot 1000 rounds before cleaning the gas system again. This is as per Remington, Bennie Cooley and Mikey Voigt.  KyleL
