Eric,
Patrick is right on the money, it is easy enough to check the parts before a match. However, I have only seen a couple of bolts break, two of those were in Prototype AR's that were putting too much pressure on the bolt lugs.
I reccomend you carry a few gas rings, extractor, extractor spring, spring bumper.
If you do buy AR spare parts, try to avoid the lowest bidder, get some quality back up parts.

Patrick,
You need to come shoot our match so you will really understand our system. This ain't my first rodeo.
I read your comments but it just does not seem to apply to our scoring. As I stated all of our stages are worth the same score. For example our last match each stage was worth 450.00 points.
So I will use your comments and add it up and see how it turns out.
Pistol stage.
first 16.00seconds HF 28.125 100% 450.00 POINTS
second 18.00 seconds HF 25.00 88% 396.00 Points
third 20.00seconds HF 22.5 80% 360.00 Points
Rifle Satge
First 160.00 seconds HF 2.8125 100% 450.00 Points
Second 180.00seconds HF 2.5 88% 396.00 Points
Third 200.00 seconds HF 2.25 80% 360 Points
It would appear to me that the great rifle shooter better beat the great pistol shooter by quite a margin. If this system doesn't allow the shooter to win because he can't shoot a rifle. Guess it is time to practice.
Hope this all makes sense.
We have founding principles for our match as well.
1st Make shooters do things they may do in real life.(shoot weak hand from a car)
2nd Challenging courses of fire
3rd Have a match director that will say NO to rule breakers.
4th Great Prize table
5th Scoring system that is quick, easy, makes sense(to some of us anyway)
6th Not be affiliated with any shooting organization that will make me follow their rules.
Am I hard headed? You bet I am, when I run my match it isn't USPSA or IDPA whose reputation is on the line. It is MY reputation as well as Melynda's. If you find someone that is disgusted with our match please have them give me feedback as to their issues. Other than it is too physical, which we will not change, I have not heard too many comments. We read the critiques from the match, and we have changed a few things. We have learned alot.
Hope I clarified our system. Is it perfect? No..... Close enough for Government work though.
God Bless the USA!!!!!!

SGDM,
Speaking of "Trample the Weak, Hurdle the Dead" we have those shirts available now.
At least that is what Melynda tells me.....
See you at the Ranch

I tell you what, you are some smart fellas. We have had great success with our scoring system. It is simply a Excel spreadsheet that adds time for points dropped, time for No Shoots, time for misses, time for procedurals. All stages are worth the same amount of points, just make sure stages are worth enough points or alot of people will have zeros. 100 points will not work. Normally has to be 300-450 points per stage.
Of course we do use the Modified Lewis scoring system, it is a version I make up as I go. So far it has worked well, it also has helped to get more sponsors involved. They love it. It can be a crap shoot if you are not in the top 10, but we have a lot of happy competitors. Last year we gave out 26 guns.
Just my two Dinar,
Luckily no matter what you fellas come up with I don't have to follow..heheh
Just kidding.

Thanks Guys and Gals.
As far as the packages go, please send them to all the soldiers currently deployed. Melynda takes good care of me while I am away. I believe you can send them to the Any Soldier Address. Ask your local Post Office, they should be able to get you on the right track.
There are alot of young GI's out there with no family to square them away.
Send old Hunting and Gun mags, speaking from experience. They go over great! Just don't send anything with Kerry on the cover, it will get used for other things. LOL
If you get a chance drop a line to the fellas too, we apreciate hearing from the people who are on our side. The media takes care of the negatives so positive feedback is refreshing.
Thanks Again

Well Ladies and Gents, it has been a long time coming.
Due to the Infestation in this great world of Muslim Extremists there will be no match this year. I hope to be able to run the match next year, Good Lord willing.
Things are entirely too busy this year, and frankly my mind and energy need to stay focused on the task at hand.
If you have time Send a care package to a deployed Soldier !
Keep checking our site for info for next year.

Kurt,
I tried to fill some lithium batteries with Mercury so as to reduce recoil with my M3. I just finished putting out the fire, I do believe I upped the Lumens a bit though.

SKB makes cool double gun cases. Not as wide as a Pelican, or starlight. They have a fowm divider in between the two stacked guns. The divider has a sheet of plastic in it to further protect sharp objects from slicing up other geat.
The handles are well protected, as well as the locks. Don't remember what I paid but it works great.
check it out

It is the double rifle case.

I think co witness is a good idea. I zero the open sights but only use them if the red dot goes south.
Just a back up. Trying to survive til breakfast.... (or something like that Kurt)
Kelly and Kurt.. Nice seeing you fellas at SHOT.

635,
Definately the Bladetech. They sell a holster for the STI that allows you to switch from Paddle, Drop offset, High ride, all with one holster. Their QC is also much tighter than the smaller Bladetech copies. If you need more info drop me a line.

I think you are right on. One other thing though is you don't need the spotlight to see in the IR spectrum. NVG will give you this ability, however if you decide you want to see better, then adding a light source (IR) will make it easier to see as well as anyone with a Cabelas catalog to see you.
I am sure there is some expert out there with a fancy explanation.

Rhino,
You got me on that question.. All I know is Thermal shows a heat source, IR NVG Night Vision Goggles only allow you to see heat if it is extremely hot.
For example, with NVG if you look at a barrel on a MG all you see is barrel. Now if you look at the barrel after it has heated up it appears as though you can see the bullets going down the tube. How it works who knows...
I can't figure out how to make the VCR quit blinking 1200, and you guys want explanations.
Maybe Kelly can tell us, I am sure he doesn't know but as a DA he should be able to come up with a good story.
God Bless America!!

I'm not wanting to start a debate here, since I know exactly squat about sniper scopes, but I have seen a video of an IR system that *does* see through walls. No clue if it fits on a rifle or not...
EricW,
Actually there is no debate. IR simply cannot see through walls, unless of course you are talking about a tent wall. Now if you are talking sheetrock or concrete, not possible.
Thermal you might be able to see through the tent wall too, but not the concrete or sheetrock.
If you have info on a system that will do what you say, please let us know. I know a few guys I would like to pass that info along to.
Benneli2
All is well, send me an email. I don't have access to my address book on the laptop.
Sprinkler.... on my head...... sounds like fun.. did you say SLUGS... ok not fun.
I shudder at the thought of 35 slugs. Actually I am going to go lay in the corner and suck my thumb.

PVS-10 is indeed a IR night vision Scope. It is not thermal. Two completely different ways of seeing day?night.
When a thermal is used you can't see through walls, or even through windows. Smoke and fog yes.. Walls No. Only the movie makers have that ability.

FP-10, it works well. Miltec turns to gum when the rifle is heated up.
