  1. Hi there. Has anybody out there shoots 38 super comp with a regular STI or SV extractor. How about consistency in extracting. Thanks for the hints.
  2. You are going to have to try different powders to see which one works better for your gun. I learned a lot using this method and looking at the difference between powders and the way they gun cycle. For my guns (hybrid shorties guns) the VV N350, N105, and other VV were very snapy for my guns. but when I tried the IMR S7625 the gun cycled very nice. Meaning the dot did not moved. Remember with comp guns you need more powder. I use 8.2 grain with a 124 grain MG bullet which gives me a PF 172 fps. The lower you go on power factor the jumpy the dot gets. By the way this is my opinion based on my guns. There is a reloading chart if you want to call it like that put together by Jeff Mass. You can downloaded from the Internet. It will gives you an Idead of what it is been used by other shooters. Welcome to the open division and good luck to you Razorramon.

  4. Make sure you get extra replacement fiber inserts. I do not know what PF you shoot and how much you shoot but because of my own experiences they tend to brake( fiber insert). Do not worry they are easy to change. Good luck. RazorRamon
  5. what is the difference (velocity, pressure, accuracy and recoil) between a heavy crimp (indentation on the bullet) to a light crimp ( not marks on the bullet) Any comments anybody out there. Thanks RazorRamon
  6. Thank you to all of you out there for the interesting information. I think it was a very interesting point from all of you. I use IMR 7625 for my 38 super (open). The reason I asked this question is because a tried different powders including Vitha V. But my gun works better (less recoil and faster dot acquisition) with the IMR. The others were very violent even though they were slower burning powder. I will look more into it regarding data. By the way, I shoot a Hybrid STI gun shorty (Keal gun by Errol Lawson). I am just concern with the pressure. Thanks to all of you.
  7. Has any body out there has checked the relationship between the pressure that is apply to reach a major PF. To put it in another way. Is the pressure constant to reach let say a PF of 165 regardless the powder use to reach that PF?.
  8. It does feed better, and you do tend to get an extra round. That's why I've run it for many many years Actually, its "rimless" compared to a traditional "rimmed" case (think .357 Mag, for instance). When you run your finger down the case, you don't feel a rim sticking out the side... .38 Super is a "semi-rimmed" case, with a case head size that's sort of in between how much a rimmed case's rim sticks out, and a rimless case. That semi-rim is what can cause issues - though plenty of folks run .38 Super with no problems. The issue that Rich was pointing out is one of the various "out of tolerance" issues that I was getting at - there are more than can happen, like extractor tunnels that are too narrow or are not straight/square to the rest of the slide, etc. Being able to measure those things is sometimes beyond what we can do at home, so a trip to a solid smith is probably not a bad thing. BTW - Rusty Kidd (mentioned by Rich) invented the AFTEC extractor, so... He probably knows what to do... Derek @ AFTEC/Millenium Custom might be a good stop for this sort of problem, too... Thanks XRE. I just sent the slide to my gunsmith. His name is Errol Lawson (Keal Gun). He was the one who built the gun in 38 Super. He has built all my open guns. I should've sent it to him in the first place but I wanted to save a few bucks. I live in NJ and he lives in FL. Like the saying "Cheap always cost more in the long run". Thanks a lot for the inputs to everybody out there. Thanks again. RazorRamon.
  9. That is what I am going to do. I think you hit the nail on the head. Thank you very much. Ramon.
  10. The reason the super comp has a longer hook is because the super comp shells has a small rim. 38 super has a bigger rim. That is why they call super comp rimless. Eventhough they hava a rim that is very small. Thanks for the suggetion.
  11. I am using super comp brass. Lapua brass. The reason is because it is supposed to feed better than the regular 38 super. plus you get an extra round in the mag. If I try to use a regular super extractor I have to work on it to make it work with super comp. I will keep working on it untill I get it right. Thanks anyway for the answers.
  12. I just change my aftec extractor from 38 super to 38 super comp. I shot it a few times but I am having problems with it. Every three of four shots it fails to chamber the round. I did not have problems with the 38 super aftec extractor. I took the tension from the springs, I even took the front spring and still did it. Any comments out there. Thanks for any input.
  13. Thank you Kingman. I will keep using the 9Lb. Ramon.
  14. Thanks Bart. I went to practice yesterday, I tried a 10Lb. and a11lb. I went back to my 9 lb. It worked much better with the 9lb. Thanks again. I appreciate your input. good luck to you. Ramon
  15. I was reading BEnos book last night and I read on page 190 titled Springs that he uses 14 pound spring with his open gun. I have an open gun (Shorty with schuman hybrid barrel and a comp) 38 super caliber. I have been using a 9 pound spring. My power factor is 170 +/-. I used to have a heavier spring but I had more recoil. so I started using the 9Lbs. I am just concern with the pounding the gun is getting with a lighter spring. Any suggestions or explanation in using a lighter spring vs a heavier spring or viceversa. Meaning which one is the most appropiate one. Thanks for the answer(s) Razorramon.
