yes, armscor is still in business. At least they were 3 months ago. I would recommend against Armscor. Starline is only a few bucks more expensive per case. Angus has good prices on them as well.

Why are they working on aluminum grip frames? Is there something wrong with the plastic ones?
Maybe it is a durability issue. I am sure that over time, the aluminum will hold up a lot better. My plastic one is looks pretty worn, and I have only had it for about a year.

Welcome, I think you will have a lot of fun in 3-gun. I don't think you should buy anything too fancy. I started with a plain jane Bushmaster with a 16 inch barrel, and open sights. I would not worry too much about the chambering, because most manufacturers will make an AR that can handle both 223 and 556. I believe a 1:9 twist is pretty common.
As for what to get. Buds gun shop offers some really good ARs. You can check them out at:

But, you will still be competitive with a plane-jane AR of reputable manufacture.

I usually get my supply from Powder Valley. Looks like they are out of 4lb canister, and only have 1lb. The other usual places seem to be out. Grafs, and Natchezss. Eabco appears to have some in stock.

Midway currently has a sale on a couple of long range shooting books by Dave Brennan. I bought Precision shooting: a reloading guide, and precision shooting: at 1000 yards.
I have not had a chance to read them in detail, but they seem to address your questions.

I was at the class this past weekend as well. I have been shooting USPSA for about a year. I really learned a lot. I would highly recommend it.
joe4d--I think there is a procedure to request NROI to offer a class in your region of the country.

The new Macs will run both Windows and OSX. It is 100% compatible. All new macs now use an Intel chip.
I am shopping for a new laptop to use in pharmacy school next year. While i'm curious to try a MacBook, the college states:The College uses PC compatible tools to create video presentations and interactive content. We strongly advise you not to buy a Macintosh. Some content is incompatible with the Mac and with PC emulators for the Mac. We will not be able to assist you if you have problems.
I have already decided that for something i will lug in my backpack 4 days a week for 3 years of classroom work, i want a 14" that is as light as possible - 5 lbs or so. No matter what I will have 2gb of ram and do a clean load of Vista OS.
In the past couple years my wife has bought a dell inspiron 15" loaded [xp] for about 1100 bucks and a bargain-basement Gateway 15" [vista] for $499. Both are nice, not perfect but okay.
What i'm leaning toward is a Sony Vaio 14", the reviews are uniformly good other than "they are overpriced..." and i absolutely love the keyboard - i can type effortlessly on that thing. Mousepad is okay, my big thumbs can manage to left & rightclick pretty well, not as easy as the Inspiron. Looking like $1100.
Another choice is HP - the one that is dirt cheap [$599] after mail-in rebate is the Pavillion DV2617, 1.5ghz and 2.0gb of ram, 160gb hard drive. The keyboard is okay, the mousepad is the best i've tried. So new that there are few reviews; one said the fan is way too loud & battery life is low, both of which would be a major drag.
I can wait. Super deals come & go & come back again. Your thoughts are welcome.

I had them make me a thumbreak carry holster for my 3" N-frame. It took about 3 months, but the quality was excellent.

It seems that Lapua is the gold standard of reloading brass for long range precision shooting. However, Lapua only makes certain calibers.
Surprisingly, they do not make brass for 260, despite its popularity in long range precision shooting. Why don't they make 260? Moreover, I am deciding what caliber for my next long range rifle. At first, the 260 was high on my list, but it seems that the lack of quality brass adds additional case prep time, and it is therefore no longer in consideration. I am aware that Nosler and Norma also make brass for the 260, but they are not always available.
I also find it interesting that they make 7.62x39 brass, rifles for this caliber are not necessarily known for their accuracy. Moreover, the 6.5 Grendel is currently available. I thought this round was relatively new, and the interest is yet to be established. I am surprised they make this over the 260.
In case anyone is interested, because of the brass issue, my caliber choices are 6.5x47 or 6.5x55.

Surgeon Actions ARE awesome. I think this may be my next purchase. However, people have expressed that the lack of a Sako style extractor is the weak point of this action. Can anyone elaborate/comment on this?

No one appears to be listing the overall length. I believe that can be quite significant.

You should return it to Midway and get another scale. I had to return two of these scales to midway in the past year. They both suffered similar problems. Though the price it attractive, it comes with a lot of problems.

I remember someone saying the reason why everyone shoots ARs in 3 gun and in IPSC, is because of the 94 AW ban and the AR was the only reasonably priced alternative. Assuming that were true, if there was no AW ban and all semi-automatic rifles were of similar price, what would we be shooting instead.
Personally, I think the AR would still come out as everyone's favorite for this sport. The main reason is ergonomics and light weight. Although the Sig and H&K offer good rifles, they seem too heavy, and the mag release is a little awkward.
What do you guys think?
