  1. I am using a Ghost,...works fine. A have a Bladetech. That is good too. I tried the CRSpeed,...but unless I cut it,..i did not have a good time with it.

What I really like is the Speedsec....Even locked with the long lever,..it is very fast on the draw.

I tried the CR Speed and didn't like it either even after doing the cut so now use both the Ghost and the Speedsec. Both are very good, fast and secure.

  2. I have an old school 9mm Witness with the small frame. The barrel lugs are pretty worn and peened, while the inside of the slide still looks brand new. Brownell's used to sell 6" oversized Briley barrels, but haven't now for a few years. I can't find anything on Briley's site.

Is there any place where I can get a new barrel fitted to my Witness? I'd prefer not to get another crappy stock barrel.

Barsto used to advertise Witness barrels but only used to manufacture a couple of times a year. Not sure if they still do but worth a try if you can't get one anywhere else.

  3. Make sure the overtravel is not too agressive (too little). If you hold the trigger down and move the hammer, it should feel smooth and not rub. If you can feel the hammer rubbing against the sear, the overtravel is too little.

If the hammer is rubbing, you WILL have ignition problems. I learned the hard way.

    Don't forget to loctite it!!

    Thanks for the advice.

I have tested the set up and all seems fine but haven't shot it yet. Did you loctite it before actually live testing or do you do this after? I didn't want to loctite until I had live fired to be absolutely sure it will not be an issue.

  4. Mystery solved last night when I finally took mine apart. It seems to be a standard M3 grub screw. The length can vary depending if you need it longer or not. I was able to adjust mine with the one that was in there, but it was a bit of a major to loosen it up even with a bit of heat.

However, all sorted now and the trigger is "sweet". I am using Hennings long firing pin and 13 lb hammer spring and the trigger is alot nicer than it was standard from the factory, which I thought wasn't that bad really.

  5. Does anybody know where I can buy those Pearce pads? I have been looking and none ships internationally.

Have a look on www.brownells.com. They stock the Pearce pads and also ship international.

The first one in this page? 092-000-002 Fits Beretta, Adds 1?

    http://www.brownells.com/aspx/ns/store/Pro...RIP%20EXTENSION

Those are the ones, for some reason they are described as +1 but they are actually +2. I bought a few for my small frame mags and can get 19rnds +1 in the gun (9mm).

  6. Hi all

Does anyone know the specs for the over-travel & take-up screws used on the triggers for the Limited etc??

there arent really specs for it because of how the screw sits.. its all feel.

    Leo

    Hi Leo

Thanks for the reply. Apologies, didn't word this very well. It was more what are the screw specs that is are they M3, M4 and 5 mm/8 mm long etc or what!

I have read the various threads here and as you say it does seem to be all feel but wanted to be prepared if I have a problem when I am adjusting this and damage the screws. Mine seem to be very tight so will most probably need to heat to extract.

  7. I just purchased my first Tanfoglio/Witness Elite Limited this past weekend and now I am trying to work up a load. So my question is, can I shoot lead safely in my limited? I know of the Glock stories and them going kaboom so I was wondering if anyone here is using or has used Lead in their Limited?

Henning do you have a replacement non-polygonal barrel in the works ?

I know some ppl use lead in their Glocks and simply clean them every 200 to 300 rounds.

I use lead coated bullets in my Limited and they run very well with no leading issues at all. I did run standard lead with no coating until my supply ran out before then and again no problems and virtually no leading.

When I compare this to some other pistols, the others have tended to lead up quite badly when I used the standard lead projectiles after only 100-200 rounds.

With the Limited I recent ran close to 700 rounds through it without cleaning and the barrel came out clean with just a spray of cleaner, a brass brush and a couple of patches.

  8. Thanks for the input so far. I have been thinking about all the things mentioned so far so thought I would ask before going to the expense of buying one and then not liking it.

I think I will take the advice and try and borrow one to see how it feels.

    Again many thanks.

  9. Hey Guys -

I finally got out last weekend to compete in a local match with the new Tanfog and man what a day! After about 50 rounds of flawless operation the jams started happening. Almost all of the jams were caused by the round not being seated completely in the chamber; req. a smack on the back of the slide to get the round seated. The other jams would occassionally have the slide not fully eject the spent case causing the case to be caught in the slide. This started happening on every other round to the point I had to call it a day after the 2nd stage. Either way, pretty disappointing.

Why did this happen after 50 rounds or so and not right away? Maybe the feedramp became too dirty and the bullets were getting caught?? No idea...

Now, to be clear I do NOT reload. I am shooting factory speer lawman .40 ammo for now OAL 1.11. I only get out to the range once every other month so reloading doesnt seem feasible at this time. I took the gun home assuming it was the new Henning mags, so I replaced the grams spring/follower with the factory stuff and cycled through some rounds manually. Now I realize this isnt a real test of reliablity but the round would not feed correctly almost everytime. Just loading a full mag with the slide locked back then dropping the slide would not fully seat the round most times. What could be causing this? Any thoughts?

    Here is my set-up:

    Gold Team 2007 .40 V12

    Henning 21rd mags w/grams spring/follower

Factory .40 speer ammo (OAL 1.11)

Have you tried barrel dropping your ammo to make sure it is not out of spec for your chamber. This will discount a bad batch of ammo for a start. If they do drop into the chamber freely then it is something else. Also check for any score marks on your brass to see if it is catching anywhere. Secondly the factory ammo may not be hot enough to cycle reliably with the V12 as there are so many ports.

Don't know if that is the answer but hope it helps!

  10. So, I've got Henning's 141 pad for my Gold Team. They work fine, and I'm happy with it.

However, I can't figure out how to gracefully remove it. The spring is solidly in the base, and sliding the base off is almost impossible. I tried using a tool to compress the spring after partially removing the pad. No good.

How do you guys get the pads off? I'm tempted to drill a hole in it, and add a thin plate inside the base pad, similar to the stock bases.

Have a look on Henning's site under the "tech" area. In there is a video "Load bid stick mags". In there he shows how to dis-assemble and re-assemble a mag with the 140 pad.

    Hope this helps.

  11. Does anyone know where I can get my hands on some Tanfoglio 170mm mags in .40S&W? Maybe someone that can build them? I know these are readily avail in .38super but my Gold Team is .40. Thanks!

I am presuming your .40 is on the "large" frame so have you thought about getting a 170mm 38 Super mag and trimming or reworking the feed lips so that it works with a .40?

Not sure if the round count would be more than the 21 rnds you can get with Hennings H-141 mag extension but it might be worth a shot!

  12. Do the new Gold Team models have a longer guide rod which locks into the comp like the old models or do they run the standard length which is flush with the muzzle?

If it is flush is the comp cone Loctited to the barrel or left as is? If Loctited or left has anyone had issues with the comp unscrewing under use??

  13. I use 10mm mags but for friends I have knocked the spacers out of the 40cal mags so they could load longer. The main reason for 10mm mags is just that so you can load to about 1.175.

    Leo

How did you knock the spacers out and did it damage the mags at all?

  14. I enjoy mine for both unloaded gun starts & for "gun on table" starts. It keeps me from hitting the mag release while grabbing the gun off a table or whatever. It also seems more secure sitting on a barrel or anything that is not absolutely rock solid. If the gun is without one & laying on it's side, it just has several contact points with the barrel & if you bump the barrel, the gun can move. Obviously I guess the barrel needs carpet on it to keep that from happening but lots of times that isn't the case.

A slide racker, a safer way to retrieve your gun. How about that for a new saying?

    MLM

Would you be able to upload a pic of your slide with the racker? Interested in where people are putting the racker in relation to the back sights etc. Many thanks in advance.

  15. Just wanted to give a quick update on the blaster. After talking with Henning I ended up turning it into a V6 which dropped the PF down so I am dialing the charge back up. Looks like about 7.6 of 7625 or 8.0 of N350. I'm going to get out to the range on Tuesday to chrono and compare.

The gun is breaking in great. I've only had two malfunctions (failure to feeds) in 2k rounds. Of course one had to be on a classifier... :angry2: The accuracy is, if anything, improving. Just got back from the indoor range and shot a 3/4" 5 shot group at freehand at 20 yards. Of course that was the best grouping, but all that means to me is I need to keep working on my accuracy.

I continue to be impressed with the feel of the gun. I get a really good grip on my draws and the gun just seems to fit me really well.

I'll have to shoot a V8 so I can compare the two. I'm kinda curious.....

I'll post some new photos once I clean it up. Been learning to drive this bad boy so haven't really supercleaned it in a bit.

Interested in how you did the change to a V6, did you just get it drilled or did you go with something like EDM??

  16. Hello,

I recently purchased 2 Tanfoglio pistols. One of them is a Stock Custom (kind of like a Stock II, with aluminum grips, mag well and a full dust cover, but since it was not approved for Production, I guess Tanfoglio came out with the Stock II).

The other is what EAA calls an Elite Limited, but the Tanfoglio site used to call it the Limited Custom. Now there´s a new Limited Custom 2007 model with a polymer coating, and a lighter slide. I assume the original Elite Limited, in hard chrome, is still been made?

I am very satisfied with my 2 pistols. But I have this itch to purchase a 1911, and am considering a ParaOrdnance S1445 Limited (http://www.para-usa.com/new/product_pistol.php?id=11) This is the only 1911 brand available in this country.

Any info / thoughts on how this particular ParaOrd compare to my Tanfoglios as with regard to fit, finish, accuracy and reliability would be greatly appreciated. The STS is not available here.

    -- rrp

I started competing in IPSC Standard class with a Para 16-40 Limited, the 40S&W version of the pistol you mention and was very happy with the pistol in general. The fit and finish was VG but mine was not as tight for a Limited model out of the factory as I would have liked although this didn't seem to affect accuracy. In terms of reliability, I did have some issues with bullet shape but eventually found a good combo that worked well. The biggest issue I had was the grip size which sometimes was an issue when trying to get a good grip position on the draw etc.

I went to the Limited Custom HC after trying one at a comp and loving the feel of the grip etc. The fit and finish on mine is excellent as is the accuracy, even better than my Para, while reliability is the best I have had from any pistol to date, this thing just doesn't seem to jam! Couple this with the fact you can stack your mags to 19rnds with the right set up means you can equal or outload a Para mag.

Personally I am absolutely sold and would not go back to a Para, S_I, SPS etc for anything.

    Hope this helps.

  17. Apparently new IPSC rules will be imposed in Jan/Feb for Australia, 357 sig will be the new major, it will really be a great thing because the Australians will be able to compete internationally fairly.

    I cant wait! :)

vous: Sorry Vous, i wasnt thinking straight, (A few too many beers) there is a max projectile diameter of 38. sup for IPSC, every with the addition of having a large cal licence ya can only shoot max .38 super in IPSC.

No worries Snaps, its hard to know exactly what you can and cannot do when you have dumb laws made by dumb politicians. I'm in NZ and we have been lucky to date to have not been hit by the illogical thinking behind alot of the Aussie laws! At least the introduction of the 357 SIG rule will go some way in helping you Aussies in international comps. That said your comment on too many beers has wetted my taste buds and I am off for a couple myself!! Cheers.

  18. In Australia the max we can shoot in IPSC is 38 super, dew to laws prohibiting .38 + calibres without completing certain matches and getting a special grade licence.

thanks for all your help, as im trying to make major in ipsc. :) more points :)

we dont have any restrcitions on projectile diametre,

sorry im kinda new to these forum and im still working things out hehe.

sinsky: i cant get any of those mags, the max limit is 10 rounds per mag in aust :P but ill be getting one of those X-Long firing pins

    cheers guys :)

Again correct me if I am wrong but my understanding of the current Australian laws was that handguns could only be to a maximum bullet diameter of .38 cal with the only exception being for cowboy action shooting & silouette shooting when you need to get separate permission. So when you say there is no restriction on projectile diameter are you sure?

As I say my understanding is 38 cal or smaller only which is why alot of Aussie IPSC/Action shooters seem to use the 38 Super in their Standard pistols as well as Open.

I haven't heard anything about IPSC allowing 357 Sig as major in Standard but would doubt that will happen as it will surely bring cries for Major 38 Super, 9mm etc to be allowed as well.
