  1. As a LEO, you've certainly got a better perspective than I. However, I continually debate this same question with one of my buddies. At the core of it all, you're still working on key fundamentals that are directly applicable to a real life scenario. I personnally intend to stick with Production just because the equipment and routines that in-grain in my muscle memory won't need to adapt when/if the critical moment arises. Welcome aboard.
  2. Ha! Nice. Well, I guess if I hear the alarm, I'll be sure to put on my ESD smock and heel straps before I gear up. My Quality guy would be Oh So Proud.
  3. Good tip. I'll be on the watch for that. The name brand GunVault isn't subject to that same issue is it?
  4. When I see people shooting wolf through ARs or any bolt rifle, I just say to myself.... smooth-bore. Who says a smooth bore is a bad thing? Consider a high speed, unstable bullet just makes for a wicked wound channel for "practical" applications in the short to medium ranges!
  5. Thanks all for the input. It seems like the old gunvault is the tried and true way to go. Now, did you guys get the deluxe job with the light and doo-hickies? Or just the original flavor. I'm thinking the AC adapter would be worth it all by itself.
  6. Funny. I had a similar issue and was doing some Googling. One guy (I forget where) had a posting and he did some "scientific" testing. His conclusion was that it was actually the steel case causing the grief. Apparently, since the steel doesn't expand the way brass does, carbon fouling is coming back around the case and accumulating in the chamber. He particularly had an issue with swapping in South African brass that then did expand and then jammed. So, since I have around 700 rounds of the wolf junk that's gotta get rid of, I figure I'll mix in a brass round or two in every magazine. Hopefully, it'll drag out enough fouling to keep her running. I'll let you know how it goes.
  7. I guess this question fits here as well as anywhere else. I did some queries and didn't find anything pertinent. I'm looking at getting a new, small safe for the bedroom. You know, something I can keep a pistol and a few valuables out of the reach of prying fingers, but can still get into in a hurry. I guess I'm really looking at either the GunVault or the BioVault. Do you guys have any experience with either? Is it worth the extra $ for the finger print scan? It seems like it would be pretty sweet. I did see one post on another forum saying that they don't work, but plent of others say that it's the best. Any input is much appreciated. Thanks.
  8. I guess you should have posted the question before you bought! That's really good info on the continued grow issue. I think I'll see what the pre-sized plug market has to offer. I see that the Earplug store on Yahoo has some silicone ones that are supposed to have a rating of 32. We'll see how they go. If they work too good, do you think I can have the RO give me a hand signal to start?
  9. Thanks guys. As the guns I'm shooting are pretty much just production, it sounds like a good quality custom set should work. I'll have to find me a local MD and get a set made. Thanks again.
  10. Hey All, I've been watching the forum and run several searches, but I'm still a bit unclear. To preface, I wear prescription glasses and finally got around to sinking the cash to get good prescription shooting glasses. I ended up getting the WylieX Top Jimmie's and they're great for all of my applications. However, I've found that because the arms of the glasses sit a bit wide, my electronic muffs no longer fit. For the time being, I've gone to those Zem contraptions that work pretty well, but not well enough for indoor shooting. My question is: Are there any custom fit plugs that are good enough on their own? It seems like most only do a dbb in the mid 20's. Most of the posts indicate that folks who use plugs are doing so to double up with a set of muffs. I should add that those $750 ESP's are a bit out of my price range. Thanks.
  11. I'm a big fan of practicing while moving around the house. One big tip though: Close the blinds. I don't know what your neighbor situation is, but being spotted doing that in my neighborhood might lead to complications.
