  1. Why the 1 support hand shot at the end?

The rules are a crazy amalgamation of things in this league. Make up shots had to be weak hand.

You might want to check the rules on that one....

Hmmm, found a through the use of props, but nothing else. Anyone?

  2. After 6 years and getting to GM, you know what I learned? Quit diddling and shoot the damn thing. All the tweaking in the world doesn't do squat as to learning how to shoot the platform. If you didn't spend months and years looking for the perfect whatever, you would be well ahead to shoot it how it is from the start.

Case and point, two friends spent a boatload for some shit=hot Lims and they are very sweet. Both of them are doubling or going auto, but I know the Lim boys and ask to shoo one after the match. I put 40 rounds through it and no double. Bottom line is they aren't ready for a 1.5 trigger. with zero over and under. I suggested a bit of spring pressure and a little over and under and I think the guns would be fine. Bottom line is they are bump firing them, but didn't know.

Very light triggers, without knowledge, are not advisable. I'm not even sure that there is ever a reason to have one less than 2, and mine is about 1.5. Prep under pressure at that point is very difficult if not impossible for the average human.

  3. Yes. A reshoot because of RO interference where I the RO ended up being the external influence when I yelled "Stop". (8.6.4)

If I saw wood flying out that close to the shooter right after the draw, I would more likely than not have yelled "Stop". If the bullet hole into the barricade in relation to where I saw the gun at that moment indicates that the bullet would have hit more than 10ft away, I can't declare it an AD. (See 10.4.2 and its sub sections). Since the shooter was just standing there, I can't declare an AD while moving. (10.4.6 + definition of movement). So at that point, it's either use a generic 10.5 for unsafe gun handling, or order a reshoot. Is there a different rule I should apply to declare a DQ?

Consider the corollary if you decide to DQ a shooter who hits the barricade. Do you also DQ the open shooter who forgets about the vertical parallax of their optics and ends up shooting the edges of a port right in front of them and send wood flying?

If a shooter was standing behind a wall or barricade and never even got to a point where they could reasonably claim they were aiming in the general direction of a target, and popped a round off through the wall before they ever got their feet moving (in order to go to where targets could be engaged), you wouldn't consider that UGH?

As for someone clipping a wall due to poor aiming or parallax otfset, they were at least trying to shoot at a target. Executed poorly for sure, but still engaging a target.

Devils advocate here....I seem to remember a very heated thread a few months back, that after much thought, the NROI decided that you can engage a target through a wall, in order NOT to get the FTE penalty....The shot just has to be in the general direction of the target. If there were a target on the other side of the wall, in any general area, then no UGH....the shooter was just engaging a target....

Disclaimer: I still say....TWO MIKEs and ONE FTE....

True and it didn't matter if it was "reasonable" or not.... There's nothing dangerous about holding the gun on target and racking a round in. I did a reload the other day and missed it by one round, the gun was dry it went click and the target was about 5 feet away, I reached up and sling shot the slide with my racker and dropped it right in the A zone. There was nothing unsafe about the act.

  4. I have spend some time searching but not finding so here is the question.

I saw a shooter run his gun empty and the slide did not lock back. He put a mag in it but did not rack the slide. Pulled the trigger, of course nothing happend. With finger still in the trigger guard and close to, if not on, the trigger he racks the slide. The gun was pointed over the targets but in their general direction.

So is the act of racking the slide reloading? Kind of seems like it to me but I am pretty new at this game.

If so is he a DQ?

5.7.3 While rectifying a malfunction that requires the competitor to clearly

move the handgun away from aiming at a target, the competitor’s fingers

must be clearly outside the trigger guard (see Rule 10.5.8).

So, if it's on target no foul, if it's CLEARLY not on target then DQ

  5. Whenever I do something that people grumble about I just smile and say, if you get your ass in early enough you can build the stage to your liking. I don't like it when someone comes in to shoot and hasn't helped then grumbles about this or that, Just shoot the damn stage.

Funny thing is I usually come in and help setup, then don't shoot and do stats, so when I hear that crap, I'm less than sympathetic.

  6. Evil, but legal.

4.2.4.3 By painting or taping the portion of the target deemed to be hidden

by hard cover a single and visibly contrasting color.

4.2.5 Hard Cover (and overlapping no-shoots) must not completely hide the

highest scoring zone on a partially hidden paper target. The minimum

requirements are specified in Appendix B.

Just tell them it's a guy standing behind a B-Pillar. :roflol:

The only problem I see is consistence, and that can be dealt with.

  7. Check your barrel for a bulge. I wonder if you had a squib and got away with firing another shot (much higher pressure due to 2 bullets) and the case failed, but the barrel cleared without flying apart. Lead is softer than jacketed ammo, so maybe the two bullets managed to slide down the barrel? Was the metal you pulled from your wounds brass fragments?

I had a few squibs recently with .45acp (still not sure exactly what happened) and with those, with hearing protection on, just a primer going off is nothing more than a "click". The first time it happened, I assumed it was just a failure to ignite...until I racked the slide and an empty case fell out.

    Yup...

  8. There is a lot to be said about how the gun looks and pride of ownership, especially when you are starting out in Open and just dropped big $. Reliability will always be #1 though

I understand that Mike, but to me, it's just a tool. I'm all about function over form... look at my mount. :)

  9. Mine looks like I used it for a hammer in the rain. Damn thing never misses a beat. People ask why I don't have it refinished, or look at it with a slight look of discust, I just smile when their 5k gun hiccups and my beater runs like a Swiss watch. Ever look at some of the cobbled guns the big dogs use? They won't win any awards for beauty, I can tell you that, but they all have one thing in common, they run smooth. Well most of them.... Poor Todd, wonder how many he lost because of malfs? I asked him after he left Para... he said to many to think about and shook his head with a combo of sadness and mild disgust.

This is in no way a slam on any builder, just thought rational behind what I feel is the most important consideration... Does it run? Any of the builders or manufacturers build a gun that is more than enough accurate for our sport.

My gun has about 4k on it right now and hasn't been cleaned. It still runs like a top, but I know I have to clean it because I can feel the slide slowing down and when you rack it... it feel like it has mud for lube. lol.

In point of fact, both my ugly primary and my not so ugly back-up will be traveling to Florida for the Open and both will be used in that match. Well, at least my guns will make it if not me.

  10. Question.....an Ro can issue safety warnings at any time according to above rule cited. Is not any time....well any time? Before, during, or after cof? Don't understand. Am I reading any time wrong?

For consistency, we have rules in place that allow problem areas to be rectified or addressed by use of the rules I quoted. Every shooter should hear the same thing from the RO, so you put it in the WSB. Can an RO issue a warning before the COF and after the WSB has been read? Yes, but it's not the best most consistent way to deal with it and could result in a stage being thrown out or arbed. We don't want either of those to happen, so that's why it says to read the WSB verbatim and not to ad lib anything.

Say I remind all shooters to watch the 180 on T4 and I step away to take a leak and the other RO does not issue that warning and the guy break the 180. His buddy asks him if the RO told him about it (which there is no obligation) but the guy didn't get the warning and his buddy did. Well, he just spent a grand to come to this match and he now thinks he was screwed because others got direction he did not get from the ROs. He says he should be able to shoot on an AS WHEN VISIBLE basis and next thing you know the MD is looking for people for an arb committee. Will he win? Most likely not, but we have seen examples of it and have had stages thrown out when the WSB was not clear and the RO tried to wing it on the fly. The key is consistency.... and the most, best, way to do that is to have it written down and read it back off the sheet.

    JT

  11. We have rules in place to deal with safety and or stage issues before a COF.

During is where the "at any time" comes in to play.

3.2.2 The Range Official in charge of a course of fire must read out

written stage briefing verbatim to each squad.

3.2.3 The Range Master may modify a written stage briefing at any time for

reasons of clarity, consistency or safety (see Section 2.3).

I am all about safety, but when there is a rule on how to deal with something, that's what we do. Now if there wasn't a rule there, and I found something inherently dangerous, I too would speak up about it. In this case I would call the RM and have the WSB changed or correct the issue with FA if it was a safety issue.

    Best,

    JT

  12. You don't ad-lib on a WSB. You read it verbatim every time. IF you have something you think needs to be addressed get on the radio and call the RM over and let her make the call. If it's a level 1 with no RM, go with the MD or designer and work it out that way. When you figure it out you write in in the WSB and then you read the new one verbatim too.

No jokes, no crazy inflections, etc "Just the facts mam."

    JT

  13. Actually, I might be wrong on that one... I read somewhere that a guy took the slide and barrel off a 96 and ran it on a 92. Not something I would do just remember it posted somewhere.

I think there was some back and forth on a ramp angle or something though... been a long time since I read it though.
