Oh boy a revolver with a slow to open cylinder due to the thumb piece (Smith term can't remember the proper Ruger term), a small trigger guard opening with a short radius trigger, just what we all need for fast shooting and quick reloads.
This is exactly what I was thinking while reading the previous posts. As far as durability, I'll keep my GP100 over the dozen plus S&W's I have. But for use in a competitive nature, the S&W's are just better designed. It just further goes to show how Ruger was of a practical mind in his design.

I have a half dozen or so PC revolvers and have found that by replacing a few parts and lots of fitting they can be made into pretty decent guns

It seems to me then, based on your example, they should then be termed "almost ready to work center" guns. When you put the word Performance in the title, that is what it should be capable of right out of the box.
Trust me, I'm a S&W fan! But this is the perfect example of exactly what is wrong with American products these days. Many skilled laborers, most of whom are earning a better than decent wage, just don't care if they put out crap products. The product goes out, they get paid, big deal kinda attitude. It's hard to convince folks to give up foreign and buy domestic with examples of high priced shoddy workmanship like this.

I agree Rich. The man was a freak of sorts, but yet he was a father. My prayers are still with his family. It is GOD's task to be the judge, not us.

Thanks Viggen! I'm familiar with Hearthco's. And they are dandy!! I just hate to have to have the gun cut for clips. I wish S&W would just do it at the factory! I figure I'll just simplify things and get a 325 Nightguard. I've already got a ton of .45 brass, moonclips, etc. I was mainly just hoping to find something that'd work in .38. I'm sure even loaded to ICORE minor that .45's will still pack a decent punch in a 27 ounce gun.

Does anyone know of a company besides Maxfire that makes a reliable 8-shot speedloader? How about someone besides HKS that makes a 7-shot? I'd kinda like to have either a Nightguard 327 or 386 to shoot in snubbie matches, but don't want to have to have it cut for moonclips, and don't want to have to load one round at a time. The last HKS loaders I had just didn't hold the rounds tight enough to facilitate quick enough reloads. That was nearly 20 years ago though. Has HKS improved since then?

I want to start competing in my local club's Pistol Caliber Carbine events, but I want to use a gun that kinda stands out. NFA rules aside (I already know what I have to do to make this project legal), is there anything mechanically preventing me from buying a Rock River 9mm pistol and adding a buttstock to simply turn it into a SBR? Will I need to change the buffer tube? Is the lower a different design to prevent the addition of a buttstock? I know nothing about these kinda guns, but think this would be a neat kinda gun to have once the legalities are properly cared for.

Kids are often better able to cope than we give them credit for. They are going to experience unpleasant circumstances througout their life. I think the younger they are exposed the better they can deal with it as it continues to occur.

I'm with the concensus on this one: Maybe.
A $3K single stack? Not on your life! I have too many $1K single stacks that I can shoot just as well as one costing 3x more (may not be as smooth, but I can shoot them just a good). A $3K Limited gun? Big Maybe. Limited isn't my main thing, and I'm only a B in Limited. So $3K is stretching in that category. But I'm preparing to happily pay $2,100.00 for one as soon as I can muster a couple hundred more bucks! A $3K Open gun? You ain't gettin' much more than stock for $3K in an Open gun. But for me personally, I hate shooting Open so I wouldn't give you a plug nickle for any of them.
Of course if money isn't an option and you have the ability then by all means, go all out. As I said, I'm a B in Limited. Will a $3K gun make me a Master? I doubt it. But it sure as heck fire would look good on my belt and I'd drop the $$$ in a heartbeat if it were not a factor.

I shot my buddy's .40 Edge side-by-side with my .45 Trojan yesterday afternoon and can tell you that my Trojan is more accurate than his Edge (I can shoot five shots into a ragged hole the size of a half dollar off hand at 15 yrds.). My Trojan is not as smooth as his Edge in cycling though. Not sure if the SS will hold the longer seated ammo.

I'm narrowing down what kind of Limited gun I want, and have pretty much decided on an STI Eagle (money is a consideration, so that's why. I know a custom gun is better, but it's nearly twice the cost).
I'm not sure though whether to go 5 or 6 inch? I like the Eagle over the Edge because the Edge feels too front heavy and I seem to transition better with a standard dust covered framed gun. Will a 6 inch mess up the characteristics I like about the 5 inch Eagle (lighter front, better "swing")?
Would like opinions from those with experience.

Who should I have build it? I'm thinking about just selling the Open upper and going straight Limited. I've always wanted to shoot Open, and did so yesterday for the first time with an actual Open gun. After doing so, I just don't think it's my cup of tea and would rather stick to an iron sighted gun. I'm going to purchase this gun because of the price, but will probably either sell it to fund a nice Limited gun, or just sell the upper and have a Limited upper built for it.

I'm trying to ascertain a ballpark figure for how much it'll cost me to have a limited top end built. I've been offered an exceptional deal on an SV Open gun and want to have a limited top built for it too. Doesnt have to be the bestest and most eye catching thing you've ever seen, just solid and reliable. And who would you recommend to have build it?

I'm an open shooter and I currently have a 1050 setup for my .38 super major loads and a 650 that I have for my .38 super steel loads. I swap the 650 back and forth to .40 and some other calibers. I'm thinking of getting a 550 for .40 and for any other odd ball loads I shoot. I hate swapping calibers and prefer to a have a press setup for what I need. What are your thoughts?
If you have what you say you have; Put the drink down now, you have what you need. Load a few thousands of what you want and change. If you use a 1050 or a 650 and go to a 550 you are not going to be happy.

Why take a step down in performance? At the very least get another 650.

i know i just need to do it, was going to have a pair done before the season started, and now i missed that dead line. big hold up for me is living in BFE shipping is a bit of a hassle.

I'm looking to change the rear sights on my 625 as the stock sight seems too shallow.
Took a look at the Weigand and it seems as though it would provide the sight picture I'm used to (similar to that of my 1911). But it seems like it may be a bit vulnerable and subject to getting hung up or broken off.
I'd like to hear some of the pros/cons of this sight from current users. And what size front would I need to use with it? I'm assuming a .300"?
