  1. Based on my experience it’s going to be a decent amount slower out of the revolver. (This is just a guess from using 9mm data in 38sc)
  2. Nice! That’s a good looking revolver!
  3. I got 300 from Graf's. I was already paying shipping for something else and the price was within a few cents of Starline direct at that time.
  4. My thoughts exactly. Plus, I’d hate to get everything all set up, sights zeroed, press dialed in, to have to go back and change it later…
  5. 3 grains of Titegroup behind a 160 blue bullet. 3 grains is giving (if I remember my data correct) 127 or so PF. I’m debating if I should set up for 3 grains biasing my measure toward the high side, or just go with 3.1 and never worry about it again. I’m thinking the second option is the best.
  6. Well guys, I finally had the chance to get out and complete the chrono work. Funny enough 3.0 grains is right where I am going to end up! The velocity gain from 2.6 to 2.8 grains was 80 FPS! from there it was small steps again. I ran tests through 3.1 grains just to see what it would do and it's nice to know that I have some headroom. The photo is the cases from the 3.1 grain test. No pressure signs whatsoever. They fell out of the cylinder without even using the extractor. I call it a win. I'm sure 3.2 would have been fine but I knew where I needed to be so I just called it at 3.1. I guess it's time to load a bunch and start getting the feel for them!
  7. I love me some 44 magnum so I’ve got a good supply of 2400 and blue dot around that I also run in 357. it’s just those pesky primers that need to come down in price! while we’re on the topic, how is powder availability for any of you guys. I seem to find almost exclusively Hodgdon family products (Winchester, imr, accurate, Hodgdon). I haven’t seen any alliant powders in years!
  8. In the testing I’ve done so far it’s been fine. Cleaner than 2400 in 357 magnum. A lot less of a fireball though haha
  9. All of the loads I’ve done so far have been dropped on a chargemaster and verified on a mechanical scale. So I’m not suspecting my weights just yet. I’d be more willing to suspect the chrono. I’ll load up more and go test them soon. and I see your in Tustin, if I can’t get this worked out, you’ll be hearing from me! I live up in Ventura County and Commute to Malibu.
  10. That was my hope, is that maybe I’m on the edge of breaking a velocity wall. I have seen that in rifle, but I don’t know about pistol loading for velocity. I think more of that fast powder to help offset the escaping gas from the B/C gap can only help.
  11. Here’s the kicker, I shot some ammo over it that I’m relatively certain of its velocity (although I haven’t shot it out of a 5 inch barrel. And it read almost 100 fps faster than I was expecting it to. So the chrono is at least in the ballpark.
  12. As it is I’m not seeing much change in velocity. I’m not real confident that I’m going to gain over 100 fps with .3 of a grain. but alas, all I can do is try!
  13. Same here, I started with 9mm loads, but they are nowhere near the velocity they should be. No pressure signs whatsoever, primers are as rounded as they get.
  14. I guess what I will do first is do a ladder test that goes through 3.2 grains or so and see where that gets me.
  15. As far as the 38sc, I am wondering if I need to seat deeper to really see some more velocity. I am currently seating at 1.200 and most people seem to be shorter by quite a bit…
  16. I did that with H4350 right at the beginning of the pandemic, I thought it was a ripoff at the time but by today’s standards its very reasonable!
  17. I’m only really using Titegroup because it’s the only fast powder I have at the moment, and as you guys know, supply is scarce lately. I just wanted a load to at least get started with!
  18. Thanks for the input! I just wanted to be diligent and start a little lower before I went over book. I am also questioning whether 3.0 grains will push that velocity up enough to get to 800 f/s to make a 125pf. I guess there is only one way to find out!
  19. I went and shot the 627 today. At 2.6 grains of Titegroup and 160gn blue bullet, I’m only getting about 670 or so fps. That was the highest I had loaded for today. that’s about 150 fps less than the book lists for a 4” 9mm. I figure the cylinder gap and longer than book OAL probably contributes to that. time to crank it up a little more I guess?
  20. How true are the comments about the titanium cylinder being “sticky” to extract and sensitive to different loads?
  21. If you have a 9mm, I see no reason not to use the 9mm case. I was after the ability to use factory 38 special for fun, or the ability to load it up with 357 magnum incase I ever want to carry the pistol or what have you. I didn’t really feel comfortable with the idea of being stuck with moon clips with a 929. Not to mention the other deciding factors in my particular situation that I mentioned before…
  22. I just found out that Hodgdon has published load data for a 160 round nose in 9mm. I like that.
  23. There were several reasons I went the way that I did. One is .357 magnum. The other is that I was able to purchase an older (pre 2003) 627 PC that already has trigger work and is ready to go. I didn't want to mess with setting up a 929 after reading the piles of threads about them.
  24. I am going to exchange the clips for the std ones. Thanks for the help everyone. One more thing while I have you all, As far as mounting stuff on my belt, I assume the thing to do is to make the mating end of the belt be on my left side, so that I can mount the rack in front and holster on my right side? Seems like the thing to do, just want to make sure.
  25. Well Titegroup is what I can get for now so I'm going to give it a shot! As far as the moon clips, I emailed BMT also, just to see what they think about the situation…
