I am just wondering if NJ matches "allow" 15 rounders for production despite the law.

Without getting into too much detail, those of us with 10 round magazines would be at a disadvantage.  That is why we are switching to Limited 10.

  2. In New Jersey with the 10 round magazine limit a lot of guys that were shooting Production actually switched to Limited 10.  I'll be switching to Limited 10 starting in April.  Ironically, in New Jersey, changing the maximum rounds per magazine for Production actually decreased participation.

  3. Thank you to everyone for the clarification.  After pulling the trigger on an empty chamber, I'll just pull the bolt back, put the flag in, and leave the hammer cocked.  I'm not worried about the hammer being cocked.

  4. I'm thinking about trying PCC.  I understand unload and show clear for a PCC.  Then hammer down and flag.  The thing is, when I pull the bolt back to put the flag in it cocks the hammer.  Is it acceptable to have the flag in with a cocked hammer?  I tried many different ways to put the flag in and every time the hammer ends up cocked.

  5. Right now the Precision One is cheaper if you buy it in lots of 500 ($140) versus lots of 1000 ($290).  Doesn't make sense, but who am I to argue?  Still more expensive than Super Vel for 1000 rounds ($280.00 versus $254.95).

I use supervel 124 remans but I'm not married to it. It chrono'd pretty consistently for me and I haven't really had any problems thru my shadow 2 w 13lb mainspring so I've stuck with it. But please share names of other remanufacturers that are just as cost effective and have a PF around 130ish so I can check them out.

I'm using Precision One 124 grain competition ammo ( 9mm 124gr FMJ (REMANUFACTURED) COMPETITION - Precision ONe Ammunition ).  I've shot over 1000 rounds with no malfunctions using an AccuShadow 2 (13 pound mainspring).

Only time it should be an issue is if there's awards or whatever that require a certain number of participants.

Do it a lot and people will accuse you of division-hopping to avoid someone.

I'm not looking to avoid someone but I am looking to avoid being the only participant in Limited-10.  I enjoy the challenge of a lo cap magazine, but many of the matches where I shoot only have 1 or 2 people in Limited-10 which isn't really enough to be interesting.

  8. I shot the gun with the Lok Brass grips yesterday.  They helped a little bit when shooting with both hands but helped a lot when shooting strong hand or weak hand.  I believe this is because the gun is more balanced with the brass grips.  The texture was grippy but did not damage my hands at all.  Overall I'm very happy with the Lok Brass grips.

Many shooters have shot Production with a Shadow, including myself and have never been worried about dropping it from the time it takes to manually lower the hammer to taking the first shot.

While thousands of shooters have used Shadows with extended firing pins without anything bad happening, I replaced my extended firing pin with the stock firing pin after the RO was killed when the Shadow 2 with extended firing pin was dropped, went off, and killed him.  Even a 1 in a million chance is too high for me.  YMMV.

  10. USPSA Production division requires the hammer to be down at the start of the stage.  Cocked and locked or half cocked is not an option.  I replaced my extended firing pin with a stock firing pin to make the gun drop safe.  I've never had a malfunction using the stock firing pin, so there is no disadvantage to using it.

  11. I agree it's the ammo.  I shot over 1000 rounds using CCI and Winchester primers with a CZC 13 pound hammer spring, 11 pound recoil spring, stock firing pin, and reduced (RAMI) firing pin spring.  I haven't had any malfunctions whatsoever.

  12. I ended up purchasing the Lok Brass palm swell grips in Black Cerakote.  I haven't shot the gun with them yet, but I really like the way they feel.  My support hand has a lot more to grip onto now.  The texture is aggressive but not punishing.  The brass also helps balance the gun.  I'm looking forward to trying them out at the range soon.

I have them in the S and M size. Great grips, color selection and build quality at a decent price.

I also have the Lok Brass grips in the normal and thin variant. Their grippiness is a little better than the Armanovs, but I like the shape of the Armanovs a lot more, so overall I prefer them.

Where did you purchase your Armanov grips from?  I tried purchasing the grips from the Armanov USA website, but my credit card required use of a PIN due to security concerns (this is unusual for this credit card).  By the time I received the PIN, the Armanov website had timed out.  Are there any USA based distributors I could purchase them from?

  14. Did you plunk test the Federal Syntech 150 grain loads?  When I plunk tested the Federal Syntech 130 grain loads only half would pass.  The other half would hit the rifling.  A round that's hitting the rifling could jam up the gun.

  15. I'm using a CZ Custom 13# hammer spring with a stock firing pin and reduced firing pin spring and haven't had any issues with CCI and Winchester primers.

  16. I shot a Level 1 match this past Sunday.  The pits had a sandy surface.  Halfway through my second stage my gun jammed with the slide halfway back.  Looking down the cartridge was almost vertical.  I dropped the mag and the jammed cartridge fell out the mag well.  I put a new magazine in, racked the slide, and finished the stage.  Inspecting the faulty magazine I found the follower had jammed and wasn't pushing the cartridges up.  Sand had gotten between the follower and the magazine wall and was causing enough friction to prevent the spring from pushing the cartridges up.  After that I made sure to empty my magazines after each stage and knock out as much sand as I could before loading them for the next stage.
