Does anyone know a gunsmith that is able to do a full moon clip conversion on a Dan Wesson 44 cylinder? Previously I had a Dan Wesson 44 cylinder moon clipped by https://pinnaclehighperformance.com/ but they are no longer taking in any new business. TK Customs wouldn't moon clip a Dan Wesson because they couldn't get replacement parts if something happened. The Dan Wesson 44 takes the same moon clips as the Smith and Wesson 29, but needs scallop cuts done to the cylinder. Here is my current Dan Wesson 44.

Figured this might be interesting to others as well. My current collection of speed loaders for my Dan Wesson 744 revolver which all fit Smith and Wesson 29/629 revolvers as well. These are all the 44 speed loaders I know of, but if there are any others please let me know! Here's the changes from the 2017 to 2022 rulebook(red is deleted text), specifically about moon clip carriers. I've also been trying to understand what the rules mean by "retained in the carrier by 3 or less cartridges". Previously that rule was talking about material surrounding the moon clip carrier, so I wonder if it's still expected that their be enough material in front/behind/sides that is pressing against at least 4 rounds under tension. This is a long way of saying, that the front open style moon clip holder may not be legal still?

I shoot a moon clipped Dan Wesson 44 magnum in IDPA and it's a lot of fun. The downside with moon clipped 44 guns is that the moon clips are very thin and very pricey, $6-$7 each and only TKCustom makes them. They tend to get tweaked through normal use so you need to bend them back regularly with the TKCustom's Moon Clip Saver

I don't compete with these speedloaders but have both in 44 magnum and practice with them. The SL Variant is by far superior and easier to use than the Speed Beez speedloader. The SL Variant speedloader holds the rounds under tension and releases them with very little effort needed, while the Speed Beez holds the rounds using a spring band that you need to overcome with a fair amount of force when loading the rounds into the revolver. Also for some reason the 44 Mag SL Variants, at least in the first batch, aren't completely assembled correctly and need to be taken apart; fully screwed together with loctite applied. Here's a picture of a fixed SL Variant on the left and the way they arrive on the right, notice the length of the brass rod that is sticking too far out.
