Looks for Range

Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. Yes, I had one in a backup rifle, but just couldn't get used to the 2-stage feel since I have the JP single stage in my match rifle. The RRA 2-Stage is a pretty good unit for the $, specially after it is tuned but then the JP is only another $50. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I have been running a RRA two stage trigger for about 6 months. Dropped in with around a 40 ounce letoff, contributing to at least several "doubles" per range session while I tried getting used to it. After several sessions, I pulled the trigger and cleaned up the trigger/disconnector interface to try increasing the 2nd stage slightly. Now at 44 ounces, no more doubles, and I am liking it well enough considering the low cost (under $100). The JP single stage I've shot at 3#'s for over 7 years is a better overall trigger as far as feel and user confidence, and has never doubled on me. Paladin ETA:8-26 I installed another RRA NM trigger this week in a '78 Colt SP1. The first stage is about 32 oz., the overall weight is a little over 72 oz., the highest my gauge goes. A little more than 4.5#, but not much. The first stage takeup can be treated like "play in the system", and my index finger almost believes the 2nd stage is just a 3# single stage with no creep. 2. I finally got the UM holster yesterday. The mag pouches from botach were out of stock, and they left me hanging until I called last Friday. They promptly shipped what they had on hand. So I can go for the Blade Tech pouches still. The Blade tech stuff on their site looks great, probably a step up from UM. I was so excited to get the holster, I did a smart thing, followed by a "learning experience" which was rather humbling. I tried out the holster with a Safariland leather belt, and used a full size 1911 "counterfeit" gun to see how drawing the pistol would be. It fit snugly, and withdrew faster than I expected, which was cool. And yes, I held it upside down over a couch cushion, and it did NOT fall out! So later, I was showing the wife my new "fathersday" toy, and commented to her how well it held the "piece" while shook upside down. BAM! How could a gun fall 4 feet so fast? I was really, REALLY happy my Colt had not crashed to the floor like that. I promise to NEVER do that again, even with a toy gun. And yes, I WILL continue using the fake 1911 for any handling drills for a while. I felt so much like Barney Fife, I did not even take the real 1911's out to the range with me this morning... Paladin
  3. I need "something" to hold my 1911, and have heard the UM Kydex mentioned for $20. The 1911 dual mag pouch is also around $20 normally. As I've rarely used any kind of holster in the past, I wanted something inexpensive to get reaquainted with my 1911 and hopefully not be too embarrased about shooting action pistol for the first time(soon). Botach has them on special for $4.95 for the holster, and $8.95 for the mag pouch! Yes, I know their "rep", and have had good luck with all my previous orders. Sounds like too little money, there must be a catch somewhere, but for a beginner would these items be OK? Is a pair of mag pouches (4 reloads) enough for most stages? In whatever class a box stock 45 belongs... Paladin
  4. I did not notice anyone mentioning the weight difference. IIRC the Winchester 1300 Defender I used to own had an alloy receiver making it lighter, and the recoil using slugs was much more noticable than my 870 Rem. Much less fun over a longer COF, and recovery for a second shot was always slower for me than when using the 870. Paladin
  5. What a strange way to introduce oneself, but the test said I N T J (78/62/12/22). Does the low T score mean my brain is dead?! That would explain a lot... Paladin
