To the idea of going broke at a 2/3 gun match. We had small local club matches (30 or less shooters) and started to burn our safety officers out with long matches. We went to what we called CQ matches. 3 stages. 30 hits combined per stage. Steel for rifle no farther that 150 yds. out. Now we limit it to 24 shooters per match. At first it was rifle/pistol 2 gun. The blasters really wanted the shotguns involved so we went to 3 gun. We can finish a match in 3 1/2 hours and have kept the ammo bill down to the point that locals who can't spend the money traveling to bigger matches have the ability to participate. We really only have 4 bays that would handle 3 gun stages so this was what we could do monthly with our facility and staff.

Yup. Got some nastygrams from a regional coordinator & dropped the IDPA name for the next match. We were not interested in running a sanctioned match at any point so why spend anymore time with all the gibberish. Used to be an SO instructor.

At one point I had a worked on 80 series Gold Cup. I could keep 2 out of 8 on a 18" square gong @ 110 yds. My friend had a Les Baer Premier II. I used his gun with the same ammo. Went to 7 out of 8 on the same gong first try. I had one within 3 months. That was 15K rounds ago ( mostly cast bullets). I can take it apart without a wrench now but it still outshoots me. They are a lot of gun for the money compared to many other premium pistols.

Just found this forum. I have been an IDPA match director for 10 years. I was a certified safety officer instructor until the new rulebook. Currently running an Action Pistol hybrid match. I have spent some time in 3 gun also. I have reloaded for 20+ years which means only that I am old. Looking forward to all the good info available here.
