Permission to crosspost:

The Back Alley Shooter's Society "meets" on the 3rd Saturday of every month, ~1730 hours, at Stonewall in Broadview Heights, OH. See www.stonewallrange.com. There's nothing on the website about the match, but it does include directions to the range, near I-77 & Rte 82.

Match goals:

- be safe, play nice, have fun

- live-fire scenarios, especially for CCW/CHL carriers who might not otherwise get much practice

- competition shooters & LE are VERY welcome

- new shooters welcome, just let us know that you're new and somebody will personally coach you through the match (to whatever extent you need)

- we prefer a holster but, if you don't have one, you may shoot from low-ready

- .22 rimfire is OK, especially for kids and new shooters

- I've tried airsoft, but our timer doesn't pick it up

- for the CCW folks, the range is "cold" during the match, and we certainly encourage you to shoot with your CCW rig

The match consists of three short-to-medium courses of fire. Always 50 rounds or less. $10. Sign the waiver & pay at the main cash register; match is in the back/training range.

We're not formally affiliated with IPSC/USPSA, IDPA, NRA/Bianchi, Steel Challenge or any other competition group. We take stage design inspiration from many shooting sports. Frequently you'll find a mix within the same match. The only prizes are self-satisfaction and bragging rights (that + 60 cents gets you a can of pop from the machine). Emphasis is on solid skill development in a very safe & welcoming environment. You'll see lots of barricades, strong/weak hand, ports/windows, and some movement. [For next weekend's match, I've designed 2 of the stages -- movement, ports, strong/weak hand and turning draws. The third stage is a mock-up assailant stage designed by our resident retired Sheriff's Deputy.]

You may shoot from concealment and practice appropriate use of cover ... but you don't have to.

You may run-and-gun and "game" the stage ... but you don't have to.

You may shoot around a barricade PPC-style ... but you don't have to.

You may shoot the strong-hand-only strings like a bullseye shooter, standing sideways with one hand in your pocket ... but you don't have to.

Safety and fun are more important than adherence to a strict competition style ... but you can certainly do it that way if that's what you want to practice.

If you're interested in learning more about either IDPA or USPSA styles of shooting these stages, there are experienced shooters there who can walk you through that.

Everyone is welcome. Next match is Jan 16, 2010 ... and the 3rd Saturday every month thereafter.
