NCShooter
Hi, I'm looking for some info from someone who has an XD with a Bomar rear sight. Preferably someone who had the Bomar installed on a slide which originaly had the standard dovetail. I believe the flat bottom speciality Bomar needs to be used. Is the slide milled to the bottom of the original dovetail, below that, or does the dovetail need to be welded and the slide milled to some point above the original bottom. If anyone has had this done to a slide which originaly had the standard dovetail some measurements and or pictures would be great. Thanks in advance. Bob Hostetter
I take a stock BoMar and cut the dovertail off. I then make a plug to fit the factory dovertail cut and weld it in. I then make a modified BoMar cut and weld the BoMar base to the slide.
NCShooter
Thanks for the info. I'm assuming then that your "modified BoMar cut" does not go as deep as the original dovetail?
Patrick Sweeney
Hold on, I've got an XD with Bomars on it around here somewhere.....
Bob Hostetter
If you were to make a standard 1911 style BoMar cut on a XD you would be cutting into the extractor and the striker channel.
NCShooter
Yeah, I knew you couldn't do a standard BoMar cut. What is the difference in the flat bottomed BoMar sights and a standard BoMar if you mill off the dovetail? Is one taller than the other?
RIIID
NCShooter, Look at Bo-mars melted in the slides in the Gallery at canyoncreekcustom.com, if you like what you see give me a call. I don't weld the sight to the slide. Rich
Patrick Sweeney
Mine's a Bat-Sto custom, and appears to be a flat-bottom Bomar with the base soldered to a machined recess in the slide.
