PFISTO
Below is my chart of rounds fired trying to find a good bullet for my gun. I have a Custum Commander from EGW with 18 lb spring, KART NM BARRALL, Caspian frame, Oversized fireing pin stop. There are no velocty's as I don't have a chrono. I am trying to find best load for IDPA. The R2 stands for my second round of shooting in which I changed to a full length EGW U DIE and had a new spring installed as the old one was maybe to short and had .005 taken of the spring rod stop. I would like to thank everyone for thier posts about different loads your input was a major help. I know post is a little hard to read I will try to post spread sheet later if asked Thanks Mike BULLET MFG - TYPE - WEIGHT - POWDER - CHARGE - AOL - SCORE - SHOTS 1 MONTANA R2-- SWC-- 200-- WST-- 4.7-- 1.245-- 128-- 14 2 PRECISION MOLLY-- SWC-- 200-- VV320-- 5-- 1.25-- 91-- 10 3 MONTANA LRN-- 230-- WST-- 4.28-- 1.25-- 71-- 8-- 4 MONTANA R2-- SWC LBT-- 200-- VV 310-- 4.7-- 1.25-- 102-- 13 5 PRECISION DELTA-- JRN-- 230-- VV320-- 5-- 1.25-- 90-- 12 6 PRECISION MOLLY-- SWC-- 200-- VV320-- 5-- 1.25-- 90-- 12 7 MONTANA R2-- LRN-- 230-- VV320-- 4.6-- 1.25-- 104-- 14 8 MONTANA R2-- SWC LBT-- 200-- VV310-- 4.7-- 1.25-- 78-- 11 9 MONTANA-- SWC LBT-- 200-- WST-- 4.5-- 1.25-- 85-- 12 10 PRECISION MOLLY-- LRN-- 230-- VV320-- 4.8-- 1.25-- 84-- 12 11 MONTANA R2-- SWC LBT-- 200-- WST-- 4.75-- 1.25-- 97-- 14 12 BETTER-- SWC-- 200-- WST-- 4.5-- 1.25-- 76-- 11-- 13 PRECISION MOLLY-- SWC-- 200-- WST-- 4.5-- 1.25-- 80-- 12 14 BETTER-- SWC-- 200-- VV310 5-- 1.25-- 77-- 12-- 15 MONTANA R2-- SWC 2R-- 200-- WST-- 4.72-- 1.225-- 57-- 9 16 BETTER-- SWC-- 200-- VV310 4.5-- 1.25-- 76-- 12-- 17 MONTANA-- SWC-- 200-- WST-- 4.5-- 1.25-- 82-- 13 18 MONTANA R2-- SWC-- 200-- VV310-- 4.7-- 1.25-- 86-- 14 19 MONTANA R2-- SWC LBT-- 200-- VV320-- 5-- 1.252-- 89-- 15 20 BETTER-- SWC-- 200-- VV320-- 5-- 1.25-- 69-- 13 -- AVG SCORE----- NOTES 1-- 9.14 -- 4 SHOOTS @ 50 FT 34 PTS (8.5) NICE RECOIL 2 -- 9.10 -- 2 JAMS NICE RECOIL (3&4 SAME) 3-- 8.88 -- LITTLE SNAPPY NOT BAD 4-- 7.85 -- REAL GOOD FEEL 1 MAG LOCK BACK 5-- 7.50 -- SNAPPY 6-- 7.50 -- 2 JAMS NICE RECOIL (3&4 SAME) 7-- 7.43 -- REAL GOOD FEEL 1 MAG LOCK BACK 8-- 7.09-- LITTLE SNAPPY NOT BAD 9-- 7.08-- NICE FEEL 10-- 7.00-- 11-- 6.93-- REAL GOOD FEEL 12-- 6.91-- NICE FEEL 1 JAM 13-- 6.67-- NICE FEEL 14-- 6.42-- NICE FEEL 15-- 6.33-- NICE FEEL 16-- 6.33-- REAL SNAPPY 17-- 6.31-- NICE FEEL 18-- 6.14-- PRETTY SNAPPY 1ST LOAD TO SHOOT 19-- 5.93-- NICE FEEL 20-- 5.31-- 1 MISS FIRE MORE KICK Edited October 24, 2005 by PFISTO
Canuck-IL
Those data are too idiosyncratic to be useful...jams, fail to lockback, "feel," etc. are peculiar to the gun and perhaps how is it gripped. You can often get a chrony on e-bay for a very reasonable price. /B

I believe that anyone who has done enough research will be able to get a good feel as to what loads will produce what results ( granted in the ball park). I also did not use a bench rest as I believe that there is a benifit in doing test's as close to real as possiable, ie IDPA. Don't get me wroung if I had a chrony and a bench rest setup I would have used them but as of right now I don't. And lets keep in mind that I am not trying to sell or endorse anything just showing my results in my little test. I believe that the information that is displayed here is only something to be used as a guide for anyone else. Having said that I defintaly saw and felt difference's in certain loads and the info is most defiently based on feel and my way of handling the gun as your's may be different, producing better or worse results. Thanks for your thoughts
Canuck-IL
Perhaps someone will find it useful...I'd think at a minimum however, that would require: - condition of the barrel before each string...cleaned, oiled, fouling shots? - distance at which they were shot, target type/size - crimp - variance around the referenced 'average' overall length - type of brass and number of uses - primers - temp/humidity/wind - etc The point is one needs to be more systematic to arrive at optimal and even then, it's only a starting point for the next gun. My .02, take it for what it cost you. /B

Are you saying that I should be cleaning the barrall in between groups. The crimp was .469 the target was 10" at 30 feet. The brass was mixed. I also kinda feel that I was wasting my time??????? I know (I think) your only giving constructive ctitisem but this is a work in progress and will get better in time but for what I am doing I feel I am making progress. Canuck-IL
Yes, anything in above was meant to be by way of constructive suggestion...sorry if it doesn't appear that way. My last in this thread...keep a log book with as many particulars as you can...it'll be of value later. And, yes, by the 100th shot, the gun is not behaving the same as in the first string...to give each load/powder/OAL/etc a fair test, the barrel should start in roughly equivalent condition. /B Edited October 25, 2005 by Canuck-IL
