Looks for Range (1/11)

  1. I would like to thank everyone for thier input to this, Yes I KNOW most of us here view this discussion as something very ignorant and stupid and a waste of our time. But it was a serious question in a discussion about mythbuster's type stuff and I did not know the answer and I figured this would be the best place to get intelligent answers. So thanks again
  2. Well I guess thats my answer it will blow up. Are you certain of this?? I kinda thought that it may very well blow up but also is there any chance that the bullet would discharge from the case and only go a small distance??
  3. OK I realize that this could be a stupid question but I work with some very interesting people. So here it goes. What would happen if you placed a live round in a vice and discharged the bullet. would the round be dicharged with any significant velocity. No I have not nor will I try this myself. Thanks Mike
  4. Just to answer some of the comments. I am using ONE SHOT in the media to polish the cases and the Dillon case lube to make the bullets. Ihave since used these bullets to shoot and sis not have any apparent problems. I have not cleaned my gun yet so I can't comment if there seems to be any more junk to clean. And after making the rounds there doesn't seem to be any noticable residue on the cases. So thanks for all your help Mike
  5. Morning, Just wondering as I just started using case lube which I spray in a plastic bag then add cases and shake. It really helps to smooth the process. My question is do I have to wipe them down before I shoot them. this is for a 45 Thanks Mike

  7. Good Morning, I have been shooting for about a year now and most of my shooting has been at IDPA and a 50 foot range I joined. My question since my gun has been sighted in at 50 feet what distance could I expect my gun to maintain it's accuracy. I am shooting a Commander 45. I realize that the hotter the ammo the longer the distance would be and I also realize that without specific numbers it's hard to give a answer but lets asume that a velocity of around 825-850 as a number as this would be my IDPA LOAD. Thanks mike
  8. Yes there is no doubt that things react differently with all the stations filled. I guess it's just the nature of the beast during the setup. I have also noticed that the charge weight goes up after the initial setup. It's just a bit of a pain when your doing small lots of different loads.
  9. Good Morning, Well I have been using my 550b for about 3 months now and I have made some obsevations and would like to hear your thoughts. When I start a reloading session as I am still in the load devolpement stage I pick my bullet and charge and after I get my charge correct I move on to the bullett OAL. Now I raise the seater as to not overseating the bullett and continue to lower the die until I get my desired OAL. Once this is complete I'm ready to start reloading. Now the problem, it seems that after a few round have been loaded the OAL starts to creep up from lets say 1.244 to 1.250 then I have to adjust the OAL again which doesn't make any sence to me why this happens. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks Mike
  10. Good morning, I just got my shipment of Hornady bullets today. 1) 185 gr swc target encpsulated 2) 200 gr FMJ-CT 3) 230 GR FMJ-FP Just wondering if anyone has any load info on these. I am using VV 310, VV 320, WST I have the manuals for each powder but was just looking for some proven loads. In the WST listing it states 200 gr FPj which is not the same as mine except weight but I guess the load would be the same??? The 185 says JHP MINE again is the same weight but different style??? Thanks in advance
  11. What your saying is correct if the powder thrower is the culprit which it may have been, but I think that I did it in the process of checking everything aol, crimp different bullets etc. I hung the squibb where I can see it and wrote CHECH POWDER on the front of the press just to remind me. I have a hard time just running out 100 rounds without doing some kind of check, aol, crimp, grains whatever.
  12. Well last night I got my first squibb. I have just got my press about a month ago and I am in the process of finding the load I like the best for IDPA. As a result I am building many different loads in small amounts for my testing. I have mounted a mirror on my press to avoid and empty powder throws but one got thru. I just joined a pistol club last night and had to go thru a series of question and drills to prove my abilty. Everything went fine then I was let go to start shooting, As I found out there are many seasoned veterans there who were all watching me out of the corner of thier eyes. About 5 mags later is when I got the squibb now I believe it was the last round of a mag and I sort of remember thinking something wierd happened but I didn't see anything amiss. I loaded the next mag and the round would not chamber then another round same problem, so I load another mag with different bullets and the same thing what the hell is going on here. So as I am looking at my gun one of the vets come over to take a look and there it is. A 230 JRN stuck in the chamber just far enough to prevent a bullett from chambering. I was real lucky that the bullett didn't go in another 1/8 of an inch or I would have had a real problem. The guy told me that if that stuck round would have been a SWC that it probably would have traveled further in the gun and I would have been able to chamber another round and BANG. What a way to meet new friend's huh blowing up my gun and who knows what else. Wow was I lucky I guess to end this story you can't be to slow or carefull which I thought I was. Thanks Mike
  13. oops just found it...... Anyway does anyone use the Redding competition seating die if not which one????
  14. I have been reading the posts and it seems that everyone loves the redding micro seating die but I can't seem to find if it comes in a 45 acp. I hate the Dillon seating die adjustment and want to replace it with a better adjusting die. Does anyone use a micro adjust in the 45 if so which one?? Thanks in Advance Mike
