nvdwarrior
Been shooting my Versamax Sportsman for two years. Runs well with typical problems with shell loading. However, this week, while cleaning the little devil I looked into the receiver and noticed that the bolt latch spring was turned sideways behind the latch. Hmmmm. Stepped back from the bench to hear a nice crunching sound under my boot. Picking up the noise, a nice spring that looks just like the one behind the bolt latch, only longer? So, I have searched and hear people referring to running one or two springs at this location. My question of this learned group is this: How do the two springs come together behind the bolt latch. Is one inside the other? Are they next to each other? No diagrams or photos anywhere and usually you never see behind the bolt latch. Right now, one spring is in place and seems to function or offer pressure behind the bolt latch. However, if there were two springs in there together, perhaps I need two. Can anyone help me with a photo of how their springs are mounted? Truly appreciate your help, I am at a loss...
Chriswakey
They sit inside one another!
nvdwarrior
Chris, that is what I thought they did.....the question is, does the shorter one go outside or inside the taller? And thank you for your answer
Chriswakey
They should be different diameters so the smaller diameter one goes inside the bigger one! I'll try and send you a picture via pm when I get home.
nvdwarrior
Chris. After finding a large pair of tweezers I managed to fit them back into position without removing the bolt latch. The gun scrubber I used allowed the springs to move, with one falling out. There is nothing on the receiver or the back of the bolt latch that holds the springs in position so they just rotated. If I had never seen that spring on the floor I would never have known it. I have added the photos to show the latch with one spring and then with two installed. You solved the mystery Chris, thank you. Perhaps this will help the next guy who cleans his Versamax too well , ha ha.
