  1. G'day Mumbles.. Good to see another Aussie here! That's awfully tempting... I'm shooting CAS in the US in March.. then again in October ( a big year next year!!) June is kinda open...... Hmmm I'm so new I have to ask dumb questions... here's one.... Do ya have to be in a Team.. or can you just register as an individual participant? My "87" is the ADI one... yup, I'm one of VERY few folks who actually GOT theirs delivered! It is the "original" design... so you have to drop one round on the lifter THEN "start" another into the chamber.. or it won't feed (we do NOT use the mag in CAS.. in any case it feeds SLOWLY from the tube.. MUCH slower than I want to work the action!!!) The "Coyote Cap" version of the Chinese one has a "drop two" mod.... you CAN just drop two into the receiver and it will feed... I do NOT know whether the ones coming to Australia are HIS versions or not... to be honest, if they are NOT, I would be a little wary of them!!! I sincerely HOPE to be proven wrong about that !!!!!! P.S. I shot my "87" (and my 73 lever rifle) at the longun shoot Sunday....... and kicked butt.. That however is probly more due to my level of recent PRACTICE with those guns compared to the local IPSC shooters - they have rarely touched their long guns in recent times..... I think everyone had a REALLY good time.. so I hope they will run more long gun days.... It may not be like it USED to be... but it can still be fun....... The guys shooting those pump 308's have gotta get the feed sorted out though!!!
  2. Those English guys will need some practice I imagine!! While our gun laws Down Under are pretty sucky.. at least we can have Handguns!!!
  3. When I say this gentlemen.. please realise it is meant as the purest possible COMPLIMENT.. This is JUST like Cowboy Action Shooting...... "Hey, try this...." "Gun broke?... here, use my other one..." etc etc... Fine folks indeed...... take a bow guys! Unfortunately my next trip is well away from you guys... I'll be attending "Winter Range".. the US National CAS Championships... At Ben Avery in AZ March 7-11.... Fun Fun Fun.....
  4. Mike.. I am a BIG fan of practice... I have had some success in the CAS world... through PRACTICE!!! Hard work gets results! If I didn't have to WORK I'd be training 3-4 times a week before a major comp.. as it is I can manage one or two sessions.. plus home based transition type drills.... 3 -gun??? We wish! Not allowed to own ANY of the sort of rifles or shotguns you folks use.... Semi auto rifles, semi auto AND pump shotguns are HEAVILY restricted... We ARE having a Rifle/Shotgun shoot on Sunday.... so I'll be taking my CAS lever guns ( a 44-40 and a 38-55) and a couple of SXS's (to loan out) and my 87 Lever... but it ain't the same.. Sure, as a Cowboy shooter I can shoot a SXS pretty damn fast.... but it AIN'T the same!!! Pump rifles are not restricted.....(!)... go figure... My theory as to why not - our politicians have never seen a pump rifle in a Hollywood movie!!! Sure hope to shoot a match over there before too long... As I travel to the US each year for CAS, it seems to me that it shouldn't be too hard to find a State type match (or even a biggish Club match) to attend.... I already bring 4-5 guns over each time.. one more isn't a problem.
  5. Thanks Mike.... that one is just starting to appear Down Under I think.... Not really possible to source new guns from the US unfortunately.... the export requirements are apparently rather severe!! Having shot (the hell) out of a Glock on Sunday I have decided to start with one of those.... it fits me, I can operate the (extended) mag release with my small hands.. and I can HIT with it... (first stage with the borrowed pistol was 16 A/2 C....slowish but FUN!) In any case I'm sure IPSC is just like Cowboy Shooting in one respect.... a few years down the track most EVERYBODY has new/different/MORE gear!! Thanks again for ALL the comments!
  6. All good advice/comments.. Thanks! I am reluctant to go the revolver route INITIALLY.... noone at this club shots revolver seriously - it is pretty low on the totem pole of popularity here...... and I am going to need a mentor!!! Kinda fun anyway to shoot more than 6 shots in a row!! So I'll start with a semi-auto.. and then see..... I remember the Glock as having a grip angle I found "odd".... but that was just holding one... shooting 'em might prove to be a more edifying experience.... Half the fun is in the 'xperimenting!
  7. I'll have a look at the STI range - and yes.. I WILL be trying a Glock this Sunday.. Friend has a 17....... I've also been drooling over the Tanfoglio's... $$$$$ Sure but they hold significant appeal! Can't wait till Sunday!!! I should point out that IPSC operates under some pretty savage restrictions here... EVERYONE is limited to 10 round mags and 9mm, 38 Super, 357 Sig are about it for calibres.. not allowed anything over 38... So "Production" is a very popular choice.... Not sure if L10 is even offered here but that looks interesting.... If it is NOT, then I am leaning toward shooting something "L10 legal" anyway - in what ever Division that fits into here... As I travel to the US every year for Cowboy shoots it'd be nice to be able to slot in an IPSC shoot while there... so using something that "fits" would be a real good idea! Not surprisingly we shoot on the "Classic" target!!! Thanks for the welcome!
  8. G'day Folks, Glad to have found this site! I am in the process of expanding my shooting horizons Down Under by adding IPSC to my schedule... Been shooting CAS for 12 years - that was my intro to Handguns (other than some 9mm Hi Power shooting in the Navy) and have reached a "certain level" there.... thought it was time for some variety. Have enjoyed my initial attempts at IPSC and am now going through the process of establishing WHAT to buy.... Liking the discussions here and that's for damn sure! Leaning toward the HS2000/Springfield XD at this point..... seems a reasonable choice from what I've read here so far... Bit tough being a beginner again.. but that has a certain attraction too!
