  1. I hear good things about the Maglula Uplula

Yeah, I have a uplula and it's the best thing "since sliced bread." it will totally save your thumbs. I can load a 20 round mag in under 30 seconds.

Can the uplula be used on 2011/double stack mags too? If so where would one get such a miraculous paw saving device?

  2. As a female who carries, I have been through a few different scenarios with this. One thing I think is most important is that the gun be lightweight, familiar, and small. I had what I thought was the perfect carry gun but it was too heavy. Too heavy to put in my pocket, purse, or elsewhere for any length of time. Then it got to the point I wouldn't carry it. Better to carry a smaller caliber, with fewer rounds, than to have nothing. And if it is lighter, you are not as tempted to set the purse down leaving you unarmed. Honestly I have found plenty of deisgner and fashionable purses with a pouch of their own that I turned into my very own "holster" purse. The key for me was getting the right pistol to carry, not the method of carrying it. With my current pistol, I put it in my pocket when I walk the dogs, it can go in my purse when I go to the store, or it could fit in my bra if I didn't have pockets!

  3. Kevin, I loved the videos! I am especially proud of my brother and his yoga moves  He works hard to stay in shape and has been amazed at his increased flexibility. Good to know it pays off in IPSC as well! Due to my vertical challenges I usually get a great benefit at shots like that B)

Thanks for sharing those, it was a great day of shooting I thought and it is always nice to see a video of yourself and find what things you can improve on!

  4. Safariland, on the other hand, makes belts down to 24"... you might have better luck, there. There's a slight difference in stiffness between the two - but, frankly, I shot a Safariland belt combo (4350 outer, 029 inner) for a long time, and they work just fine. The 029 inner is a little bit thinner than the CR inner, so it'll fit into different belt loops a little easier, as well.

    Dave,

I am intrigued about this safariland belt. Does the velcro go the right way to match with my CR outerbelt? I've always been told that Safari parts go with safari parts. Also, you don't see many inner belts sold alone. Usually they are thrown in with the outer belt.

As for the hips. I made a great discovery...I use foam padding. I stuff in into my shorts before I get my rig on. It worked great this weekend. It had gotten to the point that walking around the house with just the gun on my hip was killing those bones. Thanks for your time and ideas :P

I presume that you are referring to the 'inner belt'.... You can buy lengths of velcro at your local hardware store in various widths. If the width of the inner belt is thinner than the outer belt it should still work okay.

30" of velcro at 1" or .75" would cost just a few dollars... I used to use that for my shorts as I had the same problem.

If the belt is hurting your hips then one other thing that might help is some padding between you hip and your clothes. Some surgical bandage is good for this, just fold it a few times and hold in position while you put your shorts on. Then put the belt on and tighten up.

I have the same problems with pain in my hips from the belt/holster so I use this setup all the time. It makes a huge difference.

 Hadn't thought of ace bandages, I tried foam this weekend and it rocked. I like your idea of just making one :P , hadn't thought of that either. That's a great idea. Thanks a ton for the info! :D

  5. tyetheflie,

I have been a scuba diver for 20 years and have built backpack rigs and weight belts made from the same material as the Cr, minus the velcro. You can trim this stuff to the length that you need! After you trim it, you carefully melt the trimmed end with a hot knife or a propane torch. All you need is some stout scissors to cut the belt to length. Practice "cauterizing" the cut end on the scrap and you will see what I mean. I have a harness that I used for wreck diving that has lasted over 10 years using this trim technique. All the materials that are used on the belt are synthetic and they melt real nice. I did not like the square ends on the Cr belt, so I trimmed the end and did the heat thing. Pics attached. Just be sure you cut the end with the velcro on ONE side! If you wish, take the thing to a shoe repair shop (If you can find one!) and have them restitch the cut end.

    Later,

    Chuck

Thanks for the info and pics Chuck. I totally get what you are saying. Can I pull the extra wrap that comes around the edges of the belt lengthwise? It is like it has two extra ridges top and bottom that don't seem to be that important. Course I don't know. What do you think of trying to cut those off too? I trimmed off the end and that went smoothly. I think I will take it to a shop to have the heavy duty stitch redone. So that can cover length issues but it is width that has me flustered. Thanks for your help! B)

  6. I have only been shooting IPSC for a few months but grew up shooting quite a bit. So I order a CR Speed belt, of course at that time the smallest they had was a 34" (it wraps around me 1 1/2 times! So I am trying to fit the extra into my belt loops which are not big enough. The width of the inner belt is such that I usually have to buy mens pants in order to get the belt through the belt loops.

Please tell me someone else has had this problem and knows a solution. My waist is a 27", so I think even a 30" inner belt would work, but then I still have the problem of thickness and fitting through the small belt loops on most of my shorts.

    I would love :D any suggestions !!!!!

    Tye
