Toni System may be working on one...

They've been working on it for a couple of years now. If when I finally get around to installing the racker it's available, and they're able to ship to where I am, wonderful. But for now, I'll just keep the steel one Joe recommended in mind, since I can have it and fit it right now.

  2. If anyone finds out what Beretta magwell works with the Taylor Freelance extensions, I would appreciate it if you post your results here. I'd like to try out the +9 versions for a 92A1 I'm kitting out for Open, and if they can be paired up with a magwell, that would just be wonderful.

Good luck.  When I was building my Sig P320 open gun I couldn’t find one that would replace the rear sight…I ended up having to get one for a 1911 and manually cut it down to fit. https://www.shootersconnectionstore.com/Gun-Parts/1911-2011-Pistols/Thumb-Rest-Slide-Rackers/Double-Tap-Sports-Slide-Racker-

before that on which is all steel I did the same thing from a cz slide rack but after cutting it, it would hold up for so long before it broke.   The steel one works a lot better

I thought I was gonna have to do some fitting to get one, but it never hurts to ask, right? Thanks for the advice on the steel part, I'll get one of the curved ones and see how I can make it fit on the dovetail rear.

  4. It's exactly as the name implies. I have a Beretta, specifically a 92A1, and an Aimpoint PRO I'm not using, and I'm going to put them together into an Open gun. Is there any slide racker that anyone knows about that can fit into where the rear sight is? Or should I just leave it alone? Any suggestions are welcome.

  5. People in this forum usually swap out barrels either because they want better accuracy via a gunsmith-fit barrel, or because they want to compete in different divisions. I don't think I've ever seen any evidence of an M&P barrel ever wearing out anywhere. I've seen at least one report of a frame breaking after hitting north of 10K rounds, but never the barrels.

EDIT: I can't even find the article I found of the M&P failure after 10K from years back.

    Good Evening,

I did not start competitively shooting until I was 31 years old and I am now 33.  I got to ask, will I ever be competitive at all? Realistically, I’m not going to ever compete for a top spot at Nationals, but I would like to someday make M or GM.

I am only a B class in CO, and C in Limited. I plan to stay in Limited though.

    Am I too old?

I started going to matches regularly at 33, but want to pick up the sport more seriously now at 35. Seeing all these replies makes me feel good about it. It should make you feel good about it too.

What is everyone’s experience with the tungsten guide rods? A noticeable difference? Carver custom states “Test results show an average of 60% reduction in muzzle rise” with their tungsten guide rod… Sounds like that could be some funny numbering in the testing as muzzle rise has a direct correlation to grip pressure, wrist angle, wrist strength etc. Just curious if others have found them to be beneficial.

In my experience, yes. The extra weight does help with perceived recoil, as would adding weight to a firearm as light as an M&P. It can also mess with your transitions if you're used to doing them with the nonexistent weight, since the tungsten guide rod will throw off the balance of your gun forward. But none of it is as massive as the percentage suggests. It's just a small part that, when added with more small parts like your own training and other modifications to the pistol can end up making an overall big difference.

I used to think $5k was a lot to spend on a custom Open gun.  That was until I built two myself.  I bought all first rate parts and I'm North of $4k, including about $950 worth of machining.  That does not include finishing.

This. Even if you're adding the parts yourself and looking for sales, coupons, and deals, the price will add up between everything to get it exactly how you want. Might be a little less if you're looking at a Limited gun vs. Open, but the wallets starts to burn regardless.

This. It’s the easiest modification that is sure to remedy the situation. The ultra-bulky SRO is overrated in my opinion.

I was thinking that as well. I've had brass hit my RMR when using garbage ammo like Tula, but the other malfunctions are just odd to me.

I'd also try to just shoot .40 and see if the problem still persists. I've never trusted conversion kits to be all that reliable.

Hello all, I was in the FB Group previously but have left that platform, so here I am!  Been Reloading for about 8 years now and learning every day.  Now just need primers!!!  Glad to be here.

Excellent decision. You're gonna see your stress levels go down dramatically. Also, welcome.

I don’t think the future of the sport is in jeopardy. Been around since forever with only a small number of injuries or fatalities.

I feel much safer at matches than I do at a public range.

I can agree with feeling safer in a match than in the public range. If I seem like I'm worrying over nothing, I apologize, but this is the first time I hear about an incident like this happening since I've been following this sport and its disciplines.

  12. I went to an IDPA match in July to try to get back into the swing of competition shooting, and my club does follow the IDPA rules. It's the local discipline and Steel Challenge matches that go into outlaw territory as far as rule enforcement and gear checks go, at least until we get to Championship season. I'm okay with it, since I go to these matches for fun and to get actual use out of my firearms, but it is something to keep in mind if I ever want to get more serious about my competitive shooting.

I should've peeked into this thread when I was choosing my magwell. I went with the Carver Custom, and it's fine, but it's aluminum, and my M&P is only weighting in at about 33 oz, even with a tungsten guide rod. This would easily get it closer to the 40 oz. I was shooting for. Oh well, I'll keep it in mind for a future build.
