    Cuz - I do not chrono my guns - do not need to for steel challenge and do not have a facility do it at the moment - sorry.  It was fairly simple to swap out the pieces. I followed Tim's advice and soaked the Ruger receiver in the oven for 1/2 hour at 350 degrees to loosen the screws and it worked perfectly.  I did have to shave the bolt hold open lever to get it to fit correctly - but that was simple with a Dremel tool.  Went to work today at Shoot Point Blank and after work gave it a run on our range. Run 10 strings of 5 shots at my practice target at 15 yards. My first 5 were sight in and produced a 1-inch hole leaning against the lane wall for support only.  Enough accuracy for my needs!  The gun ran 100% with no issues on factory 115 ammo.  I tried some low power factor hand loads with CCI 41 primers and to the previous issue with the Ruger not having enough firing pin power to fire the hard primers, it did not change. I will have to run pistol primers in the Ruger.

    The gun weighs 5.48 lbs. on my scale with Up-riser chasse, MFT stock and mil spec buffer tube, Taccom barrel assembly, Taccom G-10 lightweight hand guard and Vortex Venom with UTG co-witness riser.  The gun moves very fast with most of the weight centered between the hands compared to the  heavy stock Ruger barrel.  Maybe Tim will build a chasse similar to the 10/22 chasse for the PC???????

    I am pleased enough with the gun to give it a run at a SC match this weekend - will let you know how it went!

    awesome! any chance we can get a photo of your setup? sounds like a nice rig!

  2. Does anyone know of a way to get a heavier trigger return spring for the PC Carbine? The reset on my trigger is way to weak for my liking. I'm used to the triggers in my AR's that literally push my finger back on reset. The PC Carbine is so weak I sometimes find myself out running the trigger reset. I'm not really worried about the trigger pull weight, I just want a nice tactile trigger with a noticeable, firm reset. Thanks for any help,

    Recently I had to remove my TG9 trigger.   I started to get burst fires with multiple ammo PF loads  ( soft / medium / factory ).     I like the trigger ( despite overall weight ) over the stock, but it consistently started to give bursts of 2-4 shots.

    I probably have 7000 rounds through it.

    That's disappointing to hear! They recently released a target hammer kit for the pc carbine that i'm considering giving a try. much cheaper than the TG9

    I took a Ruger BX trigger for the 10/22 and installed them in the PC trigger housing.  Then I used a Pike blue aluminum trigger rather than the polymer one from the BX.  Trigger pull is about 2.5 lbs.

    That's awesome. have you been able to put a lot of rounds through it? been reliable?

  5. So I reached out to Brimstone to see if they planned to do trigger work for the PC Carbine since they're so well known for their 10/22 work and this is what they said:

    "We have put that on the back burner currently with the generational differences. It is on the list when we get to it tho."

    I wonder what they mean by generational differences? To my knowledge, all the different versions of the PC carbine have the same trigger group. Am I wrong?

    The original  ruger stock surprised me;  not that much heavier.  I took out the glock mag adapter;

    Since I was into it.  I weighed the stock ruger trigger + mcarbo spring / trigger = 3.6oz;   Volquartsen tg9 = 6.4oz;

    Nice! good info, i'd like to see Volquarsten come out with something similar to their HP action kit for the 10/22 but for the PC Carbine. That would probably keep the weight of the factory trigger group well getting better performance. I actually wrote them about that earlier today. This is what they said.

    Hi Jordan,

    We have looked at offering just the individual components and encountered functioning issues when we tried that.  We are going to continue to work on this and hopefully in the near future will have something available."

    so hopefully soon, once they get the bugs worked out.

    At less than 1lb  this seems like a good option to replicate the minimalist 10/22 stocks;      Not cheap and not yet available;

    Maybe but i wonder if it would still be to heavy? It looks a lot like the midwest industries chassis which i found to be a little heavy and bulky.

    I'm still really interested to see what Tandemkross does with their upriser chassis. I'd like to see someone make one out of polymer or something like that.

    I used Wiland to perform the custom work.   $150 using my barrel.   Unfortunately you could buy a whole AR 9mm barrel for this price, but I'm happy with the results.

    I have grown to like the modshot palm swell very much.  Consistent with my 10/22 ultralight build.

    I also recently put in a volquartsen TG9 drop in trigger.  Nothing bad to say.  It is a bit heavier given made out of billet AL than the stock plastic housing.   I have to weigh the 2 side by side.

    Not sure it is worth the price of the trigger.  I really wish KIDD would make one.   The kidd single stage in my 10/22 is perfect.    I did contact Kidd, but they are not interested at this time.

    Frankly, I am waiting for the tandemkross upriser stock to come out.

    I covered the taccom hand guard in carbon fiber wrap ( same stuff used for cars ).   Looks better on the gun than it does in the pic, but I didn't have on of it mounted.

    Still a really cool project. do you have any more photos of the whole gun with that modshot palm swell? the one you had posted is pretty close up.

    I'm very interested in the TG9 trigger but i've read a lot of similar reports saying that they're not sure if it is worth the price. Would be cool if more companies came out with some trigger upgrades. I recently reached out to Brimestone Gunsmithing to see if they would do anything for the PC carbine, their 10/22 trigger job is pretty awesome and they are local to me, waiting to hear back from them.

    I think the Tandemkross stock looks interesting. waiting to see the specs and how much it weighs. I have already tried the midwest industries chassis but wound up selling it because it was to heave and bulky. Would be cool to see a lightweight polymer chassis system for the pc carbine. I am thinking the Magpul backpacker stock looks like a good option too.

    Waiting for the MagPul stock...that with the TacCom hand guard should be a good set up ...more of a pistol type grip & adjustable comb, should also be lighter than stock since it's hollow for storing extra mag.

    That's funny you bring this up i was just thinking that would be a great setup. i actually have the Taccom3g handguard ordered, should be here tomorrow. You'd think the magpul stock would be at least a little bit lighter. I agree the angle of the grip should be nicer too. I'll probably wind up getting the magpul stock once it comes out.

  10. I'm not the best video producer despite being a software nerd.   I'll try and make a video showing the reset and overtravel via dryfire;    Overall the trigger is very good.  Not as good as my Kidd one stage, but I haven't yet adjusted pre-travel.   The post travel was perfect out of the box.   I also don't have a trigger gauge, but given my kidd is 1.75 and my open gun is 2.25, this is probably 2.25 - 2.5lbs pull;

    I think the factory stock is holding me back at this point in terms of hand position for trigger.

    The way I justified the cost is it is about equal to 1000 rounds of ammo.
    A video would be great if you get time [emoji106]

    All about your goals.   If you are going to compete with the rifle in SCSA or USPSA then trigger is usually one of the first upgrades.   Most spend $200 for a trigger on a 10/22 in competition for a gun that costs $250.     😐

    that's true. That makes $240 for the volquarsten trigger on a $500 pc carbine not that bad. I wish there were more reviews out on the Volquarsten trigger. I've read some guys like it but some think it's not worth it. I havent seen any Youtube videos on it yet.

    I installed a Hornet trigger on a Ruger 10/22 several years ago.  It was a significant improvement over the OEM trigger but not nearly as good as the Brimstone Tier 2 trigger I have on my current 10/22.   So, Hornet does sell decent triggers but not wonderful.

    That's good to know. To be honest i actually dont mind the factory trigger, i just wish it had a shorter reset and a little bit more tactile feel to it. it's a little to soft/mushy for me.

    I have one of the early ones and the extractor will begin to fail a couple thousand rounds (stove pipes)I replaced it with the Mcarbo exact edge extractor and it solved the problem.

    i just recently swapped my extractor for the exact edge from Mcarbo. I was surprised at the difference between it and the factory piece. definitely looks to be a big improvement.

    Hey Jordan, the physical trigger itself could be changed out because of its geometry - but the guts seem overpriced.  Standard trigger job means smoothing and polishing the sear/hammer contact.  This is NOT something I recommend to try if you don't have experience gunsmithing because it can create a dangerous situation.  To learn more about this concept, you can Youtube 1911 trigger jobs - there are tons of videos explaining this.

    Cool i'll check that out. because mine is just a plinker right now i probably wont mess with the internals of the trigger to much. I did change the trigger shoe for the Mcarbo version though and i do like the flatter trigger face better. it did come with a screw that i had to adjust on the trigger shoe itself for over travel. mine now stops right after the trigger breaks. I wish there was a way to shorten the reset though. that's my biggest complaint with the factory trigger.

    Folks - just got one of the new Ruger PC carbines for PCC - a few initial impressions:

    -Super front end heavy - will probably be much better after replacing the CF handguard

    -Trigger is a gritty 4.5 stock - installed the MCARBO trigger kit which took it down to a still gritty 3lbs - very not impressed with their product.  Standard trigger job tuning brought it down to a crisp 2.5

    -Trigger has significant overtravel - you can take that out with a hodgepodge spacer pretty easily

    -Also installed MCARBO recoil buffer and spring - also very unimpresssive - I'm shooting 130 PF 147 loads and there's literally no difference in feel.  Save your money and just buy replacement recoil springs and cut coils to fit your load

    -Very accurate, chrony is simliar to 16" AR barrels

    -Very good value for PCC and I actually like the feel more several highly customized AR9 builds

    -Send your questions - I'll post pics once I get it fully setup

    did you consider the mcarbo or tandemkross trigger? I believe they both have a screw built in to adjust over travel?

    Also, i'm very new to all of this, what did you do with your "standard trigger job" to get it down to 2.5lb?

    thank you!
