Wayne, my EVO Pro is on order, and I’ve got a shopping cart with your dies in it. Question - What sensor port does your smart decap use? I’ve only been able to look at the manual for the Evo, so it’s not clear whether or what port to use for it if using the full Monty of other Mark 7 sensors.
remote stop port.

I have the digital PM from Mark 7. It is good. Is it worth the price? Not for what I need. I personally love the Hornady PM. Easy to setup. Only problem I have with Hornady are the moving parts. Make sure they are tightened. I have had those little bolts/nuts loosen. If I didn’t have a powder check die, I may not have noticed in time.
I can’t say if the mechanical PM from M7 is any better but I suspect it isn’t any better accuracy wise. There are definitely pros/cons to both. I would recommend buying the Hornady first. If it works for you, order more of the die only. You don’t need a dedicated Hopper for each caliber. It would be a huge waste IMO - and super bulky to store.
I am just used the Hornady to run 9mm and 45acp on my Revo. Good stuff.
can i ask why you find the digital not worth it, i been seriously considering based on the data people post in the m7 facebook group to biting the bullet on the digital. currently have 2 mechanical.

so converting and staying same primer size, i.e. small pistol to small rifle. is easy. 1 bolt for the tool head, loosen 4 remove the spring, loosen 4 for the shell plate hold down, pull shell plate up, change case feeder arm, re-assemble change case feeder plate .... 15 minutes max since you will be also lubing and cleaning the machine a bit if you are disassembling a bit.
i have not down a primer conversion yet, when i installed my primer orientation sensor i had access to the primer system, and from just looking it over it didn't seem overly complex, but if you join the mark 7 group on facebook i am sure there is a video on the conversion

what is the new priming system?
In the general discussion someone put a image up. It’s smaller then the current for 500 bucks

Was told the new trimmer and primer system are just due by the end of the year now. I think they've had supplier delays.
Was told they'd get the Lyman Pro Dies back in stock in July.
Been waiting on my .223s forever

Is the new primer system up on their website? I tried to find it on the site but did not see it.
Email misty it was up for pre order 11 total. Not sure what’s left

This is turning out to be a trip down the rabbit hole I’m not going down anytime soon. Now I see why nobody really casts around here.
I do have to say we sure are getting one hell of a deal on coated bullets. I for one had to load 25 boxes to a truck once , my shooters elbow let me know it’s displeasure loud and clear. Doing what 50-100 boxes a day? That’s a tough way to make a living. An Aussie revo shooter I’ve met owns a bullet company in Perth and his knee is going and his back needs surgery.
I don't have 12.5K to drop on a Mark 8, but we all saw it with Covid, and now the Protests, and the who knows whats going to happen come November, clearly states think they can stop online ammo ordering, which means Local shops (who love infringing because it means more money in their pockets) jack up prices. Having the ability to create the projectile maybe MORE then worthwhile in the not so distant future.

There's nothing wrong with that way, but it won't last 30 years. Maybe run it 24/7 for 5 years?
oh i wont run it 24/7 ever just to figure out how much material plus machine cost is per bullet. if 12.5K and it can only last 5 years at 24/7 thats low quality machine work.

I would depreciate the machine over 10 years or less and I doubt your running it 24/7. Will you even run it an hour every day?
I would run it based on what you actually think the rate you'll be running it at, otherwise you're diluting your numbers.
Other method is to depreciate it based on total estimates hours of life to come up with a per bullet rate.
If I had access to free lead I would cast my own, but I don't so I buy instead.
was just was easy to do 24/7 cause then you get the per bullet method. hourly will be a better method

I went 28 years without buying bullets. When I started reloading box of 50 38 special cost me .35 cents. When primers started going for 25.00 a 5000 we thought the world was coming to an end. I do love that young mans math if it only worked like that it would be great.
Lol I mean formula wise it should work like my math

At least with casting there is little waste, first 10-20K go right back into the pot to be melted back down.

You were talking a pallet so https://www.rotometals.com/pallet-hardball-bullet-alloy-ingots-1000-pounds-freight-included-2-tin-6-antimony-and-92-lead/
then I just went to a coated bullet vender did not add any discount codes etc https://www.snscasting.com/cart.php yes they have a discount on large orders
i can redo my calcs on pallet ordering, it was easier to do it based on bullet quantity and work that way but yeah ordering that pallet above your CPR that i did would go down

Never thought of it that way. Running the math, it looks like that's a little over 600 lbs of bullets vs the 1000lb pallets of lead. That doesn't factor in the cost of equipment or the effort it takes.
For me I've looked into casting before and it wasn't worth the time or equipment. I used to cast my own fishing jigs so I thought I would look into bullets but there's a lot more too it. Would rather just buy way more bullets at a time then get I to casting.
10 hours ago, AHI said:FYI you can buy 34 thousand 124 gr coated bullets for what a pallet of bullet alloy will caust you.
and you still have to cast ,coat , size.
anyone feel free to correct my math if I am off here...
36K 125 Grain from Blue Bullets = 2,187 using the 10to50 discount code. unsure what shipping would tack on.
to cast the same amount we need 36K x 125 Grains = 450,000 Grains of Lead Needed
Divide that by 7,000 Grains per pound, = 643 Pounds of Lead needed. Lyman Number 2 is sold 5 Pounds Increments on Rotometals = 129 needed
Lead Cost Alone = 2,229
if you use a cheaper lead, Hardball = 2%-Tin,6%-Antimony,and 92%-Lead the cost for the same 643 pounds needed to cast 36K = 1,903
TLDR
Blue Bullets = .06075
Lyman #2 = .06197
Hardball Lead = .05286
Bottom two we need to remember to depreciate our machine cost into the price per, assume 30 year straight line.
Edit #1 -->
I did the depreciation math, here we go
Magma Mark 8 Casts 5,000 per hour. Run that 24 hours a day = 120,000 Bullets a day
Every day for a year = 43,800,000
machine cost = 12,500 / 30 = 417 dollars of depreciation per year
each bullet depreciates the machine 0.00000951
adding that in to our bottom two from above
Lyman #2 CPR = 0.06197951294
Hardball CPR = 0.05286951294

This is getting rather complicated. I admit I’m kinda overwhelmed and need to spend some time on it. Castboolits isn’t great for a newb.
for those who cast larger volumes are there automated sizing machines? Probably going hitek, I even buy MEK buy the drum so that makes life easier.
and how do you buy/how much is 1000-2000lbs of Lead? Between the 2 of us I use ~1150lbs per year. I’ve looked at lead from 1-2 guys on kijiji but I’m paying more in lead than I can get finished bullets for.
I have storage room and a recently overhauled forklift so that helps for commercial buying, wheel weights isn’t a viable option.
Roto metals sells wholesale pallets of lead

You may wont to research a source of lead. Then you need to size and lube.
How are you going to lube or are you going to coat ? Sugest you spend a lot of time
on the cast bullet sight .
id powder coat,
sizing ive seen people working on automating the Lee APP, now that would be a combo with a bullet feeder

My interest in piqued! I have a 5000sq’ shop so lots of room.
I’m assuming it would be possible to automate the $1100 machine? Time for some research.
all the pics on cast boolits and the youtube videos look cool

Yes, he sells a system.. not cheap but worth it.
Interesting looks like 1100 bucks I’ll see about hitting him up

only worth it if you plan to automate or you have trouble with shoulders or elbows making hand casting difficult. You can cast faster with 5 or 6 cavity Molds. My elbows aren’t great. Thus I automated my casting and my reloading.
if you want to automate, contact Hatch at castboolits. I have his system. It is sweet.
Plenty of used molds for sale relatively cheap. Same molds used by the 8 mold system magma makes for cast bullet manufacturers.
He automated the master caster? I can’t create a cast boolits account their captcha is unreadable lol

Now more than ever, reloading supplies keep coming in, except the darn bullets I need lol down to my last 3000. I've dialed in in Dillon powder measure on my new MK 7 and use my case feeder and bullet feeder too. So my manual set up was only in the 2K range, that is the cost of a new 1100. Don't get me wrong I like my 1050, but the extra stations and the quality is sure nice to have.
I’m calling magma engineering tomorrow about a master caster. I’ll cast my own projectiles

Wow..... $9,000 for a fully auto-loading machine and $6,000 for a manual one. That's for a serious shooter with a lot of money.
If you live in a state that has background checks for ammo and no online sales this becomes worth it instantly

anyone notice the powder check sensor is essentially only useful for a no charge with pistol powders?
It’s essentially a no charge or double charge aid.
Idk anything out there outside of manual weighing that can be digital and get ya .1 off alerts

If you can adjust the powder throw from the tablet on an evolution. Take my money.
You can’t. She misspoke we confirmed this

what press are you running? I have an evo pro and the mark 7 9 MM shellplates don't even allow an insertion of a .380 to the press
