I don't get the AA7/SWMP is dirty remarks.  I use it and it is clean as a whistle.  I load 10.2gr under a 115 HAP @ 1.161" OAL.  169 PF with SDs in the 5 and 6 range.  I've gone up to 10.8gr while testing.  I didn't chrono those loads.  They were definitely softer, flatter and louder than the 10.2 loads.  The reason I stay with 10.2 is I get no spillage when the shell plate turns.  I get a little at 10.4, and a little more at 10.6.  10.8 gets a little messy.  It's still less messy than 9.4gr 3N38.  That stuff just jumps out of the case.

You're brave, I was spilling 9grn all over the place for 9major!

  2. I just went the Everglades route from a DAA race master, world of difference better ! Just waiting for the thigh pad to come into stock.

Everglades MRH is and has been flawless. Glad I went this route. You won't be disappointed. The magnets on the MRH would leave "scuff" marks on the dust cover, so I put rubber shrink tubing on the rollers and its perfect.

Steveac1, do you have a picture of your shrink tube job ?

  3. For 9major, 124jhp

3n38, Aa7, Hs-6, Silhouette, and surprisingly SW autopistol

For me, 3n38 is the cleanest, Hs-6 dirtiest

    Felt recoil pulse

    1. 3n38, HS-6 (softie/best)

    2. Aa7/SWMP (I had the bad "115" lot of major pistol)

    3. Silhouette/Autopistol

  4. Agreed, you really need to try them all unfortunately. I've tried 3n38, hs-6, Silhouette, aa7, SWMP, SW autopistol, still not settled on a powder 😮💨

For me I don't think 3n38 is all that it's cracked up to be, especially for the price.

I think Hs6 has the softest recoil for me, but the dirtiest. (Dot gets gummed up quickly)

SWMP and aa7 are a close 2nd, but like Chicago, I got the leftover "cornmeal" unburnt powder

Sil and Autopistol aren't terrible, kinda like them, different.

    Cfe is horrible, lol

But that's my opinion, could mean something completely different for everyone else.

But I thought n350 was a faster powder, compared to sportpistol/cleanshot/titgroup, those wouldn't work your comp very well

File the bottom of the barrel feed ramp flat so its even with the frame when the barrel is in the "Down & Back" position sitting in the frame. Doing this will also minimize the chance of the bottom edge of the ramp gouging into the tip of the next bullet in the magazine. To me this is barrel fitting 101 that a competent gunsmith should already know and setup properly from the start."

So I'm a victim of the mbx mag being dented by my barrel.

Does anyone have a picture of a "fixed" barrel fitting as an example so i can compare (before I possibly ruin my barrel)?

    TIA

  6. So I've contacted 2 buddies with opens, 1 has Centered mounts, and the other Left of bore mount.

Both guys are really good shooters and Left guy never noticed his mount til I asked him.

Is it worth milling the mount? At what distance would the accuracy really suffer (strictly for USPSA use).

My smith doesnt/didn't mil the mount, and I know I'm definitely not the first or last to order from him, should I just leave it?

I'm wondering if using a single-sided mount that centers the optic in-line with the bore on a regular width frame, such as the Everglades mount, would still do so if used with a CGW XWF Heavy Open frame.

I can see via the description and pictures that the XWF Heavy Open frame has a recessed area where the 5x mounting holes are, but i'm unsure how deep the recession are cut and if it would mimic that of a regular width frame.

Anyone running a XWF Heavy Open frame that would be able to comment on if they were able to center an Everglades or similar mount over the bore?

Is this what you are talking about? My mount is to the left of center, don't like it (brand new gun). My smith said that's how it is.

Okay, so I am looking at getting another open gun. I know this is an overdone topic but after scrolling to page 22 and reading all relevant articles I have decided to ask the age old question: If you were in the market for an open gun today, who would you be looking at? I will just say that I do not have the time, patience, or equipment to build my own so that is off the table. I currently own Infinity and Akai Limited guns as well as some others. I am making the switch to Open at least for the season. I really like Infinity guns, just trying to decide if I want to spend Infinity money on an open gun. What are your opinions out there?

    Check out Carne Custom.

I also use the MBF funnel/expander, but set it to run shallow.  There is no flare, and none is needed.  Bullets drop in and stay put.  Final crimp with the Lee FCD.  Zero setback.

I was using the MBF, but I needed something diff/better for my coated 9 minor stuff. I've read Lee FCD is not a good idea for coated.

I trt process my brass first, I wonder if it's worth it running the FCD w/o crimp on the processing run??

I think you are expanding the case way too deep. On my 1100, I’m using an FW Arms auto-centering Swage foot die that holds the case in place without expand the case mouth. The case is then flared to accept the 124 JHP from PD using the MBF powder funnel. Doing it this way allows for no bullet setback on my reloaded ammo.

Additionally, I also use a Lee U-Die, Redding comp seating due and Lee FCD.

I hope not as I did back the dillon die out.

I could try my FW swage die (it's on my processing head) but I'll have to verify the NOE plug will work with sized brass. (As the dillon swage die would start a flare)

  11. I know this has been covered before however I've searched for "NOE expander plugs" and found nothing.

I'm concerned with my 9major load and some setback. I'm not getting crazy setback, but some in the high thousands.

    Mix range brass, rollsized

    PD 124 JHP

    1.165-1.17" OAL

    Currently setup on my 1050;

    *Lee U-die

*Dillon 1050 Swage Backup / Expander

*NOE expander plug @.355" (also have a .356")

    *shooting innovations powder drop

    *MBF dropper

    *Redding Comp seat

    *Lee taper

I found that when i backed the dillon swag out so that it supports the brass during swagging (but not expanding) it helps (low thousands). Also the powder drop I have backed out not to do a whole lot of expanding and basically trust the NOE to take the grunt work.

So back to the question, am I running one too many "expanding" options ?

    For my coated 9 minor, I running everything "normal";

    *Dillon swag die down

    *NOE .358" (running .357" projectiles for a shadow2)

    Thanks,

    Jason

Morning, all. I'm looking to eventually move into open division and I'm looking to get some powder recommendations. I've spoken to a few shooters at my local club, but due to the current shortages, I'd like to get some additional recommendations. When I get everything set up, I'll be switching my Honcho over to the 9mm open configuration, and I'll be shooting 125 gr JHP. I know it's a tall order, but I'm looking for a powder that: a) isn't overly temperature sensitive, b) won't fill up the case too high, c) is easy to load in my Dillon 750, d) shoots clean, and e) isn't too snappy.

Recommendations that I've gotten so far are N340, N350, and Autocomp. If there is anything else that fits my bill, I'd love to hear it. Powder is getting hard to find now too...

    Thanks in advance!

Where are you with load testing? How goes it?

  13. "Good Morning Jason,

Hope you are doing well. Oh no, don’t be sorry. I was expecting a backlash from the lack of communication. I don’t suppose you tell your customers this  but I feel that you are a sensible man and you would understand.

We lost 2 key people at a time when we have massive orders coming in. Our senior and most trusted guy left for Houston to be with his family and the other got the virus and decided to stay at home indefinitely. We had to regroup and look for good workers - immediately. Took a while but we found our new team. Alex, our team captain, happens to be an essential worker as he is a Field Service Engineer for Abbott Laboratories (the man has a day job) he is in hospitals everyday so I ended up with the responsibility of being the new “tail twister.” As the orders continued to pour,  I made a conscious decision of focusing on more production so I spent my time training the guys well and keeping a close eye on them instead of answering emails as I figured it would be a bigger problem if we did not have anything to give to customers. May be a bad decision for some but that is what happened. Now that my guys are independent and production is on point, I can do damage control. As you can see I am answering emails at 3:30am, which is insane, if you ask me.

I want to thank you personally for listening and one again, I apologize for not communicating on time.  Stay Safe.

    Best regards,

    Jivette Salazar"

This was back in October 2020, ibejiheads completed my order (it did take awhile, covid crap), thou coms was a little lacking, id order from them again.

Mark built my 9 major at the end of 2018. The process to get this started was easier than I thought it was gunna be. I sent him my wish list on parts, he built the gun. The gun has been fantastic, zero issues...and it hasn't been a safe queen. I get a lot of questions about it due to people thinking it's "more name brand". I ran it side by side with a limcat and I like my Carne better.

Hows your open gun doing ?
