I have an S3 on order which along with the liquid grip should be great for my nasty sweaty hands in the summer haha but I have such thick calluses from other stuff I do, still I expect it’s gonna hurt a bit but they say that’s how it feels when weakness leaves your body lololol

Haha, to be honest I had the S3 for about a week and it wasnt as bad as I thought it would be, and I don't have super rough hands. I could feel it after a long practice session though.

This is awesome because those other grips will grind your hands like a cheese grater

Since that post, MPA has come out with the S3 grip which is definitely cheesegrater material :) Apparently enough people asked for it. I use the S2 and with some liquid grip its plenty.

  3. I fear the day I get burnt out from all the practice and other time sinks from this sport. Doesn't help that you get enjoyment from doing well, and without putting in all that extra effort sometimes it's hard to keep winning. Try shooting a couple matches with no expectations on performance or placements, just go out there and have fun.

  4. I do it but I've been wondering the same. The problem I think is when you use the same media/tumbler that you clean dirty brass with, which I was doing for a while. Now I only tumble loaded rounds in my small frankford arsenal tumbler, and leave my brass cleaning to the dillon.

My lead level this year was like a 22, only a few down from 26 last year. Was not happy about that, so been trying to be extra careful this year.

  5. I chronoed a few rounds of black dot through my MPA and it was kinda hot at 175-178pf... not sure what was up with that, maybe my chrono was just being crazy those days.

Outdoor dynamics worked with MPA to develop that load so it's going to chrono right around 172pf.

  6. It's tough to beat the MPA DS9 for value. Custom gun with most parts built in house for around $4500. There are a few other options in that price range but they're mass produced. Some local gunsmiths might have a similar deal as well, but again you'll be buying parts and they'll be fitting them. Nothing really wrong with that though if it works it works.

  7. Everybody swears by the Everglades, if you are starting back up again I would just go that route. I didn't love certain aspects of it but I'm so used to my DAA Alpha X that I don't want to switch at this point.

I don't recommend the DAA flex. I returned mine. Doesn't seem finished, and due to its design it doesn't sit as low as the alpha X. Plus paying $50 for an insert is much easier than spending 5-15 minutes reconfiguring your holster every time you want to swap.

  8. I use the R3xl but I have backups. I've sent multiple of them back. Thankfully the warranty is fantastic, and shipping is free.

I've had to send a couple RTS2 back as well, and while the company is great the shipping is not free.

I love the R3xl, biggest window and the cleanest dot. The RTS2 dot is much bigger/starbursty than the R3xl for the same moa.

This is 100% with Venom custom guns to be fair. I'm very meticulous with cleaning. All my open guns are cleaned after every practice session and match. Most guns never went more than 250-500 rounds or so before cleaning.

I pretty much exclusively shoot 7.0-7.2 (Depending on batch of powder and gun set up) of Autocomp under a 124 PD JHP (V1). PF is about 171-174 depending on the specific gun set up. Ive tested every powder and bullet combo under the sun and always seem to come back to that load. (Acceptable Gas Created, Ease of loading on an automated press, cleanish, and available.) I also am a bigger guy with a strong grip. I dont need as much gas as others to keep the gun flat.

This is using full size bull barrel guns (Vertical and v porting on different guns), middy hybrids, and shorty hybrids.

Over 10 years of open, the only parts I have not broken are... Grips, Frames, triggers, disco/sear/leaf spring, and red dot mount. Everything else I've broken at least one of. With open being the F1 of pistol shooting... you will see some wild stuff if you play the game long enough. I have quite an interesting photo collection of broken open guns.

Dang thats impressive. I got some grief for using WAC from some previous gunsmiths. I stopped using it but never really bought that that was an issue.

I have almost 3000 dollars to spend on a pistol, and I'm obsessing over the DS9 Hybrid. However, the steel grip version is 600 dollars more than the aluminum version. is the steel really worth a 600 dollar difference?

Curious to see what you decided on? The stainless steel grip is well worth the upgrade, and you will definitely notice a difference. But the aluminum grip guns shoot very well already.

It should flat out run on any length ammo and decent mag. 9mm is easy to get running. I would worry about it being finicky and liking only a certain length ammo.

I can run 1.2" oal out of my ds9 opens no problem. And that's just the longest I tested because I know I'll never load that long. I think that guy said later in this thread that it was a mag issue, which ime across multiple platforms staccato mags either run in your gun or they don't. If you put 3rd party guts or a basepad on them your chances drop even further. There's a reason people spend over a hundred dollar premium per mag to go mbx.

  12. I used to have massive problems with the afternoon slump right around 12pm at day-long matches. Like it would feel like i was half asleep during the stage, or moving through molasses.

Heres what helped the most, other than drinking a bottle of water at every stage:

Have your normal breakfast, whatever it is. And then starting with stage 2, have a few nibbles of a sweet fruit every single stage. I normally bring pineapple and watermelon chunks, and have around 3 pieces when I get to each stage. Just enough to keep you not hungry, but not enough to make you full. Those fruits also have a ton of water content for added benefit. No more afternoon slump for me.
