Last year at a 2-gun match, I was shooting a day early with the other RO's. We're on a blind stage, you have to turn right and go through some barricades, but we've had no issues. One of the older guys is running the timer and tells me to make ready. So I load a mag and chamber a round, and then two of the other RO's come around the corner down range, maybe ten feet in front of me. I quickly holstered, put my hands up and called the MD over. (He was on our squad too.) I explained what happened, and he told the guy not to do it again, and the old guy says something like, 'But this is taking forever!'
Three stages later, I finish resetting a double texas star and I'm coming back up the bay with two other guys, and there stands this old dude with a timer in his hand, and one of the other shooters in the process of making ready. I left at that point and refuse to this day to even be on the same bay as that guy.

I took a tactical class one time from a guy who has been in more wars than the US over the last 50 years, and he taught a thumbs up grip style. The ideas was that you could rotate the left hand back, and the right hand forward to get a kind of twist lock on the gun. It's very much not in fashion, but it can work for some people. For strong hand shooting, he advocated sticking your thumb up, canting the gun toward it, and using your thumb as an something to push the gun into.
I shot thumbs-up for many years, and had great success with it. I recently went back to a more traditional grip, but I still stick my thumb up for strong hand and weak hand shooting, as it gives me better control and accuracy. Try it out. Maybe it's just what you need.

We don't have a direct flight to Vegas anymore, which means two flights or a 12 hour drive. Could use a break from the cold though! I'll keep it in mind.

There are times when you have a large stage and/or lots of props with multiple people pasting targets. In these situations, I like to go to a place where I can observe everyone and be the last one to head back. That way I make sure there isn't anyone left at the "load and make ready".
I'm not sure that can be stressed enough. At a multigun match last year, shooting with the staff and taking turns as RO for each other, one of the guys got in a hurry and had me load and make ready. I inserted a mag, and as I was doing a press check, two guys came walking around a blind corner 20' in front of me. Happened again, later in the day with the same RO on a different stage, but it was me downrange. He still doesn't understand why I was so upset, or why I refused to paste targets while he ran the timer.

The VR80 is an interesting shotgun. I've been working on mine for a few months now. I think it has the potential to run with the Dissidents, but the nice thing about the Dissident is it's ready to go to a match the day it shows up. My VR80 is just starting to get reliable after a lot of tweaking. I did not buy mine from T&N though, although they do make great mags.

I just finished rolling about 10k pieces of nickel brass and checked it for you. Zero damage to the machine.

I'm actually starting to consider it. There is a very active ICORE club a few hours North of me. They shoot all year, when USPSA is shut down eight months at a time.

They no longer make most of their competition guns, as has been mentioned, modifying them for competition is voiding warranties. And if you have a problem, warranty work is taking forever. They used to be the go-to entry level 2011, now you're better served looking at CK or Bul armory.

I carry one Goliath, which starts in the gun, and two regular old G17 mags with +5 Taylor Freelance baseplates on my belt. If there is a mandatory reload involved, I switch the Goliath to a standard 33 round mag, I don't like dropping the Goliath.
Really looking forward to these new Magpul drums. I predict they will be the thing to have this summer, and will quickly become much more common than the goliath.

Don't be disappointed in your performance at your first match. Everyone starts somewhere. You learned a lot of valuable lessons, and it'll go better next time.

Don't be afraid to ask the shooter which way they're going, if there are options. You don't want to be in a collision and cause a reshoot.
And do not let overbearing people tell you how to RO your stage. I had a guy last year insist that if the paper tore around his bullet, it was a hit to the edge of the tear, so his C zone hits were Alphas. He's been an RO since before I was born, and immediately went to shouting when I disagreed. It's important to know when to stand your ground and get the RM involved.

The current holster I've been using is the Double Alpha PDR PRO-II. Its a great holster for Production and SS but I just feel the drop offset will end up getting in the way.
It might be worth exploring just changing your mounting option. I don't have hands on experience with the PDR, but it looks like you could install a TekLok in place of that belt slider. That would suck it up closer to your body and make it ride higher.
You will end up laying on your gear in multigun. It just happens, and sometimes, and it can be uncomfortable. I went to a Safariland belt last year with ELS on all my mag carriers and holster so I can move everything around before a stage, optimize the mags I'll need and get things out of the way based on my stage plan.

I used my race holster for awhile. Then there was a stage that made us go prone while the pistol was holstered. Bad stage design, but I did it anyway and ground the living hell out of my front sight. After that, I picked up a Thunder Holster from Hammer Armament for my 2011, and it does a fine job of protecting the gun and giving it a little more retention. That guy's edge work on the Kydex is the best I've seen. If you're shooting a more mainstream gun, the CompTac International is a great holster that will do anything you need it to do. Some people like to go with Level 2 retention on these rigs, but I never really felt the need.
What is it about your current holster that you think is unsuitable?

I think it may be a combination of them moving out of the competition market, combined with reports of poor quality and long wait times for repairs. I've experienced no such problems with mine.
The other thing is, they made a huge number of guns. There are just more of them in the world, so they're more common.

I made the choice not long ago because I just wore out my 650. 20-40k/year since 2004 and it's just breaking down all the time. Dillon wants it back to rebuild it, but I need to be loading like crazy right now for this year. 38SC is .40/round to buy. I'll cover the cost of a Revolution in the first season.

This is going to be a fun match. For the first time ever, the Wyoming Governor's Match will be a Level 2 USPSA match. Make plans now to visit the least populated state, and shoot at pieces of it. We're situated on a blue ribbon trout fishery, in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. If you can't find a good reason to visit Wyoming in the summertime, you're not trying.
