  4. Well........looks like I had a lock on second place everywhere this year! This was another great race. Lisa shot poorly for the first day and a half and in doing so gave me a great chance to builld a lead. I hate to admit this, but starting the third day I had a 26 point lead. By the end of that day Lisa had a 44 point lead. She gained 70 points in one day! You should have seen her go......she could absolutely do no wrong. I wish I could have enjoyed watching her performance more at the time but I'll admit I wasn't having much fun getting my butt kicked on six stages in a row. But I really can't complain. I shot a pretty decent match. Lisa just shot better. Congrats Lisa. I'll try again next year.

Congrats to all the other ladies too. As always it was a pleasure seeing everyone. But we missed you Julie! You know your spot on the Ladies Squad is waiting as soon as you can get away from your current project. Hope to see you back ASAP.

  5. I am tired of using my husbands Rem 1187, 12 ga for 3 Gun competitions. I used a Light Weight 1100 in 20 ga. for years with excellent results. I had to make the switch to 12 ga. when the rules changed to limit Open Guns to a 10 round tube. I couldn't find speedloaders for the 20 gauge. I want my 20 ga. back! Does anyone make speedloaders for a Remington 1100/1187 20 gauge shotgun?

    Kay Clark Miculek

  6. Wow, cool pic of Judy Woolley. I saw she didn't shoot the whole match...Was she there for only one day?

Judy and I taught a ladies camp at her home range in Plains a few days before the start of the Nationals. We were having such fun we didn't want it to end so I managed to talk her into shooting the Nationals. Even though Judy hasn't competed at the National level in twelve years she was game. She dusted off an old 1911 single stack in .38 Super. We quickly loaded up some ammo and Judy had time to get in about 100 rounds of practice. Of course the gun worked flawlessly with those 100 rounds and ran for the first stage of the match. After that it had multiply jams and by the fourth stage it had turned into a single shot. Judy gave it up but still had a great time hanging with the Ladies Super Squad and meeting some old aquaintances.

  7. Congratulations to our new Open National Champion Athena Lee. Athena shot a beautiful match. Her fast finger and fast feet served her well. She took the lead the first day and never relinquished it.

Congratulations also to Julie Goloski. Julie defended her title and once again claimed the Limited 10 National title. As usual I enjoyed watching Julie waltz through the stages with near perfect form. Julie is the definition of SMOOTH. Congrats to Jesse Abbott for her second place finish in Limited 10.

Congratulations are also in order for Rebecca Jones, Lisa Munson, and Megan Francisco. These ladies finished an extremely close third, fourth and fifth in Open. It's good to see some newer lady shooters coming on so strong. It's also an inspiration for me to get back into some serious practicing. Can't wait to give it another try next year.

    Good Shooting to All,

    Kay

  8. Hi Bang Bang. Welcome to the forum. I throughly enjoy shooting my CZ 75. But when I really want to race.....give me an Open Gun. That red dot sight makes a huge difference for cross dominate, poor eye sighted people. (Hopefully you're neither.)

Look forward to seeing you at a match soon.

  9. Hi Ladies. I just wanted to give you some updates on several Babes With Bullets camp that are coming up in the next few months.

There are still a few spots available for the camp in Montrose, Colorado that is being held right before the Handgunner World Shootoff match. In fact, your entry into the camp also gets you a free entry into the Winchester Challenge which is kind of a warm up for the Shootoffs. Camp dates are July 8th and 9th and then we shoot the Winchester Challenge on the 10th. Julie Goloski, Lisa Munson and I will all be instructors for this camp.

The next camp is also a steel shooting camp held before the Steel Challenge in Piru, California. Camp dates are August 12-14. Lisa, Julie and I will all be there.

The next camp is a Practical Pistol camp in Fulton, New York. Right now instructors for this camp are myself and Sheila Brey (first woman master class shooter). If I sign up just a few more women I'm hoping to also have Doni Spencer as an instructor. Dates are August 24-26.

Check out the details for all of these camps at www.bang-inc.com or drop me an email if you have questions.

  10. I am indeed a Grandma! Kassidy Kay was born on May 8th. She weighted 6 pounds, 6 ounces, was 18 inches long, and is absolutely beautiful. Both mother and baby are doing great. I'm having some "Grandma----ster" shirts made up for the Handgunner Shootoffs. Kassidy is tiny but she's got long fingers. I think she'll be able to handle a double stack just fine.

  11. OK....this will be my last post from the hospital. I finally talked to a toxicologist that specializes in snake bites. He tells me that my blood platelet count could remain low (40's to 60's) for weeks! I'm busting out of here tomorrow no matter what the local doctor says.

Interesting note.....did you know that the people at the Florida State Poison Control Center will not talk to you if you are under a physicians care. I asked to speak to them four days ago but they refused saying they could only give information to my doctor. The specialist I finally talked to is with the LSU Medical Research Center and the Louisiana Poison Control Center. He says if I had been his patient he would probably have released me days ago but says he doesn't blame the local doctor for being over cautious since this is not his area of expertise.

Anyway, tomorrow I'm out of here. Thanks for everyone's well wishes and prayers. Jerry and I really appreciate it. I'll be seeing all of you at a match real soon.

    Kay

  12. well darn. blood count went back down by 10 points at the midnight check. good news is that there was a 4 point increase at the 6 am check. i lost a little ground. the frustrating part is that there is nothing proactive i can do to help myself. doctor says we just have to wait it out. i don't sit and do nothing well.

next check will be at noon. keep your fingers crossed.

    kay

ps....other good news is that i can actually tell i have knuckles today!

  13. hi guys. i'm back for some more one handed typing. i am still doing fine. i was returned to the icu for some additional doses of antivenom. i think i managed to set a new record with a total of 52 antivenom doses. evidently i had a nontypical reaction to both the snake bite and the antivenom. besides the extensive swelling in my arm and hand i always felt perfectly fine......vital signs were always good and i experience no vomiting, convulsion, or any other symptoms. the reason i am still in the hospital is because my blood platelet count has been on a slow but steady decline. if it goes too low a blood tranfusion will be reguired. however, at the last check at noon the count had taken a pretty good increase. yeah! the lab is checking my 6pm blood donation right now. hopefully the platelet count will be going in the right direction. i'll let you know.

if you know an "increased blood platelet count" prayer i'd appreciate you using it right now.

    kay

  14. Hey Everyone.,

Thanks for the well wishes. I am out of ICU and doing fine. The swelling is still substantial in my hand and arm but I think I am over the worst of it. That's all for now as I'm having to type one handed and the good hand has an IV in it. Thanks again. See you all on the range soon.

    Kay

  15. I knew that Julie Goloski had taken a fall down the stairs at her new home but I didn't know until today that she has several broken vertebrae.

Julie.....best wishes for a speedie recovery. Look forward to seeing you back kicking butt at 100%.

    With respect and admiration,

    Kay

  16. Hi Zena,

We've got two Ladies Action Shooting Camps scheduled for the east coast this year.....one in New York and one in South Carolina. Try to make it to one of these camps. You'll meet lots of other women shooters, have a great time, and go away a better shooter.

    Welcome to the forum.

    Kay

  17. The USPSA Junior Camp is scheduled for June 27-30. Cost of camp is $800. There are full paid scholarships available through the USPSA and the Brian Haas Foundation. You can get all the details at www.bang-inc.com .

Kyle....if you will email me the contact information for your friend I'll be glad to give her a call.

    Kay

  18. Well guys, thanks for all the input. Unfortunately my daughter is unable to hold up a youth model pump shotgun. She does not mind the recoil much but she just can not manage to keep it up for any length of time. So she says that she will wait for the club to start with the .22 cal rifles and pistols as she does like those after shooting them.

Again, thanks for all the input.

    Todd

Don't give up yet Todd. Try a Remington 870 Lightweight 20 gauge Youth model. Get one with the wood stock so that you can cut it down. It is very important to make sure the stock is not too long for your small daughter. If the stock is even a little bit too long for her she is forced to hold the majority of the weight with an extended support arm. Holding weight with an over extended arm is hard for anyone. I'm guessing that right now when she tries to balance the gun she tends to lean back. Cut the stock down enough so that the center of balance of the shotgun is closer to her body and she doesn't have to lean back. This might not result in the perfect shotgun stance but it will make it easier for her to support the weight of the gun. (You've got to start somewhere!) Be sure to save the piece you cut off the stock. You'll be adding it back on in no time.

    Kay

Try a Remington 870 Lightweight 20 gauge Youth model.

Whoops.....scratch the 870 model. I meant to say a Lightweight 1100 or 1187. I'm not sure they make a lightweight 1187 in 20 ga. but you should be able to find a used 1100.

    Kay

  19. Hi Ladies,

I have finally got my new website up and running. You can now register and pay for the Ladies Camps (and Junior Camp) online. We have nine Ladies camps scheduled for this year. Since we are getting more and more interest from the absolutely new, never before touched a handgun crowd, we have reserved several camps for novice only. We have also reserved a couple of camps for experienced shooters only. The remaining camps will be a mixture of novice and experienced shooters but we will have enough instructors to divide the campers according to skill level if necessary.

One camp that might be of particular interest to the ladies on this forum is the one just before the Open Nationals in Montana. This camp is for experienced shooters only. My good friend Judy Woolley is hosting and helping instruct this camp at her home range in Plains. Many of you haven't been around long enough to remember Judy but she is one of most gifted shooters and instructors I have ever met. Anytime I am having accuracy issues I give Judy a call and she manages to straighten me out. Check out the details of this camp on the website.......Judy is truely a mountain woman and lives in a beautiful rustic cabin. The accomodations might not be for everyone but I can assure you we'll have a blast and learn alot at this camp. It's also a great warm-up for the Nationals.

To check out information on all of the camps go to Bang, Inc.

  20. Finally catching up on the home front after having two Ladies Camps in Tucson with the Area 2 match sandwiched in between. As usual I had a great time instructing the camps. Lisa Munson and I taught the first, more advanced camp. Then we were joined by Julie Goloski, Judy Woolley, Sheila Brey, and Kippi Leatham for the second, giant, beginner camp which had thirty-two participants. What a classy and talented bunch of ladies to work with!

My Area 2 match went well. I didn't burn any one stage down but I stayed fairly consistent across the board. As usual there were some very inventive stages. The props were spectacular. But I have reservations about stages that can cause a shooter to lose the match because of something unrelated to shooting. The infamous Roller Coaster created such a stage. I had a great time shooting it and would love to do it again, but I would not like to see such a stage at a match where the stakes are really high like at a World or National Championship match. On the other hand I love the fact that the stage designers for Area 2 are always coming up with something new and challenging. I guess that's why this match fills up in hours. It's simply FUN!

I'm now looking forward to a little down time. Well, with a retail store I don't guess I can call the Christmas season down time but at least I don't plan on doing any traveling until the Shot Show in January. I hope all of you ladies have a wonderful holiday season. Look forward to shooting with you next year.

    Happy Holiday

    Kay

  21. OK, I'm not going to take it personally that most of you voted for Athena......actually that's where my money was too! I shot with Athena at several matches this year and I just couldn't stay with her. What can I say, she just had a bad Nationals.......it happens. But I'm sure she will be back with a vengence next year.

I loved this match. It was made for me! Three stages that resembled the old 50 yard standards we used to see at every Nationals only shorter! And there were plus 25 yard shots thrown in on most of the otherwise squirt stages. You really had to be able to shift gears in the middle of the stages. There were no long field courses with long sprints either. Even the high round count stages were divided into short sprints and in most cases many of the targets could be shot on the move. Slower feet were not a huge disadvantage if you were willing to shot on the move.

I too was impressed with Desiree who I soundly beat by .4911 points. Sometimes alot of luck mixed in with a little skill can make the difference! I was also impressed with Rebecca Jones who shot an amazing match considering it was her very first Open Nationals. Rebecca finished a strong third. Unfortunately I never got to see either of these ladies shoot.

Along with Desiree, Rebecca and Athena there were several other ladies that came away with some excellent stage percentages. There were at least five women that had 80% to 87% on individual stages. Way to go ladies! You've got the horsepower......with time and lots of practice the consistency will come.

I might add that I was not one of the ladies that had high overall percentages on any individual stage. In fact, I only won one out of eighteen stages. But I did stay in the top three on 2/3rds of the stages. This time around slow (but not too slow) and steady won the race!

  22. I'm in South Carolina for a Babes With Bullets Camp. A small camp of eight women this time. A couple of camp veterans and six new ladies. Just came back from dinner which involved some good eats, much laughter and good conversation. Looking forward to working with another great bunch of ladies. I'll keep you posted on our progress.

    Kay

  23. Hi Linda. I'll be seeing you next week at the BWB Camp. My guarantee for the BWB Camps is that you will go away a better shooter and have a blast!

As for shooting more for the social aspects of the game........that's great. I enjoy competing but I wouldn't still be doing this after seventeen years (just shot my 17th nationals in Barry, IL), if it weren't for the people I meet and the friends I have made over the years. You've got the right attitude.......just keep trying to improve your own performance each match and don't worry about what everyone else is doing.

Welcome to the forum. See you soon.

    Kay

  24. I want to add my congratulations to all you ladies. We saw several new names in the top eight in both Limited and Limited 10. Way to go!

A special hurrah goes to Lisa Munson. Julie is very kind, but the truth is Lisa absolutely kicked butt in Limited! She took the lead on the second day and simply left the rest of us in the dirt on the way to her eighth Limited title. She beat the rest of the pack by 90 points even with a massive jam on Stage 15 and an absolutely terrible run on Stage 16. Great job Lisa!

Julie dished out an equally impressive butt kicking in Limited 10. I really enjoyed watching her shoot that single stack .45. Good luck at the IDPA Nationals next weekend Julie. Judy and I will be sure to toast you from a mountain top somewhere. Do you're thing!

    Kay
