  1. Mine always comes out clean....zero drag. The only time I had problems like you describe (trying to take the holster with you on the draw), the little screws that go through the front of the trigger guard on my STI had come loose and were wedging themselves between the sides of the slot in the holster. See if they're tight and not sticking out past the side of the trigger guard, hope this helps.

  2. Shawn - I'm with you for the match in May. I will be at the the WI Section on the same day as the April match. I have my shotgun good to go. But I don't know what kind of ammo to bring. Any suggestions there as far as load and no. of rounds.

    As far as rifle you bring the AR, and I already have plenty of ammo for that one.

    Is there any kind of limit to the round count for rifle / shotgun stages?

    No worries about the April match...it's set to be a classifier match and maybe a couple of shotgun stages for fun, the 3gun really starts in May.

    Opinions vary as to shotgun ammo but I just buy the cheapest 12ga they have at Wally-World the weekend before the match (we run a mossberg 590 pump that will eat anything and only really shoot it at 3 gun once a month, except for the occasional round of trap to garner funny looks from guys using $25K Italian handmade over/unders :lol: )

    The shotgun stages tend to be around 16 rounds each (2 stages total) and the rifle hovers around 32 rounds each (2 stages total). I've got a few 40 rounders for the AR so unless things go seriously bad :( you won't have to reload. Hope you like iron sights! B)

  3. I don't know what you are talking about. The parts I scavenged off your gun worked just fine for me!!! Congrats to Shawn on makin' the jump to the wheelie. We could use a few more ladies in the camp too...hint, hint... ;)

    At least the link works! <_<:wacko::)

    C'mon out Jim, we've got a bunch of extra gear and you're more than welcome to use it!!! Hell, that just gives me the excuse to lend you my AR and use my M1 Garand instead. Guess I'll just have to blow targets off the sticks at 5 yards again like last year and piss all the grumpys off!!! :blink::D:lol::lol::lol: YEEEE-HAW!!!

    You're more than welcome to join our Squad! Someone's got to keep Shawn in line! :)

    Always bad when the wife calls in backup! :ph34r:

  4. DUDE, NOT FUNNY!!!! Mine came back with a molester priest first and some autopsy results second, then the molester priest and some more about the toxicology report on someone, after that I get a USPSA lookup then a bunch of foreign language stuff that must be bad......

    +100!!! <_<:(:angry:

    After the match results came this one from a site called "Abuse Tracker":

    http://www1.poynter.org/dg.lts/id.46/aid.53660/column.htm

    Then an Otaku page (Japanese animation uber-fan) in Japanese and a bunch of other stuff. Like HSMITH I must say I'm a bit dismayed by what started out as a funny idea! :unsure:

  5. [Merged thread]

    A local powder dealer has about 24 pounds of Vectan SP-8 on sale for $10/pound. I like the price and after looking around here all I could find were some very favorable posts on SP-2.

    I looked at Nobelsport's website and after slogging around for half an hour (should have taken French instead of German in college!) I found a burn rate chart from them:

    http://www.nobelsport.fr/nobelsport/fr/sch...vacite_2006.pdf

    They have it burning the same as HS-7, SR 4756, and 3N37. It looks like I can come up with a load that makes PF and is safe. Has anyone ever used this powder for their Open .38 Super?

    Thanks!

  6. There I was, sitting in my lounger watching CSI Miami with my wife tonight. While taking a sip of my favorite beverage the bad guy (complete with stocking on head :ph34r: ) decides to shoot a guy he's trying to rob.

    They go into a close up shot of the guy pointing the gun just off camera, then he fires the shot.....and in slow motion they show the slide move back and what pops out??? A brand new UNFIRED ROUND complete with the bullet still in the case!!!!!!!!! :lol::lol::lol:

    I had to watch it 3 times in slow-mo (Thanks DVR :wub: ) and couldn't stop laughing! Now any of you NSA guys reading this please pm me with the secret kung-fu technique necessary to kill someone and have the loaded round eject afterwards. Hell, if you can figure this one out you'll make billions off the competitive shooters alone....imagine loading 4 mags of 20 and after your done shooting the stage just picking up the still loaded rounds and putting them back in your mags for the next stage!!!! ;)

  7. I admit that I was a bastard and didn't clean my AR for a week :( but I didn't expect to find this blue crystaline stuff on the baffles of my comp when I pulled it out of the safe this morning!!!

    Do any of you have any ideas what this is? I reload for it and the only thing that has changed is the powder (trying out Accurate Data Powder 74). I've never had this problem with other powders before and I'm wondering if the DP-74 is at fault?

    Or maybe I should clean my damn rifle right after I get home!! :wacko::ph34r:

  8. Winchester 55g FMJ

    We were going for the cheapest way to reload .223, and to see if it was any good. Worked out to 9.2 cents each including shipping and hazmat, without any brass cost, and shot well enough for what we're using it for! B)

  9. Well folks, I managed to get to the range and chrono that batch of DP-74 loads I accuracy tested last week, and let's just say the results are INTERESTING to say the least.

    Monday afternoon, low 70's F, 0-5mph winds N-NE, dark grey overcast, using a CED Millennium chronograph at a measured 10 feet from the barrel. I shot these loads from 2 different AR-15's to get velocity data from different length barrels.

    All loads using LC-05 case (trimmed to 1.750”), WSR primer, 2.230" OAL, and a light crimp. The info is as follows:

    Charge = High - Low - Average - Extreme Spread - Standard Deviation

    #1 – AR-15 with 20” barrel, 1:9 twist, full length gas system, and a miculek comp.

    24.5g = 2936 - 2704 - 2812 - 232 - 78

    25.0g = 2944 - 2804 - 2847 - 140 - 45

    25.5g = 3012 - 2805 - 2924 - 207 - 83

    26.0g = 3051 - 2898 - 2980 - 153 - 51

    #2 – AR-15 with 16” barrel, 1:9 twist, mid length gas system, and a miculek comp.

    24.5g = 2783 - 2534 - 2682 - 249 - 81

    25.0g = 2879 - 2640 - 2766 - 239 - 97

    25.5g = 2938 - 2788 - 2868 - 150 - 47

    26.0g = 2952 - 2724 - 2858 - 228 - 76

    After looking at the first group over the chrono (scary SD! :blink: ) I couldn't believe the groups I shot a week before with ammo out of the exact same batch came out with numbers like these!

    20" Barrel, 1:9 twist, 10 shot groups with irons from the bench at 50 yards:

    24.5g = 2.25" group

    25.0g = 1.37" group

    25.5g = 0.75" group

    26.0g = 1.12" group

    These were the best group sizes I got with each charge weight today (nice and sunny with very little wind :) )

    I didn't believe my chrono anymore so I borrowed a ProChrono from a friend that was at the range and set it up in line with mine and just before it so they would both take readings off the same round fired. They agreed with each other +/- 6 fps average and never more than 11 fps. I believe this ruled out chronograph problems as a source of error.

    To add some perspective, the data is for groups of 10 shots of each charge weight in each rifle. I know that more rounds would be better but I only had 20 rounds of each charge weight left. :( I don't know if more rounds would have pointed out some obvious flyers or would have made matters worse!

    All the rounds were loaded on a Dillon 650 using the newer type powder measure (the one without the springs) with the large charge bar installed. I weighed the charges until I adjusted it for one throw at the needed weight and then dropped 5 and averaged them to fine tune the drop. I did pull out and weigh charges after 20 and 40 loads (made a total of 50 for each charge weight) and they were both +/-0.1g.

    Do any of you guys see anything that might explain (besides the powder itself) the tremendously high extreme spread and standard deviation!? Any insights you might have would be appreciated. I was thinking that I might load up 50 of my favorite load on the good ol' Redding and use the Benchrest powder measure to drop the charges and see if that brings the numbers in line?

    But the fact of the matter is that I'll be using this ammo at a local 3 gun match with a maximum distance of 75 yards. All the chrono data doesn't mean squat compared to the accuracy and it will definitely work for it's intended purpose. B)

  10. It is foolish to attempt reloading without completely understanding what you are doing, and WHY.

    I have not seen much of that kind of basic info on the net. I have several reloading manuals that do cover the subject.

    Understanding why a change in a certain parameter produces the result it does is the key to safely working up a load that isn't found in any reloading manual. You'll never find any of my .40 limited loads or my wifes .38 super open load in any manual out there. In a sense we're all wildcatting loads that are designed for specific firearms, and knowing what result we'll get from changing anything within a load keeps us as safe as can be.

    I've got 4 manuals on the bench right now and constantly borrow different ones from friends because the information can never hurt. I've also picked the brains of one kind gentleman incessantly (every time he sees me he thinks, "crap, here comes the kid with a million questions again" :D ) whose been reloading for more than 50 years, wildcatter to the core, that has really helped me understand. I say buy all the manuals you can afford!

  11. The grand total with shipping and Hazmat was $460.35 and that figures out to just over 9 cents per round without the brass cost (local PD shot up a 5 gallon bucket of LC-05 during their qualifications :wub: ).

    And the truth about what happened to my last pacycheck comes out... :rolleyes:

    I guess that means I'll be shooting lots and lots of 3-gun while you watch right? ;)

    You know you're in for trouble when your wife finds out about these things online! :blink::ph34r:

    It's a damn good thing she shoots even more rounds downrange per month than I do! :D:wub::wub::wub:

    Love you Baby!!!!!!
