I ended up putting the same Hogue grip sleeve on. It was a real fight to get it on but I know after a while it will stretch out. The grip was still too small so I just taped some pipe foam around the back to act as a filler to get an idea how much filler I need. I ordered a large M&P grip insert and will try to adapt it to the Axiom grip. What I have now with the foam works but isn't very eloquent.

....and we know eloquence is important;) Regardless, I’m anxious to see the M&P grip insert mod because I don’t particularly like the skinny Axiom grip.

  2. These are fantastic timers, well worth the wait . One of the matches I shoot has a full compliment of these and makes use of the Bluetooth transfer. It works very well except on one bay that is very close to a cell phone tower - we just manually input on that stage.

The sensitivity is truly amazing. In dry firing my open gun it will pick up the hammer fall if I place it within 3' of the action. Also picks up .22 carbines easily set on #7 sensitivity.

  3. I’m extremely happy with my Gen 3 MPX. Only have 1500 rds through it but it has been very reliable. I tested about 20 different loads in it all the way from 95gr 100PF to 147gr 150PF and it cycled and locked back with them all. I do keep it very clean including the gas block. I also like that it’s fairly light right out of the box.

  4. DPP 7.5moa for me. I’ve got three of them and they all have been excellent in terms of performance and battery life. I’ve also got an RTS2 on my open gun - I like the brightness of the dot but it definitely eats batteries in a hurry.

  5. Thx all. After talking with a local PCC guru I decided to go with CFE Pistol which burns a little cleaner. I tested from 3.6gr up to 4.2gr and settled on 4.0gr. Chronoed at 941fps and 138 PF with good dot retention and lively (read: not sluggish) feeling.

  6. Last season I wore my trusty Salomon Quest 4D 3 GTX boots - great boots and a very popular option around my area. Salomons have always fit me well so I did some searching within the brand and found the X Ultra Trek GTX. It’s basically the same boot but a few ounces lighter. So far through about 6 weeks and several matches (as well as hiking with my pooches) I’m very happy with them.

  7. I bought an STI Match Master with no optic (but it did have an RTS2 Brazos Mount) that I picked up here on Enos for $2,100. My gunsmith tweedled it a little, I added a Zig racker and bought an RTS2. So, I’m into it for about $25-2,600 and it runs like a champ. Zero malfunctions through 4,000 rds (jinx!) and it’s my fav pistol. I think your first open gun should not break the bank but should give you an idea of what you like/don’t like b4 you dump a wad on a high dollar custom.

  8. I just acquired a CZ Scorpion Evo 3 S1 with a 16.25” barrel (with faux suppressor) and have some 147gr Precision Delta FMJ RN bullets on the way. I’ve got about 5lbs of Power Pistol on hand and would like to use that for my loads. Does anybody have data I could use as a starting  point? Or, if PP is a bad choice for some reason, what other powder would be preferable? My aim is to have a soft shooting load for steel and USPSA.

  9. As others have said, if you know a local shooter that has one for sale its great because they can give you tips on loads/bullets and OALs they've tried. Almost all open shooters handload to customize the "feel" and sight tracking of the pistol. Also, most of these guns need some tweaking to get them running consistently when new (mag/ejector tuning etc.). Unless you are fairly skilled and knowledgeable or have a gunsmith as a friend then they can be very frustrating until you can make them function reliably. A used gun from someone you know usually has the kinks worked out.

  10. When I built my first AR I put a 1MOA Holosun dot on it. When sighting a target 100 yds out I would see a cluster of dots rather than a single dot. I had lasik surgery about 15 years ago to correct astigmatism and have been told by others that is the reason for the cluster effect. I replaced the dot with a Vortex Strike Eagle 1 X 6 and am very happy with it.

Of course.  And having said all that I shoot only RTS2's.  I also have started fixing them myself.  So I know the whys of the issues and I can say it's not a requirement that they need to keep failing this way.  C-more could be saving a lot of time and money by not having to do all these repairs.

My main point is 4 matches and some practice does not merit a conclusion of "this dot is robust".  You must stay vigilant and connected with all your equipment.

Waco, I’m curious what exactly you fix and how you do it?

  12. After reading all the posts on this topic and talking with local shooters I'd say it's completely the luck of the draw on both RTS2 8moa and DPP 7.5moa. Some people have very good luck with one, bad luck with the other and vice versa. I've got both and think I prefer the DPP's triangle.

  13. I'm not as experienced as many who have already posted here but one thing that helped me to keep from fumbling at insertion is to keep the pistol high - right in front of your face.
