I appreciate the feedback. 8.1.2.5 appears to apply only to grip safeties on 1911 style pistols, and 8.1.2.4 indicates (not explicitly, but by way of example) that a thumb safety has to be engaged. It doesn't appear to be clear either way.

I have an M&P 2.0 that I've been running in USPSA limited. This is the thumb safety model. At present, this model (to the best of my knowledge) is only being manufactured with the thumb safety. It can be easily removed an replaced with factory frame plugs. I believe this is not legal in production. Does anyone know whether or not it's legal in limited?
