  1. Hey everyone - The gunsmith called today to tell me the internals of the Bodyguard were filthly, most likely from years of carry - works great now he says, $32 out the door - Hope this is all it is - Thanks for all of the advice - sw
  2. Thanks for the input - do you think the last owner may have loosened the ejector rod by taking the whole assembly out of the frame for routine cleaning? sw
  3. Hello everyone - I am the new owner of a new to me S&W Bodyguard (638) - the gun was owned by two different LEOs, and I believe has been carried more than it was shot - I have not fired the gun yet, but after an afternoon of dry firing, the trigger began to bind on double action - a hard pull is now needed to move the hammer and cylinder - at times it seems the gun is locked, but the lock is not activated - It went to the smith today - Any thoughts? As far as I know, no one has removed the sideplate - the last owner did tell me that he has removed the cylinder many times for cleaning - Thanks in advance - sw
  4. Hello everyone - The title says it all - I have used a Scattergun Tech mag extension in the past, and did not like it - The detents on the magazine extension were so shallow that the magazine extension would turn out on recoil - I do not want to use a magazine clamp to hold the extension on - How are the Nordic extensions? I would like to know if the detents are deeper than those of the Scattergun Tech - Thanks in advance - sw
  5. My XTR is at Burris right now having the reticle changed to a crosshair/plex - I loved the reticle, but found it too small; I would lose the retilcle if I looked in to vegetation or at dark background - I know, turn the illumination on, but the battery life keeps that from being a real option - with a heavier cross hair I think I can use this scope bettter indoors and outdoors - I will sight in for 200 yards and call it good - I really wanted to make the supplied reticle work, but it was frustrating moving the gun around the living room and losing the crosshair - like looking through a telescope - worthless - BTW, it is a true 1x - works well up close - sw
  6. Hi everyone - Does anyone have experience running flip up or fixed iron sights on Yankee Hill 45 degree angle mounts? Pics and thoughts? Thanks in advance - sw
  7. Hey everyone - I received my Burris XTR 1-4 scope today. The glass is excellent, just as it was in a Euro Diamond 1-4 scope I owned previously. A few positive features: -Very, very close to 1x - As I have noticed, their seems to be slight magnification at objects inside 5 to 10 yards. At ranges past this range, the scope does appear to be 1x. Two eye use at 1x seems to be very fast, although not quite in the Aimpoint category. -The illumination is accessed via a real switch, instead of the dreadful green pressure switch on some of the other Burris scopes. The power knob has a protrusion for a solid purchase, and the switch features off positions or dead spots between each level of illumination (a feature I really like). Incidentally, the recoil of 5.56 would activate and deactivate the illumination on the Euro Diamond/green pressure switch setup I owned before this XTR. -As stated, glass is excellent, much better than an older Burris Signature scope I own. I can detect no yellow tint with my eyes, but did see a very yellow cast or tint with a Meopta 1-4 I owned for a short period. -30 mm tube. A few negative features: -The reticle is very similiar to the horse shoe reticle of the IOR 1.1-4 CQB scope. The downside to this is that it seems to be somewhat small compared to the conventional crosshair reticles of scopes I have used previously. Although this scope has illumination, I fear that I may lose the non-illuminated reticle in vegetation. Testing to come. -Only the horseshoe is illuminated. -And as stated, the reticle does wash out in sunlight. This is not a problem for me as I do not intend to use this optic as an Aimpoint-type reflex sight. -As with many of the newer Burris scopes, the whole occular lens moves to change the scope magnification. This feature can make the use of some flip-up scope caps problematic. I had to sell an older Midwest Industries flip up rear sight because of interference with the scope cap when magnification was changed. I am hoping the newer Midwest Industries flip rear sight is lower and will alleviate this problem. So far, I am pleased with this optic. For around $600 US, I don't see another alternative in the price range. Once my gunsmith buddy mounts this optic in the LaRue mount on my REECE build, I will post on shooting results. Thanks for reading - Slim Whitman
  8. Hey everyone - I have one of the XTR's coming in the mail - to those that have this scope, does the reticle look tiny or does it fill the scope? I had a Meopta for a bit, and I found the reticle absolutely tiny - Thanks in advance sw
  9. Hello everyone - I have just received my AA LE kit and love it! Works great with Mini Mags and Golden Bullets. My question to other users of this product is how well are your AA magazines holding up? I love this kit, but I am wondering how long the magazines will last - the feed lips look less than robust - Any thoughts would be appreciated - sw
  10. The dot is adjustable for intensity, but it is not visible in dayling outdoors - but inside, the dot is bright -
  11. You are welcome - This is my first low powered variable. As I wrote in the review, when objects are viewed fairly close up (under seven or eight yards) there does seem to be some slight magnification. I wonder if other variables in this range have the same problem. But anything viewed beyond that distance seems to be at 1x. Another odd characteristic of this scope is that it gives a 'bubble'-like view through the scope around the edges of the sight picture, if that makes any sense. I don't know if this specific to this optic or the magnification range - I know getting a true 1x in a scope is not the easiest thing, or so I have read. I am still deciding if I lke the optic, so I have not mounted it yet - sw
  12. Hello everyone - Well after waiting for someone to buy one of these scopes and giving a report, I decided to take the plunge - Check out my evaluation on AR15.com - http://ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=341958 Thanks Slim Whitman
  13. So, extractors can be ordered? Please tell me how - Your source is wrong.
  14. Hello everyone - There has been some great information shared about the M&P, but I find it interesting that there seems to be no discussion about the extractor - From what I have learned, the extractor is a factory-installed part. Although some owners have managed to get the extractor out of the slide, it is not something easily done - and the factory does not offer them for sale - My source tells me that if the extractor breaks on the M&P, the slide needs to be replaced - If this is indeed true, this issue is keeping me from buying the M&P - this part in any gun is a very hard service piece of the gun - Thoughts? sw
  15. Hello everyone - I am looking for a 1-4 power variable scope with true 1x setting - I will probably end up with the Meopta K Dot, but have seen this Burris advertised - Burris Euro Diamond Scope 30mm Tube 1-4x 24mm Illuminated 3P#4 E-Dot Reticle Matte Has anyone seen one in person? I wonder if it is in fact a true 1x - Two hundred bucks difference between the Meopta and Burris - Thanks in advance SW
