  1. I bought a Vr80, used my Shadow 2 CO gun and added a red dot to my rifle.  3gun open.

My 147 grain loads are so soft I am not sure a comp would help.

I had the CZC plate system installed as I like the option to change optic brands or have a rear sight.

This is what I think my plan is... did you need to drop slide weight for USPSA Carry Optics with your S2?

A dot and large mag on a S2 should get you most of the way there. It's only 3Gun.

However, buyer beware if you're going to feed it a steady diet of 9 Major. There are plenty 75s (admittedly not S2s) with cracked frames down here that have been run in Open Major. Anecdotal evidence suggests that two seasons are about what you'd get out of one. Czechmates/TSs seem fine, slide stop pins notwithstanding.

Only plan to shoot 9 minor from it.  If I start shooting USPSA again I’ll look for something more appropriate for that sport.

  3. I’ve owned a few STIs (DVC 3-gun, Edge, etc) and they were great shooters. I just always felt I performed equally as well with the Shadow2. I don’t want to spend $5k on some of these truly custom guns... I just won’t shoot it enough to feel it’s worth the price tag. I do realize there is a difference... just few it’s negligible for my 2x / month competition shooting.

  4. Another benefit to the Glock over others is cheap mags! Plenty of aftermarket parts that can make the trigger and sights better than factory.

Another option is find a 2nd hand CZ Shadow II or SP-01 shadow. I picked one up for $850 recently and it’s like new.... loving the extra weight and balance.

I use one of these. Cut it down to length. Locate where you want the ELS mounts, mark the holes, and take a soldering iron to burn burn through. Works great and belt is cheap enough that if you screw up, just replace it.

    Good advice, thanks!

  6. I like the belt clips from Binary Engineering which accept the ELS fork. They attach to any belt and are able to move around so you can make minor adjustments.

    Thanks! Will check them out!

  7. I use only the ELS system since it came out. Easy to move gear around as needed or completely remove when not needed. Don't need to fight to remove gear from between the inner and outer belt.

My biggest problem is with my pistol mag pouches... if I want them to be at the same height, there is a pretty wide gap between each female ELS Mount. To mount them closer, I need to stagger the height.e508b102dd42333213c156ba22281090.jpg

  8. Which do you prefer and why?

I currently have an ELS setup and like the fact that you can switch attachments without having to remove the belt, but part of me thinks Techloks would be better stages like all shotgun where you can really customize the position of all your shell holders.

  9. Obviously a new guy here. New to sport, not new to firearms. As I approach 40 and getting older I figured I need a new hobby. getting pretty excited to shoot my first 3 gun match in February.  Needless to say I'm really here poaching ideas, tips and gear choices. Once I get a season in, Maybe I'll be able to spread some (mis)information

    Best of luck! my advice....

shoot what you have and have fun

    Go slow until you’re comfortable

Wait to buy gear until you know what you want

Don’t buy cheap gear, it will only cost you more a few months later when you upgrade

If you’re in the North Texas area by chance, I’m happy to introduce you to some of my new friends I’ve met shooting down here...

  10. That’s not bad at all. I’ll have to look around for used salvage places. Although I just build a part of my bench yesterday and it’s pretty rigid. This part I’m not planning to mount any of the big presses, maybe my single stage for push though sizing but I doubled up on 22/32nd plywood and it’s very very sturdy. And I’m going to add 2 2x4s between the middle of the cabinets for increased support in the opening their. But this part of the bench I imagine it as mostly working on guns, trimming brass etc. so my vise, and trimmer will be setup here. Then on the right side wall I’ll build another bench and this is where the big  press’s will be mounted.

I was just at Home Depot today... they had butcher block... about $200 for 10ft x 25”. They had smaller sizes as well (pic of 50in for $96). 2ff89f92d210164441cd143ebb36930d.jpg

  11.
After shooting FFP scopes for a while, you'll find yourself pretty weirded out by a SFP scope the first time you turn the zoom dial and the reticle stays fixed.

That’s exactly what I don’t want... I want the transition between rifles to remain natural.
