Had two "standards" a 1-6 and 1-8, and one platinum 1-8. All had very bright illumination. Not much difference that I could tell in clarity between the 1-8s but the platinum had less forgiving eye-relief.

I have a standard 1-6x, but it's a gen 1 and absolutely not daylight bright.  Even on a lightly overcast day with the illumination maxed out, it just barely gives the reticle a reddish tint. I haven't used the illumination more than 2-3 times since I got it.  I've heard that the gen 2 Primary Arms scopes are brighter, but I haven't tried one out yet.

I tried out the Remington and RIA magazines with Arredondo extensions last night.  I am now able to fit 22 rounds into the Remington magazines, and they ran without a hitch.

I'm still at 21 with the RIA.  And the RIA won't fit into the gun when it's full.  Downloading it to 10 and it works.  I'll have to switch out the magazine extension to the original.

Was that with the stock follower and spring in them Remington mags?

I didn't get the Arredondo follower because the followers from the 15-round Mecgar mags worked with the extension.  I'm going to be spending some coin with them when they get the extensions back in stock.

Not the follower, but the insert.  It bridges the gap between the bottom of the magazine and the extension.  Mine would not function without them, both the stock and Arredondo follower would hang up without them.  Basepad Insert for Arredondo Para HiCap Basepads by Arredondo

I tried emptying the magazine with the extension on it and the follower got stuck in the extension.  I'm going to swap out the stock follower for one that works with the extension and see if it still sticks when I get home tonight.

Do you have an Arredondo insert to try as well?  With the factory Mecgar mag I needed one with both the stock and aftermarket follower installed.

Is there a difference in the feed ramps between the 9mm/22TCM 1911 and the straight up 9mm RI high cap 1911?

I was test firing the 9mm/22TCM 1911 yesterday and the bullet tips were hitting the bottom of the barrel causing a stoppage.

When the pistol functioned, it was great, but the unreliability just turned me off to the thing. If the regular 9mm has a different ramp, and was reliable then I could jump on a 17 rd 1911.

There are some previous posts in this thread about the magazines that come with the combo model having the feed lips being slightly narrower in the front vs the back.  With them being narrower in the front, they can cause nosedive issues.  Search for "feed lips" in this thread and you'll find the details.

As I previously said, I bought these parts and the basepad and insert fit, but the extended spring didn't work with the factory follower and the factory spring/follower combo didn't feed reliably with the Dawson basepad and insert installed.  So I ordered the Arredondo follower (Arredondo Follower For Para 1911,HiCap) from Dawson and installed it along with the extended spring.  Ran a couple mags threw the gun yesterday and didn't have any issues.  Even with the new follower and spring, I can only get 19 reloadable and 20 max.  Hopefully the spring settles a little.  For $80 a mag, cost of mag plus the Dawson and Arredondo parts, I'd like to get more than 19 rounds.

  7. I got to shoot my new Rock Island 9mm today and it shot great.  I was just plinking in between 3 Gun stages, so I didn't get to shoot it for groups, but the sights seemed pretty close.  Unfortunately the factory magazine with Dawson extension, Arredondo insert, factory spring, and factory follower didn't work too well.  If I loaded it to capacity, 20 rounds, I'd get 4-6 rounds off and then start having FTE's and/or double feeds.  It cycled factory ammo and my reloads that are tuned for my G34 fine though.  I need to get the Arredondo follower and try that out with the extended spring that I already have that didn't fit with the factory follower.

I would say you do not need the basepad insert.  The reason they were invented was because Para did not extend the ribs to the bottom of the mag and the insert stopped the rounds from getting sideways.  The STI for Para mags had the rib all the way to the bottom like those do, did not require the insert.  On my mags that I can skip the insert I can get 21 in. (some of them, not all of them)

I tried it without the insert and the follower jammed at the bottom.

  9. I just picked up an RIA 51679 and have started down the road of trying to figure out magazines with the somewhat loose manufacturing tolerances that these guns are known for.

I bought this basepad Basepad HiCap for Para Extended Tool-less Design by Dawson Precision
This insert Basepad Insert for Arredondo Para HiCap Basepads by Arredondo

And this spring Arredondo Extended Mag Spring For Para HiCap

The basepad and insert work, I did have to do a small amount of trimming on the insert, but the extended spring does not work with the factory follower.  The closed loop at the top of the spring is way too small to fit the follower.  I installed the basepad and insert with the stock spring and follower and it seems to be working fine hand cycling.  I can get 20rds in the mag, but it won't lock into place with 20rds if the slide isn't locked back, it inserts just fine with 19rds on a closed slide though.  The mag also drops free perfectly empty or loaded.  I'll be shooting it tomorrow, so we'll see how it functions.

Edit: I added a few pics.  You can see where the basepad slightly rubs on the magwell.  A little filing or a quick hit of the Dremel would probably take care of that.
