  1. Update;  polished both the safety shaft OD and ID of the frame holes.  Just lightly touched the frame ID with a dremel polishing wheel and some fine compound.  Lots of tool marks under the polycoat, but I left well-enough alone.  The safety shaft needed quite a bit of polishing.  The polycoat was very thick and uneven in these areas.

    In the end, much improved.  I might go back and sharpen the tip of the spring detent for a more satisfying "click'

  2. Morning gentlemen,

    I believe this is the proper place for this question, but please advise if I need to move it elsewhere;

    My TSO has, and always did have an incredibly stiff safety.  After 1k rounds, and plenty of couch-time manipulation drills, not much has changed.  I also swapped the lever out to the S2 version, which I like a lot more.

    That said, is there a consensus on how/where I might begin to polish and smooth bearing surfaces, and will it help?  I was thinking about the ID holes in the frame, and the OD of the matching surfaces of the safety levers.  But I'm also suspicious about the two springs at the back of the sear cage.  Is it possible they are too stiff, and creating excessive friction?  In a perfect world, I'd like my TSO safety lever to feel more like a 1911, in which the friction force is much lower between positions, and the two positions engage with a satisfying "click".  That may not  be possible, but that's the direction I'd like to head.  Right now, my safety is extremely stiff through the entire range of motion, and the "clicks" can't only be heard, and not felt.

    Any insight would be appreciated.

    Thank you

  3. I know, I know. I get it.  I'm probably all alone on this island here, BUT;

    Does anyone know if there's a version of thin aluminum grips for the TSO that are designed to work without the magwell?  I'd like to give it a try.  My TSO is just a range toy, and the magwell forces me to squeeze my ten pound potato hands into a nine pound sack.

    Thanks in advance

  4. Thanks for the review.  A couple questions;

    I'm thinking about dumping my Shadow 2 for an A01.  I also own a TSO for reference.

    That said, the Shadow 2 just isn't close enough to the feel of a CZ-75 frame for me.  I have always loved the feel of the CZ-75 frame the best, but a lack of real checkering was the deal-breaker.  And no, the cast checkering on the SP01 frame doesn't cut it.  I'm intrigued by the AO1's design based on the description that it was "the way Angus would have done it".  I'm hoping what that means is that Angus wasn't completely happy with the CZ-75 frame (like me) and decided to do something about it.  Something the Shadow 2 has failed to rectify, at least for me.

    Since you are lucky enough to hold an A01 and an S2 side-by-side, can you elaborate further?  I'm curious to know if the A01 feels "significantly" different than the Shadow 2 in terms of girth and height under the bore, and whether or not it is closer to the feel of a CZ-75 frame, or the TSO frame.

    Thanks for your time. Much appreciated.

  5. For some reason, I thought a 6" model would be the natural progression.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but the original P210 came in both 5" and 6" variants.

    Any rumors out there of which I'm not aware?

    Thanks

  6. I can't help you, but only speculate that the market should be flooded soon with reduced power springs. I mean why not? It's a stupid spring.

    I'm wondering if the hold-up is simply this current safety issue.  Once the public-trust is restored the accessory market will open.  Just my opinion

  7. I had a CTS a couple years ago, and asked CZ Custom about adding a bull barrel. They said no.  They were worried about the CZ slide being too thin in places.

    At 2017 SHOT Angus said they decided to make their own slide to hold a bull barrel.  So I guess this is a "CTS-like" slide and bull barrel.  Angus also mentioned that they'd be working on their own frame next.

    I want one, but I'm spoiled by the checkering on my Shadow 2.  If they offer this slide/barrel combo on a Shadow 2 frame . . . I AM IN!!!!!

  8. Okay, okay.  I get it. Skip the guide rod.  I guess I just thought if I was removing the buffer, I should replace it with something else.

    I will run the gun without buffers and be happy. I've been shooting my CZ-75B SA without any recoil management and it hasn't self-destructed.  While I understand the buffers are very durable, I don't like the idea that they will wear eventually.

    I'll put the extra $90 towards magazines

    Thanks team!

    Hello everyone, I wanted to send out a quick update on my original post.  I ended up buying a Shadow 2 and was able to get it to the range for its first work out during my lunch hour.  I brought along my Stock 3 for comparisons.  Only was able to shoot a round of Dot Torture and some distance drills with both guns to compare perceived recoil as well as how both sights return to target and timing on each.

    The Stock 3 gun feels a tad better in my hand.  I wear a large size glove and its a large frame gun.  The CZ feels just slightly smaller and the blackstrap of the grip is contoured just a tad different than the Stock 3.  When shooting they both feel the same though.  The new checkering on the front and back of the grip on the S2 are very well done.  Much better quality than the Tanfo's similar checkering.

    The S2 has a tighter slide to frame feel to it than my S3 but that could be due to it being new and my Stock 3 having almost 2000 rounds through it.

    I put 85 rounds through the gun today shooting 135g Blue Bullets over 3.2g of PrimaV.  This load makes 130 PF out of my Stock 3 so not sure what the Shadow 2 does yet.  Maybe next range trip I'll bring the chrono.  As far as perceived recoil goes, I'd say in my opinion, the Stock 3 was just ever so slightly less in felt recoil than the Shadow 2.  I fired freestyle, strong, and weak hand to verify this observation.  Both guns recoiled up and torqued to the right slightly in about the same manor when shooting.  Also, both guns sights seemed to return about the same on target for me with the S2's slide having a bit more velocity than the Stock 3.  If I didn't have both guns on hand today I wouldn't have noticed the differences.

    The only thing I've done to the S3 is replace the main spring with a 11.5lb.  Recoil spring and everything else is as stock.  I must say I'm actually impressed with its trigger!  Pull is butter smooth and the DA is averaging 7lb .4oz and SA is averaging 3lb .4oz.  I'd like the DA to be a bit lighter but I am totally happy with the crispness and weight of the SA.  Hardly any creep and short reset.  I actually like it as much as my Stock 3 that has had every PD spring installed, bolo, and Titan hammer plus full polishing on all friction points.  Compared to my old CZ SP01 Shadow, that needed a lot of polishing and trigger upgrades to get rid of the grit and pull where I wanted it, this new S2 is miles ahead for a new gun.

    I would agree that in this guns case, it truly is about ready for competition right out of the box at least for my shooting style.  Well done CZ!

    Awesome!  Thank you for the comparison.

    If I understand you right, the S2 feels a bit smaller than the S3.  That's what I was hoping for.  My S3 is too big for me.

  10. Any think the safety on their TSO is too stiff?  I'm talking about the effort it takes to rotate it?  The force required to rotate mine is about as high as the force to click into the detents.  I wish it was smoother and lighter between the detents.

    Anyone ever improve this with polishing?  If so, where?

    Thanks

  11. No one ever talks about whether their Tanfoglio is the large frame or the small frame.  Is this just assumed?  I've never held a small frame version, and I'd be curious to know if there is a big difference.

    Below is that video, but the guy sounds foreign and is using the metric system.  Doesn't that mean he's from a country that can get the small frame version?  So which one is in the video?

    Not sure if this will help.

    Am not one of the rotten and spoiled sob's that has a shadow 2 already, but maybe this will give you a flavor of how the TSO's compare to a traditional 75 (seems like everyone has shot a 75 at one time or another so I am making an assumption). Going back and forth shooting yesterday you definetly feel the higher grip with your hand seated into the TSO but it seems like it does not screw up your index. My 75 is actually wider, but that it only because of my choice of grips.

    Shadow 2 adjustable magazine release would definetly be better I think. Mine (TSO) is digging a tunnel in my left hand.

    Yes!  This helps a ton!

    Thank you very much!

  13. So I called CZ-USA today and spoke with a sales rep and their gunsmith.  I was looking for as much information as I could gather about the dimensional differences in the grip area between the Shadow 2 and the TS Orange.

    I can't decide which one I want, but I just sold my  Tanfoglio Stock III because the grip area it was a bit too big, even with thin aluminum grips.

    Both the sales rep and the gunsmith agreed that even though the Shadow 2 takes the smaller CZ-75 magazines, the grip has significantly more girth.  In fact, both agreed that even after holding the Shadow 2 and the TS Orange, they wouldn't be able to declare that the Shadow 2 was smaller than the TS Orange.

    So now I'm nervous.  The original CZ-75 frame is perfect for me, but I really, really want checkering (no grip tape).  I'm concerned that buying the Shadow 2 will feel like the Stock III which I don't like.  I know some say the Stock III and the Shadow 2 are close cousins, but I also know that we can only get the large frame version of the Stock III.  I would have assumed people would be more correctly comparing the Shadow 2 to the small frame Stock III.  Now I'm not so sure.

    Anyone have any insight that can help me?
