I appreciate your honestly here.  But I'm surprised ZEV let's you run the non-ZEV parts in your guns since you are sponsored by them.  Usually that is a deal breaker for sponsors.  Or, if you do run other brand parts, you do it on the "down low".......

Most USPSA National Champions are sponsored and using custom fitted aftermarket parts such as barrels and triggers. The relationship you have with your sponsor and how you perform and present yourself is what matters.

  2. Hi guys,

I think I should jump in and give you a good idea of what happened to the Zev OZ9 from start to where it's at right now, and that should clarify a lot of things and hopefully help you make a good decision or fix your current issues.

I am a competitive shooter and i've been sponsored by Zev and shooting the OZ9's since the very beginning. In fact, I have the first batch that Zev ever produced, with all 3 of my guns serial number below 00100. I have over 130 000 rounds with the guns, so trust me, I've had probably all of the possible issues you could imagine or already had. Gun firing full auto or bursts, barrel lug sheared off, broken slide stop, broken slide post, failure to extract/eject, magazines (10 rounders) won't drop, etc etc. The good thing is, Zev have been very receptive and listened to the issues and fixed them very quickly.

    Here are the most common issues and fixes ;

    - Gun firing auto/burst ; Zev Recall, they will replace your trigger bar/parts. It works very well, no issues anymore

    - Extraction/Ejection issues ; Zev replaced the extractor for the new "enhanced extractor" with the new longer extractor plunger and spring. Look for the Zev // hashmarks on the new extractor. Also, I recommend you install a Glock Gen 4/5 Ejector (on the trigger housing)

    - Barrel lug shearing off ; Zev have redesigned the barrel lug, new metal, new rifling. This one is in the mail and will have it next Wednesday and I can update you guys if interested.

    - Broken slide stop ; Zev are now making their slide stop in-house and the issue is fixed. I recommend you install a Glock Gen 3 slide stop if you have one.

    - Magazines won't drop ; Zev have replaced their magazine release for a new design that is narrower and will drop 10 round magazines no issues.

Is this a pain in the ass ? Yes. Did Zev release the Zev OZ9 too early ? Probably. Did they work hard to fix all the issues ? f*#k yes. Remember that Sig had to recall all their P320 models because of the Firing Control Unit safety issues. It is not uncommon for a new firearm to face issues, the most important is that they do something about it, quickly.

I have all the above fixes on my guns, all 3 of them, and I haven't had one malfunction in over 60 000 rounds. The most important thing for me as a traveling competition shooter and instructor is reliability, and I can say that now I can trust my guns to perform and function flawlessly regardless of what ammo I am shooting.

    This is my build for all 3 of my OZ9 for IPSC/USPSA Competitions ;

    - Johnny Glocks Hybrid trigger w/flat shoe. (Reason for Johnny Glocks is I can adjust the reset to a very short one and glass break)

    - Johnny Glocks Striker

    - Johnny Glocks safety plunger

    - Johnny Glocks safety plunger spring

    - Johnny Glocks trigger return spring

    - Johnny Glocks 4.5# striker spring (or Wolff)

    - Zev ISMI 13# recoil spring

    - Zev polymer red striker cups

    - Zev polymer red channel liner

    - Zev polymer red striker sleeve

    - Zev polymer red extractor plunger pin

    - Zev enhanced extractor

    - Zev enhanced extractor plunger/spring

    - Zev Optimized match barrel

    - Zev Tungsten grip (coming soon, it is incredibly perfectly balanced, recoil is ridiculously flat)
    - Gen 3 slide stop

    - Gen 4 ejector

    - Trijicon SRO 5 MOA

    - #4-40 x 5/16 Torx plus flat head screws

    - Glock 17 Gen 5 magazines

    - Wolff +10% magazine spring

    - Henning EDC PRO basepads

    I hope this helps,

I believe I have the new reworked version.  And it just went back for inconsistent throws. Still think there are some bugs to work out!

I am done setting up my Evo and the powder measure is pretty damn accurate .. Once I got my throw to 3.9 of VV N320, I weighed and loaded 10x cases before chrono'ing and results are ; 3.92, 3.92, 3.94, 3.92, 3.96, 3.92, 3.98, 4, 3.92, 3,92   . Using Gempro 250 scale. I will post chrono results early next week for those who are interested.

The primer seating was almost bang on from factory and minimal adjustments had to be done for it to be perfect.

  4. I recently expressed my issues with setting up my new machine here before even letting Mark 7 know of them and it was a huge mistake on my part. If you run across an issue with any Mark 7 products before, during or after install, make sure you call them first. Their service is top notch, very professional, and they will sort it out over the phone or by facetime very quickly. I feel like an idiot. Sorry Jay, Thank you Mark 7  !

Has anybody tried using the Dillon powder measure on the Evo / Evo Pro, perhaps while waiting for the Mk7 measure to come back from service?  How well does it work, including at speed?

That or Hornady LnL powder measure look pretty accurate and consistent

  6. Hey guys, I just received my Evo Pro yesterday. I am currently setting it up and I am about to start making adjustments before running it.

For the ones that have powder measures issues when running automated, what dwell/index time are you set up to ?

Kinda sounds like guys are running the system fast like 2000+rph when have inconsistent powder drops and when running manual with the handle seems to be alright.

also, did you guys with the automated version did initial die adjustments with the handle or went right to the automation ?

Anyways, it’s missing my Swage Sense and the Powder Check because they are now backordered, but happy to see that this machine is not a myth anymore 😂

Now, I have found a resizing die holds the brass better centered on the priming station than the swage back up die. I tried it both ways with a M7 representative and we both agreed that sizing die worked better in centering the primer hole and reduce jams. I would also keep the swage sense for extra insurance.

Thank you, that makes sense, I will use another Lee Carbide Sizing die in the priming station and I will move my Mighty Armory swage back up @ swage sense station.

I don't plan on roll sizing, I have zero ammo issues with my guns so I will keep it at that. But you are right.

  8. Hey guys, my Evo Pro is finally on it's way home and I would like to confirm my reloading plan with you guys to see if my head is in the right place. Here is a little bit of background ;

I converted my Mark 7 Super 1050 to a brass processing machine ; it has the FFB shellplate, extractor tab, lvl 10 spring, bearing kit, index roller, etc etc.. I only reload onced fired military IVI 9mm brass and shoot a Tanfoglio Stock II Xtreme. I am anal about OAL, exactitude of powder and look of the finished round. I also only reload federal primers and Hi-Tek coated bullets.

    So here it is, I plan to setup my Mark 7 Super 1050 like this for processing brass only ;

    skipped the casefeed..

Station 1 ; Mighty Armory decapping die with Mark 7 Optical DecapSense

Station 2 ; Mighty Armory swage back up die with FFB Swage rod

    Station 3 (powder) ; empty

    Station 4 (bullet) ; empty

Station 5 ; Lee Carbide sizing die

    Station 6 (crimp) ; empty

Should I run a Lee Carbide Undersize sizing die @ Station 6 or it's unnecessary ?

    For the Evolution Pro, I plan to run the following for reloading ;

    Station 1 ; (casefeed)

    Station 2 (decap) ; empty

    Station 3 (swage) ; empty

Station 4 (priming) ; Mighty Armory swage back up die

Station 5 (flare) ; Lee universal case expansion die with custom carbide die (similar to DAA)

    Station 6 ; Mark 7 powder drop

Station 7 ; Mark 7 Digital Powder check

Station 8 ; Bullet drop with Armanov spring

Station 9 ; Redding Competition bullet seating die

Station 10 ; Lee Universal Crimp die

Should I keep the Swage Sense ?

If you have any constructive comments or suggestions I am all ears.

    Thank you !

I ordered my Evo Pro June 12th from Shooters Connection and received it earlier this week. It's setup now but I'm still getting things dialed in. Had some early problems with it stopping too often while priming, but that appears to be I had the clutch set too low. Previously I had it set to 2 for 9mm, now at 3 it's working fine (though when a bullet topples it really shoves it hard into the case.)

My biggest issue right now is the powder measure is throwing up to half a grain of variation (3.0-3.5 gr of N320). I haven't had a chance to talk to Mark 7 about it yet, but so far they've really shown fantastic customer support.

Can you keep us updated on the powder variation ? it's quite important to stay pretty damn much accurate. I reload 3.2gr of N320 as well and when travelling worldwide to shoot competitions I want consistency. Thanks

  10. pulled the trigger, after several weeks of going back and forth saying should I wait or should I just go with it.. I said f*#k it. done, Evo on the way ! hopefully soon. As soon as I get it I will setup, make some 9mm 147g match ammo, chrono it and post results.

yes and yes, why put stress on the Swage and Swagesense and possibly wreck cases?  Same thing goes for the bulletsense, sure the torque/clutch sensor will stop before it hurts the press but the bullet and case will be pooched most likely.

    God damnit !! another 600$

Allow me to clarify on some of the confusion in this thread. I spoke with Dan at Mark 7 today to make sure I received the information from the horses mouth, so to speak.

    1. The Mark 7 powder measure comes STANDARD for no extra charge on all Evolution presses. There is no plan to charge extra for the powder measure. When you buy an evolution as of right now, no dies are included, but you do receive their powder measure. It is NOT a spray painted Hornady powder measure. It is their own design.

I am not to sure about that.. If you look at the Evolution PRO picture on their website, if you zoom in on the Powder Measure, it has a sticker on it ; Manufactured by HORNADY

Until recently all my brass was outside and inside pickup stuff, so gravel and other debris could be in the cases. Nothing ruins the flow of loading like running into a rock in your case, and on the 1050 MK7 that could be disastrous if you forget to check for a double charge when you clear the jam. So I started processing brass, as it can do that while I'm working on guns or what not. A couple hours of 'smithing and I've got brass for a month or so. Then when it comes time to load, I've washed that brass and dried it after processing (to get the lube off and clean it in general), this makes the whole process worry free. Now having the Revo, while I'm loading the other Mk7 is processing brass for me, so I get twice as much done at the same time.

I'm strongly thinking about ordering a Revo processor (stripped Revo just for processing) or getting an Evolution and throw it on the Mk7 automation table and sell the 1050 currently sitting there. not sure what I'll do.

Roger, that's an expensive setup. but eventually my final setup as well. I don't need to clean brass that much because all mine is fired indoors so it's very clean. An hour or so in the dry media tumbler and it's like brand new. I was more concerned about the decapping IVI + swaging IVI while priming, bullet drop, seat and crimp at the same time on the other side on a automated press. Obviously going to spray a shot of Hornady One Shot case lube in the case feeder.

I'd rather do it all in one pass (process/reload) than having to process brass then reload, on two different very expensive setups OR having to change toolheads etc.

I shoot about 30-50 000 rounds a year so I want to minimize time on the machines you know

  14. 10 hours ago, slavex said:

I ran a ton of it on my 1050 Mk7 before I started processing it first. I don't see why it would be any different on the Evo or Revo.

Did you start processing it because you had issues ? Was it not smooth enough ?

I am just trying to try an avoid the step of processing as it just doubles my time on the reloading bench instead of being on the range training

    Morning,

Hey did you hear that?? Sounds like the powder check die on your manual press warning you, might want to go check it out.

The sensor on the auto drive system stops the press and on our manual press it gives off an audible warning to alert you.

We look forward to your purchase today ;)

    Thank You,

    Mark 7 Reloading Team

    Hi,

Before I press send to my order, I just want to confirm that statement. You are saying that the Mark 7 Gen 2 Digital Powder Check Sensor for the Mark 7 Evolution, have an audible warning for powder lever even when not connect (the wire) to a Mark 7 Autodrive ?

Can you explain this one a little more in details for me, or maybe I am looking at the wrong sensor/die.

    Thank you !
