  1. I ran into this problem in my 9mm 1911 with the cobra mags this weekend. Is there a solution to this other than buying new mags? I didn’t have this problem before so I’m wondering if it has to do with my magazine springs being worn?

I've been seeing a lot of mention of the .356 over the .355. Why do you like the .356s? I didn't even know it was an option.

I bought a sample pack of em to try and they were more accurate out of my shadow 2.

    135 grain Truncated Cone

    Winchester SPP

    3.2gr Titegroup

    1.1 OAL

    Mixed Brass

Haven't put these on paper, but they seem to be plenty accurate even out to 100 yards. Definitely no accuracy issues at standard USPSA ranges. Nets me about 130 PF out of my Shadow 2, 131 PF out of my Glock 17 with a factory threaded barrel.

I use almost the same load in my shadow 2. Only difference is 1.150 OAL and with the .356 diameter bullets. Spot on accurate.

  4. Once I switched to the MA dies my hundo pass rate has gone up to around 95-99% vs around 75-80% when I was using a Dillon and Lee U-die for 9mm. Most of my case gauge failures were caused from using bulged brass. To me those dies are worth it!

I have the Lyman Pistol & Revolver III and thought that data was identical to the Lyman 49th. That's what I found in cross referencing some loads to my shooting partner's 49th edition. Maybe I didn't check the .40 S&W data, but in the P&R III, Lyman didn't use TiteGroup in any .40 S&W load. Also, because of pistols that don't give complete support of the case-head, Lyman loads are held at or below 24,000 CUP. The older measuring system but well below the SAAMI limit of 35,000 PSI for the cartridge. From years back, SPEER sent me "medium velocity" data where they held pressure at or below 28,000 PSI. Some charges are a tad higher, some a tad lower than the Lyman 24,000 CUP data. Likewise, they didn't use TiteGroup either.

I would check the Hodgdon Reloading website if you must use TG. They did not restrict their loads and will run closer to the 35,000 PSI limit. Then again,I'd use a different powder. One that burns cooler and doesn't have to run at near Max Pressure to make Major. WST was mentioned and #5, WSF, Silhouette and True Blue are very good .40 powders on the slow end of suitable burn rates. Then you have faster burners like WST, N320, AA #2, W231/HP38, ZIP and the new Alliant Sport Pistol just to name a few. At Lyman Pressure, they claimed best accuracy with W231 and AA#5. AA#2 and ZIP are very similar to W231 but burn cleaner which is about the only knock on W231.

I checked hodgdons website andnit stated 4.7gr was the max charge for tite group. Maybe I got it mixed up with Lyman's 49th, I'll have to double check the book to see if there is a 40 recipe using tite group.

  6. I was curious if anyone else had a recipe to make minor power factor out of a glock 22 or 35 using titegroup, xtreme plated 180gr rnfp, and Winchester small pistol primers?

I chrono'd some rounds and had to up the powder charge to 4.9gr of titegroup at 1.125 overall length to get it to make major pf out of a stock glock 22. Lyman's 49th states 4.7gr as the max charge. I inspected the cases afterwards and didn't see any signs of overpressure on the primer. Should I play with the overall length or put a little bit more crimp on the round to lower the powder charge below the recommended max.

And if you have a load that uses 180gr xtreme rnfp and titegroup powder, please share if you don't mind. Thanks.

i tested prima v in 40 and liked it alot. I can't tell the diff between it and Red Dot except it's cleaner. I haven't tested any of the other vectan powders tho. I'm using prima V for 9mm, and I don't shoot that much 40. I ordered 20 cans of it.

If you don't mind, mind sharing your load data? I have some prima v and want to try some out in 40 major with 180gr plated for myself

They have a local guy by me selling this stuff. Good prices also. May have to try some. Just don't know much about the brand. I think he's selling 1lb tubs 18 bucks.

They're sold in 1.1lbs containers, little bit more bang for your buck.

I have recently, personally shot SNS 200gr SWC coated rounds under 5gr of titegroup and it doesnt smoke any more than anything else I tried them with, and that includes SR7625, E3, and Solo 1000. I have shot titegroup under Bayou coated and the powder coated Blue Bullets and they both run virtually smoke free. In fact my new go to 9mm load is titegroup under a 147gr Blue Bullet, and the last match I shot with this load had less visible smoke than factory FMJ loads others were shooting. I think titegroups reputation for smoke comes from people shooting straight lead, mixed with a little internet rumor. Regardless, most of my load development and target practice is done at an indoor range and titegroup doesnt smoke any more than anything else I use, if anything it is less smoky.

If you don't mind me asking, how much powder and what overall length are you loading the 9mm 147gr fp blue bullets to?

i haven't used it yet, but i intend to. In 9mm it seems to run exactly like red dot except cleaner, and red dot is my favorite 40 load. So i'll probably start by duplicating my red dot load, which would be 4.4gr with a 180 gr xtreme plated bullet at 1.14 oal.

I had read that the prima v is equivalent to tite group and people were posting chrono results with prima v and achieving the same velocity as titegroup in the same charge weight or pretty close 4.0 vs 3.9 so I figured it'd be the same in 40.

  11. I'm planning on loading 40s&w and 45acp soon on my Dillon 550. I purchased a few pounds of vectan prima v for my 9mm and was wondering if any of you use it for 40s&w and 45acp? For the 40 I'll most likely be using a 180gr xtreme plated em bullet loaded to make major pf  shot out of a glock 22 and eventually a sti edge and for the 45acp it'll be a 230gr xtreme plated rn shot out of a 1911. And if you don't mind please share your load data. Thanks.
