  1. I recently started having this issue around the time that my primer magazine tip broke. For around 1/10 primers, the primer will drop onto the shuttle or, worse, fling forward from the press and onto the floor. After the tip broke I replaced it with a new one. Since then, I've checked the height of the primer cup, and made sure that the primer cup travels all the way and stops directly underneath the primer magazine.

The only thing I can see that might be wrong is that the primer cup is slightly bent, and sitting slightly off.

Has anyone else done successful troubleshooting on this issue?

  2. I hate to seem like I was avoiding tagging you, but I didn't ask you directly because it was obvious that there was something going on behind the scenes that wasn't being talked about publicly. Even what you just posted was a non-answer lol.

Oh well. Guess I'll just go on with no more Area matches in TX.

That is not completely true.  Even a fast powder load will 'work' the comp a little.  Using a slower powder will generate more gas.  Building one load for three guns will end up with significant compromises.

I shoot SCSA with a custom 1911 Open gun.  My load is 7.2gr 3N38 under a 124 Plated or JHP.  It make 140PF and functions 100%.

My home club does not allow comps in competitions.  The also outlaw plated and jacketed bullets for steel.  So I fit a bull barrel to the 1911 Open gun and use it for those matches.  It will reliably run 124gr 95PF poly coated mouse fart loads.  I'm just as fast with that as I am with the comp'd barrel and 140PF loads.  It is certainly a lot quieter.  So you may want to try a fast powder mouse fart load  with the comp and see how you like it.

For USPSA you have to make PF, so you'll have to have at least two loads.

No comps, and banning plated and jacketed bullets? Is this an outdoor range between two high rise apartments or something?

Item 3 above made me think about an issue I had with one of my 5 MR guns.  First, it is frustrating (to me) how mag dimensions where they seat into the receiver can vary between the black 10 round,  the clear 10 round and especially the 25 round mags.  Even the 25 round black/clear are different on each side.  Ofter overlooked is the magazine latch plunger and spring.  Kidd sells these separately, but they also have a pull down option for a heavier tension spring...to help push the mag forward into it's proper position.  If the mag is not snug and level,  feeding can be an issue..............and so can ejection as the ejector is in the metal mag feedlips.

So if your mag has too much wobble perhaps this is something inexpensive to look at.....it fixed my one gun.

Glad that it helped you! Someone at the match mentioned it once and I figured I couldn't lose for how cheap they are. It really makes a difference!

  5. I did three things to make mine run, and I'd recommend them to people running any variation of 10/22

    1. Select an ammunition that runs consistently. All reliability stems from the ammo choice, and not all ammos work well in all guns. My go-to is 40gr RN CCI Mini Mag. I cannot run the 36gr at all, but the RN works perfectly. I've tried many brands and this is just what works for me. I buy it in bulk when possible and just don't use anything else for matches.

    2. Use a VQ or Tandemkross extractor.

    3. Use the Kidd upgraded magazine latch plunger and spring to hold the magazine tighter.

If those don't work, then it's probably not a bad idea to use your phone to take some slow-mo video of the gun cycling. This has been a game changer for diagnosing issues, and you might find something unique about your setup that you'll need to account for.

  6. Sight radius matters very little. I got to handle a Wiland setup at last weekend's match and I was really impressed. The sight picture was excellent, with the rear aperture being an appropriate size for mounting forward on the receiver. Very easy to pick up and chase through transitions.

I used a stock T/CR22 to get my GM, but the Wiland sizing is just right for steel challenge. It was significantly easier to use.

  7. I've been super pleased with my T/CR22. It has been reliable out of the box, and is good enough that I made GM in RFRI in two matches with it. Not too shabby for a <$350 gun.

Throw a red dot on there, get familiar with the division, then upgrade the stock, trigger, and barrel if you want to down the road. The Wiland arms stuff looks awesome, and falls at just the right price point.

meh. wutever. the real question is whether heavy ass sig legions in 40 will displace the fancy limited 2011's that cost 4-5x as much and require much more tuning and love to keep running.

Are they making the X5 Legion in .40 yet?

If the weight limit is X, why can’t I make my gun weigh X?

Im not saying you have to have a 3.5 pound gun to be competitive—never have. I’m saying it doesn’t make sense to have the weight limit be X and then not allow certain guns the ability to get to that number.

Either: weight limit is now “X”or ”weight limit is X number of ounces over weight on production list” would be fine

.... but “weight limit is X.... but you can’t add external weight” is quite silly.

I would have preferred that there be no weight limit established, since as MikeBurgess mentioned and you proved, it gives people a target to shoot for. USPSA obviously didn't consult me before they started these waves of rule changes to Prod and Poor Open. I view allowing frame weights as antithetical to the idea of a "carry optics" gun, like a compensator or a *thumb rest [generic]*.

Now here's where I get hung up- imagine someone could replace internal parts with tungsten parts to take a Glock up to 59oz. Should that be prohibited like a frame weight? I'd say yes, but it would have been legal even under the old rules, with the exception of that particular weight limit.

I made A class with a Glock in CO with a FF3 on a dovetail adapter...

but that still doesn’t mean a person shouldn’t be allowed to ADD external weight up to the division weight limit. With the limit now 59oz, a guy should be allowed to hang a 1.5lb weight off a plastic fantastic.

So so how long to I get banned for?

Until you realize you can hit M or GM.

There are already two divisions where people can make (mostly) unlimited modifications to their guns. Why should we further blur the lines between Poor Open and Open?

I’ve been saying from the get go that if there is a set limit on weight, you should be able to do whatever you want to get it to that number.

It seems to me hanging a weight off the off the front of your Glock is a lot less “modification” than milling the crap out of an S2 to get it DOWN in weight to make the old limit.

But im just a pee on.

Well the original rules for CO didn't allow huge slide cuts like S2 shooters needed.

I think moaning about how one's Glock isn't competitive should be rewarded with a ban that is only lifted once you prove you've taken a training course, or made at least 6 trips to the range for practice.

I was just thinking that if the chamber in the barrel was long and the extractor had some slop in it for the case to be seated off the breechface of the slide, it would stretch back (after expanding to grip the chamber) and that would locally "neck" or reduce the outer diameter of the case. But from the sounds of it not seating in other 9mm chambers it's expanding/bulging instead.

That's what I was afraid of. Maybe once CZ-USA is open again I'll call them and see if I can get a warranty claim on the barrel. I can't imagine it's supposed to allow the brass to expand that much.

  13. 5 hours ago, Benevolence said:

Is that bulging or is it necking underneath due to excessive headspace? Does it drop into other 9mm chambers?

does anyone know of any indications for CZ to make a long(er) slide P-10? If the C and F were the G19/17, then a G34 equivalent?

You'll have to explain the necking- I'm not familiar with the term.

The cases drop into my CZ chamber, but do not with any other pistols.

  14. Anyone else seeing problems with bulged brass from their P-10F? These loads were 145pf- too hot? The chamber on mine is pretty generous, and even this bulged case drops back in. After resizing, it causes this crease/fold on the brass and I toss any like it to be on the safe side. It's a pain when 50% of the cases fired from the CZ have this.

Sorry but I just don't get picking up 9mm brass. Sure you save money on reloads but think of how much time you need to invest picking it up, cleaning it, and processing it. Then you run the risk of cracked cases etc. Just not worth it in my opinion especially since I have so little time already that I can dedicate to practice itself. But I guess it is cool to brag on the internet about how much cheaper your ammo is.

Gotta do what you've gotta do to save money. Saving a few cents doesn't sound like much if you only shoot 1k rounds a year, but what about when you shoot 10k-15k? More? If you save $0.05 per round and shoot 10k per year, you're saving $500. If you buy brass for $0.03/ea, that's $300 gone that you could have saved by spending 15 minutes at the end of a range day.

I'll gladly give myself something satisfying to do in my free time that actually saves me some money.

  16. Any reason why you didn't leave the red return spring in?

Here's a short and crappy video of the Overwatch trigger in my Q5 SF. I've got the green return spring and the Sprinco safety spring installed which results in a 3 3/8 lb pull. It was about 3lbs even with the red return spring. The trigger is a big improvement over my stock trigger which I was a little disappointed in. There's still some creep in the pull but the break is pretty crisp.

  17. I'm going to be using my PPQ 5" M2 for production soon, and while playing around with setups I discovered that the SS guide rod and ISMI spring from my Gen 3 Glock 17 will fit and seem to function fine in the gun. Upon doing some research, however, it seems like people are split on whether this is appropriate for the gun, and some suggest just buying the $40 PPQ-specific guide rod.

For a cheapass like me, is there any downside to just running one of the many Gen 3 Glock setups I have in my parts box?
