I do not have personal experience with it but I have been told VV powder can have a fair bit of variance between lots. Once again, only hearsay, no personal experience.

About once a year I take a file and little buffing and knock down the high spots left at the end of the gouges. Doesn’t seem to hurt the running at all.

I will throw my vote for the Dawson mags. Out of the package, into the gun they have worked better than any of the others I have tried. Springer RO and DW PM9. They are a pain to unload the first 3-4 out of the mag is the downside, but I have found that to be pretty true for all the 10 round mags.

$20-$30/K seems normal for all the 40 I have bought. Different sources at different times.

Not that it’s for a Glock, but I run 4.4 grains of Sport Pistol at factoryish length (1.135). Zero problems with a 180 grain Bear Creek bullet.

I have an emp4 ccc in 40 that I picked up for a carry gun. I know the 40 is a much heavier steel gun than the 9, but it has been a rockstar for about 500 rounds so far. Just waiting on a holster now.
Not that I would really want to do it, but I shoot SS Major in 40 and this could be a backup gun for that if needed. It only weighs 5-6 ounces less than my competition SS.

I have run VZ Simonich Gunners for a couple of years. They are very sharp though. Like uncomfortable for most people sharp. After 4-500 rounds they will leave my hands tender and I have fairly rough hands. Nobody I shoot with likes them, but if you want aggressive they are hard to beat.

Been awhile since I shot SS in 45, the mags I used when I was were a mixed bag of 47ds, Tripp, and Kimber Pro-Tac. All worked fine. If I were buying all new mags today, I would lean heavily towards the ETM mags. I have heard nothing but stellar reviews about them.

I just picked up a Springfield RO that came with 2 Dawson 10 round mags. Years ago I had an older Springfield that I fought a lot to find a bullet and mag combo that worked. That said, while this RO seems nice, I found the Dawson mags to be absolutely outstanding. Seat easy with 10 rounds, no issues feeding. Haven’t had a chance to run it much yet, but the Dawson’s get a vote from me.

I don’t own one, so it’s not personal experience, but I have been told getting an all steel railed 9mm 1911 to make weight for USPSA is super hard if not impossible. Ymmv.

I recently discovered that even though Dan Wesson doesn't regularly stock any single-stack guns in .40, CZ Custom has an arrangement with them to build the occasional USPSA-optimized gun in .40. Seems like a good "semi-custom" option that won't break the bank as much as a complete custom build, so might go that route, eventually.
That is my new SS blaster. Dan Wesson SSC in 40. It’s not perfect, but it’s one heck of a nice piece. Also, not easy to find.

In 40 cal SS, Custom is about all that’s left. The older Trojans (mine included) ran pretty well.

Caliber is going to be a major (sorry, forgive the pun) factor.
I have several 40 and 45 SS guns, my next one is a 9mm. In that market, the sky is the limit. In production guns, Dan Wesson is hard to beat.

SS minor is a thing. There are GM SS shooters that choose minor and win with them.
That being said, in Major PF, choosing between 40 and 45 is a preference. I shoot SS major in 40 and I love it. No need to monkey with mags to barney up, since mags hold 9. I personally like the recoil of 40 compared to 45.

Both 40 cal 2011’s I have ran factory length ammo like a champ. If yours runs normal length, leave it alone. If you are having problems, start moving it longer, little by little.

At a level 2 match a couple years ago my gun went on the scale and came up 43.1. Chrony guy looked at it funny, picked it up. Checked that the scale went back to zero. Set it back down, came up 43.0. Looked at me with smile and said “You’re good.... barely.”
I shaved a little weight, just so I didn’t have a heart attack next time. Mine runs at 42.3 now.

I have a hard chrome STI SS .40 cal. But that makes me jealous. Very sweet piece.

I have plenty of STI both 1911 and 2011. With that, the PM9 is killer. Been drooling over getting one for awhile.

Around here night matches are kind of a thing for 3 gun. I found a deal on a SHOT show special 2011 that I couldn’t pass. Biggest issue, no light rail. If I had to do it over again, I would go for a railed setup hands down.

Years ago I decided to only run Speer Gold Dots for carry ammo. After reading many magazine and internet tests, the trend I saw was that Gold Dots were consistently at the top regardless of caliber and weight. They were rarely first or second place, but they were always consistent. Other plus point have have read and confirmed for myself is they are reliable in anything from 1911s, Glocks and anywhere in between.
