I discovered why charging the Maxim RDB became much more difficult over time. The forward tip of the charging handle had bent slightly and was significantly increasing drag. I was using a War Hammer and changed it out for a BCM. Works as it should now. You need a really strong charging handle for this buffer.

    Thanks for the tip...

I was initially very pleased with the effectiveness of the maxim defense rdb buffer and could manage to charge the pcc with my support hand only, hard but doable. After about 400 rounds it required both hands to charge my pcc. I started using some 30-weight oil to lube and that didn't seem to have any effect either way. It still works as it should but is much more difficult to charge the weapon.

Has anyone else had a similar issue?  Does anyone have any insight into this issue?

Yes, although I don't know what caused it.  It happened with the original second upper.  When I rebuilt it with a new upper receiver the problem went away.  Didn't do anything to the buffer itself so I don't have any advice as to how to fix it.

Okay, perhaps more than a bit stronger.

Shot it at the range today and found myself needing to pull fairly hard to charge the gun.  No crisis, but not exactly smooth either.

The interesting thing was when I went to put the gun away this evening I had real trouble charging it, but once I got it moving it went back to the way it ran earlier.  No idea what’s behind this behavior.

Still, definitely worth dealing with the hassle to get the superior recoil control.

Okay, at least found where the problem was.  When I switched to the other upper the charging ran smoothly.  There's something about the setup of the first upper that doesn't fit well with the buffer and makes charging next to impossible, and I assume the fault is with the upper.

Now, to use the buffer in a match tomorrow...

Did they provide any instructions on greasing or what grease to use for the bearings?  It's an interesting system.

Not that I remember, although I'm not that religious about reading instructions. 😎

    Nothing on their website...

I'll try lubing it today to see if it makes a difference.

Yes, the charging is a bit stronger, but I have a Devil Dog Concepts side charging handle installed - makes charging easier whatever you're using.  Even with a normal AR-15 charging handle I can't see any real issue.

  6. Just got my Maxim Defense buffer.  Works great.  Softer recoil with no other obvious downsides.  Can't comment on any changes in accuracy.

I will ad that my son got the 510c and his steel challenge scores really jumped up. His other dot was a tube style.

For Steel Challenge I aim with the outer circle more than with the dot.  Easier to pick up.

Suppressed too and loads range from 115 to 147.

My uninformed answer is you'll need different buffer setups for the very different loads, assuming that a "one size fits all" approach isn't what you're after.

Hiperfire customer service confirmed that both the Eclipse and PDI work in a PCC...

    Okay, a brief update.

Swapped in an Eclipse trigger off of an AR15 in place of the PDI.  Recoil seemed a bit sharper, and the group size opened up.  At 25 yards the PDI resulted in 3 rounds touching, which the Eclipse was more like a 1.5"-2.0" group.

    Hmmm.

Put the PDI back, and had 3 incidents of the PCC doubling at a couple of matches.  Not happy about that, as the last one jammed up the rifle and cost me 17 seconds to clear.

I ran across a Timney AR9 trigger that I had ordered earlier and never got around to trying.  Put that in, and took it to the range.  Seemed an even better feel than the PDI, and ran smoother.  Retained the previous accuracy.  No doubling so far. Looks like that's the one that I leave in (well, for now, anyway).

    Ah, the saga continues...

2-3 years ago there was only Eclipse on the Europe market :D It's 100% ok

    Thanks.

I've got 2 PDI triggers now, and I think I'm going to just stick with them.  Cheaper than buying 2 *more* Eclipses.  😎

I've got Eclipses on my ARs, and yes, they're marginally better in terms of trigger feel, but ...

  11. For a tough left lean I switch to my weak side shoulder and use my 45 degree offset red dot sight.  For a tougher lean, I switch to a full weak shoulder/weak hand stance.  For a ridiculous left side shot I use a weak hand stance, but take the rifle off of my shoulder and aim with the laser, observing where the dot falls through the wall.

Couple guys that I see shoot PCC indoors both have lasers that stay on. Seems like it works?

I have a light/laser on my PCC.  I’ve zeroed the laser at 7 yards.  Useful on an indoor stage, particularly when the stage has a bunch of head shots.

Outdoors I don’t use it much unless I have a really bad lean (laser only).  Don’t even need to have the PCC shouldered if it’s a horrendous lean - just look through the wall where the dot is.

I recently installed the JG Vex shoe on my gen 5 17 and am failure to fire issues, when shooting groups and slowly pressing the trigger back. No issues when slapping trigger aggressively. Apparently this is caused by the interaction between the trigger bar and firing pin safety, and JG said timney has an upgraded bar to address. I had zero issues with the timney shoe. I checked the timney website and don’t see any upgraded bars available. Anybody have any recommendations?

FWIW I removed all of the JC shoes and put the Timney ones back.  Works much better. (gen 3 guns)

2:01 stage was one where you start touching marks on a wall.  My video is deceiving as my muzzle was touching wall/stock on belt, but I was basically turned toward the way I wanted to start.

2:33 stage was what some would call a 180 trap.  There was a big handful of DQs there, unfortunately

Looks like a good time to be a lefty.  😁

Another vote for Taccom. I have Tim’s ULW barrel with upper feed ramp installed. So far any ammo that will fit in the Glock magazine has fed just fine.

    +1

I’m running an old 14.5”/3” carbon fiber wrapped barrel in one gun and my newer 10”/6.25” barrel in the other.  Both have been running great.

Timney used to sell an aftermarket Firing Pin whose Lower Lug was flat on the bottom, compared to the rounded radius of the OEM part.  This greatly reduced that drag, plus had the further advantage of a crisper trigger because the sear was releasing across a broad surface, rather than one whose engagement area gets narrower the farther down the sear moves along its travel.

Interesting, and worth a try.  Thanks.

I had to use a 6lb striker spring until I saw that people were filing down the top of the trigger bar due to striker drag.

Once I did that, I could return back to a factory spring with no light strikes anymore.

I recently even went down to a 5lb striker spring from the factory 5.5lb and everything still runs perfectly.

Checklist in addition to filing down the top of the bar:

    Striker channel is clean

The spring cups are seated properly

Polish striker spring and striker lug

Okay, stupid question - why would you need to use a reduced striker spring with the Timney trigger?  With the standard Glock setup, yes, but the Timney resets so the striker spring is already fully compressed.
