  1. I've just been humbled...... When I put the side plate back on, after cleaning it yesterday. I allowed the roll pin to fall out. This WAS MY FAULT. Not a quality control issue. I feel stupid and I can't find the firing pin spring. Argh!
  2. I finally settled on a 627 V-Comp instead of a 929. Picked up the pistol yesterday at my FFL. Ran about 30 rounds through it. Cleaned it up and was really hoping to put about 200 rounds through it today. The weather, here, is perfect for a day at the range. This morning, I'm doing some dry firing and the freaking firing pin popped out and fell in the floor. The pistol will no longer cycle the cylinder, so I'm thinking some parts have fallen into the mechanism and are blocking the hand. I'll pull off the side plate in a minute to confirm that. How could this happen? This is a brand new, not even had it 24 hours, pistol. What if I had been in a defense situation? This is a $1500 pistol from the Performance Center!!!!! I can't believe I'm actually sitting here complaining about quality control just like so many others have done in the past. I'm actually in shock! I'm sure I can fix it, assuming I can find all the parts, but I shouldn't freaking have to!!! This is crazy! Do you think I should just not do anything and call Smith & Wesson tomorrow?
  3. " I suspect, but do not know, that saying 'this gun needs this diameter bullet' is oversimplifying. I think it may be more 'this gun works with this diameter-shape-weight-hardness-pressure'. " Hmmmmmm. I found several hundred .357 Sig bullets in the reloading room last night. I no longer load .357 Sig. They are 125 Grain .355 JHP. I wonder how these would do through the 929. Might be interesting.
  4. Batmo - That is great to hear! I think I'll start looking for a 929 soon. :-)
  5. VanMan1961 - I'm using Redding 9mm dies in my 550.
  6. Alaskan454 - Thank you, I'm leaning toward going for it now..... :-)
  7. The bullets are a mix, but mostly Speer .355 FMJ.
  8. IHAVEGAS - That's nice to see. My situation is: I have approx. 3000 .355 bullets sitting around. I have no brass....... So..... My plan was to buy off the shelf Winchester plinking ammo to break in the pistol and have some fun while building my brass supply. I'm a revolver-aholic and really like everything "advertised" about the 929, but I've read so many issues about accuracy with .355 bullets, I've gotten little hesitant about getting one. Down the road, I expect I might have to be more selective in purchasing bullets (.356 or .357), but I would hate to think that I'd be wasting the .355's that I have. Does that make any sense?
  9. fenwick - That's what is really bothering me. If the pistol was reported as accurate by shooters with "off the shelf" ammo, as it is supposed to be, it would be a great package. Is anyone having luck with off the shelf ammo?
  10. I don't mind doing some tweaking on the pistol. I actually enjoy doing that. But, it does really concern me that the pistol is advertised as ready to shoot "off the shelf" 9mm, and yet, the barrels/cylinders seem to be larger than .355. Has anyone else slugged their cylinders and barrel? What was the result? MrDanCheck - Eeek! Bullets coming out of the case can lead to a bad day!
  11. I'll check it out. Thank you!
  12. VanMan1961, Thank you. That is exactly the kind of information I'm looking for. I've seen other posts which stated similar, but wasn't sure if that was the norm. I hope others can chime in as well. Thanks!
  13. I traded off my last 9mm Semi-auto several years ago, but I have about 3000 .355 bullets laying around the reloading room wanting to go boom. I really don't want to get another semi-auto since I don't like digging through the grass and snow looking for brass. I really like the looks of the 929. I like "projects" that will require tweaking. I'm not a competitor, I just like quality guns that shoot well. And, I'm a Smith & Wesson fan. I can't get a handle on the truth about the 929. Is it cut for .355 bullets? Will I see bad accuracy out of this pistol? The prices are not bad now. I just need to know, from those of you who have one, is it a true 9mm pistol? Can it accurately shoot .355 bullets? Thanks!
  14. I've loaded 1000's of rounds on my 550 with AA#5 with no metering problems. In fact, it meters better than Universal. I guess I got lucky?
