  1. Finally got the sights installed. I need to find some dry fire practice to start using. Everything has been so chaotic lately because we are in the process of selling our house.

Eventually things will settle down and I'll be able to devote some real time to the fun stuff again.

  2. I like Warren/Sevigny fixed rear, fiber front. If you change loads alot, adj sights give you flexibility... not needed if dial in your load/sights, and don't change.

As you mentioned there are probably more threads on this subject than almost any other equipment question.... this forum is repository of knowledge, learn to use the search function, read and digest, and by all means lets discuss what you glean from all that data. But its out there.

I found this little gem after a lot of reading and searching. Unfortunately searching for sight or sights nets a metric ton of results.

  3. So I know I need to replace my LEO trade in night sights with something a bit more competition friendly. I've tried searching for answers to this but you can imagine how many threads reference "sights".

I like the idea of a fiber optic front sight with a plain black rear sight. My questions:

-FO front with plain black rear or is there benefit with all black?

-Adjustable rear worth it? Main advantage?

    -Dawson/Taran/other?

The longer shots in each stage are killing me right now with the night sights so I would think a smaller front sight would be beneficial. I'm just looking for opinions/thoughts from anyone who has been through this before.

  4. I find myself making my own runs. I don't necessarily follow what the top guys are doing. I think watching them gets me feeling rushed but I also feel that watching them has been and can be beneficial in some ways.

One of my biggest issues (I feel) is my sights. I'm a big believer in "The Indian, not the arrow" but the LEO trade in glowing sights are way too big. Any intermediate to long shots I take, the target is mostly covered by my front sight. I'm looking for a simple set of FO sights (FO front and black rear) before my next match. I'm hoping this will at least aid me slightly in seeing an actual sight picture.

  5. I've shot two matches now and my second match was worse than my first. The weather was down right nasty but no matter what I did I couldn't turn it around. I was in a squad with most of the front runners of the match. I don't know if their amazing speeds were pushing me but I kept telling myself to slow down.

It seems most of my first shots were reasonably well placed but most of my follow up shots were the issue.

My question is, what did everyone do when they started that helped them improve the most? I don't have the luxury of shooting every day or week for that matter. I'm looking for that little gem of advice that changes me for the better.

  6. Welcome Johnny. I'm down in Madison. I'm still waiting for nice weather too.

If you Like competition shooting, try some USPSA as mentioned above. I shot my first match last weekend (in Lodi) and will be hooked for a long time to come.
