My hands get dirty when I reload, when I shoot etc. Blue or black fingers makes no difference

I wear gloves when i reload and rub my ammo in a towel after they come off press to get rid of excess lube. My hands dont really turn a color when i load magazines because of that.

  2. Tried froglube on several occasions. Not a fan of it. Its a pain to apply. You have to heat it to melt it. In the warmer months it work ok. The colder months i had malfunctions on guns that never malfunctioned before. Removed it and went back to traditional gun cleaner and oil. Never had a problem again. Only good thing about it was it smelled nice.

  3. If you dig around on the xtreme website you will read they don't recommend standard xtremes at open velocities. Only the heavy plate and hollow points are rated for high velocity open loads

yes i have seen that but is that refering to the velocity or because they tumble?
Probably both? The thin plating will shear away at near 1500fps probably. Once the plating is compromised there is no limit to what the bullet might do. I would assume tumbling could be expected.

In an open gun it wouldn't take much plating in a comp to produce radical bullet flight.

FWIW I have shot A FEW 124 HP and HPCB OVER1400 and they were nice clean holes

i stick to 124s since i shoot a shorty. I try to stay around 1375fps which is well under what they rate them at. Think they would still be getting damaged at that velocity?

  5. It really depends on the density of the powder, I routinely load 9.3gr SP2 in a 9x19 with room to spare, I've loaded as much as 10gr

HS6 is extremely dense, I am guessing you could get well over 9.5 in there.

yup i understand that. He is talking about hs6 though. Hottest ive loaded for hs6 was 8.1 gr and it wasnt leaving much if any head space.

Uhh... you sure about that? It is incredibly tiny. I load wayyyy more than that.

yeah you can load that much but i guarantee your bullet is pushing on the powder
  6. STI barrels are the slowest I've chronoed, so HS6 might not make major with Montana Gold 124s, but you could load a little shorter, use faster bullets (plated or coated), heavier bullets like 135s, or a faster powder like WAC, CFE Pistol, or Silhouette.

I'm not sure what 9.3gr or HS6 looks like in a 9x19 case, but I imagine it would be pretty close to the top.

yes that might be close to overflowing. If it helps, 6.9gr of cfe pistol under a 124gr mg gives me a 169pf as well. 9.3 sounds way too hot to me for a 9mm major. My friend gets a 178pf in 9mm with 8.4 of hs6 under a 124gr mg. Thats a full size though
  7. 9.1 of HS-6 sounds right in a 38 super with 115. As I'm at 8.8gr of HS-6 with 124gr in my full size 38super and I'm going to try 115 next and was going to start at 8.9 and go up to 9.1 of HS-6. Unless I'm missing something.

You are missing something: I am shooting a 9mm. The gun that I shot today was a 38, loaded with 8.8 and a 124. So I am trying to figure out how much I would need for a 9mm with 115s. If I did get a new gun, it definitely has to be in 9mm, I have zero interest in dealing with 38 brass.
i have found very little difference between the short barrel and a longer one. For instance, 3.9 gr of n320 and a 124gr xtreme was only a 20fps difference from a glock 34 and my matchmaster. My matchmaster with a 124gr plated takes 7.9gr 1.155 and it is a 169pf.

That is especially interesting because Glocks have notoriously fast barrels. Assuming we are talking about the factory barrel at least. Cause if what you are reporting worked out for me, then that would probably put me pretty close to right on at 9.2 or 9.3, since my gun is so slow to start with.

    very interesting.....

yes factory glock 34 barrel. I was expecting to have to load much hotter than i do to make major.

  9. I am all set with my Major .40 loads but it has been a while since I made minor loads for IDPA but I was unable to get below 140 PF.

I am looking for a consistent load to be in the mid 130's in either a Tanfoglio Match Elite or a Limited barrel.

ATM I have Tightgroup, Regular Clays, 700x, and WST to play with. I currently have a few Bear Creek bullets in .40. 155g SWC, 180g TC, 180g SWC, and 200g TC.

Does anyone have any minor loads with the components I have?

    3.8gr n320 makes 128pf.
  10. What about reducing the recoil spring to say 9 lb, would it be possible then for it to cycle at a PF 130ish?

i have a cz ts that runs all the way down to a 112 pf without any problems using the factory recoil spring. Just felt too light so normally run about a 128pf
  11. If those are the 2 you are set on, I'd say Czechmate. It's like having 2 guns in one. If you are just set on a metal grip? I'd say go with an sti and just purchase the metal grip for it.

Not to mention the 38 super will get pricey and in my opinion isn't needed when you can make major with 9mm for way cheaper.

  12. The bigger, heavier bullet should transfer more energy to the plate in the form work (moving the plate). The smaller bullet may have more energy, but it is going to lose a lot more in the form of sound, deflection, deformation/fragmentation, etc.

Go with the heaviest bullet your gun shoots reliably and accurately.

Do a search for bowling pin loads.... almost every one you find will be for big heavy loads at 210 PF or above. Heavy bullets deflect less... so they transfer more energy.

can't really compare what people are using to knock bowling pins over. They use heavier slower moving bullets to stop it penetrating so much. Steel you don't have to worry about that.
  13. In the picture, it looks like there's damage to the case rim caused by the extractor. Were you able to easily remove the case from the chamber? Ejector in good shape?

I'd go with an Aftec extractor since it's a 9mm.

There is always a mark where the extractor partially pulled the brass out of the chamber and slide off. I bought a Aftec and see if that will fix the problem. The fired brass was easily removed from the chamber either by hand or racking the gun again with the magazine removed. The ejector looks un-damaged (I think), I'll take a picture of it.
good move with the aftec. That should definitely solve your problem.
