I don't really have a home range. Just a berm in the back yard. Guess I can't express an opinion without a home range capable of hosting the world match. So I'm out of this thread too.

What about the rule about changing mags during the course of fire?
In previous years I recall that if a Competitor has a jamb and drops the mag during the course of fire he/she must retrieve the mag they started with and continue and cannot use a new mag.
I understand keeping the round count to 11 (1+10) but find this ruling to be unsafe.
I agree with you on that one Paul. It would be much safer to pick up a magazine from the table and reload than to pick one up from where it fell. Who cares as long as no more than 11 rounds are fired.

Not sure who is on the Rules Committee, but here are a couple of the rule changes we received dated 26 July 2016 for this years World...
1.2.7 No holsters allowed, all firearms cased.
2.3.1 Cowboy category shooters WILL be required wear a Cowboy hat.
2.4.2 Open gun must be shot first if shooting two divisions.
17.2 Prize distribution maybe (will be) random draw.
Cavern Cove's awards will be: First drawing will be for prize table prizes, Second drawing will be for firearms. All names from first draw will go back in hat for second draw.
7.1 Fingers must be out of trigger guard until start signal (Pistol)
7.2 Fingers must be out of trigger guard until start signal (Rifle).
Only two divisions, Limited and Open. cowboy and Mechanical will be Categories
Awards for categories are: (considering there are at least 3 competitors in each category)
Cowboy/Cowgirl (one category, regardless of age or sex)
Top Lady (female participants of any age)
Top Youth (both male & female 12 & under)
Top Junior (both male & female 13-17)
Top Senior (both male & female 62 & older)
And finally rule 3.2.2...stages will have 5-7 steel targets. Some may have poppers, but they do not need to fall (actually we'll have them set to not fall).
Hope it clears up some confusion. Remaining rules in the rulebook are unchanged.
Thanks for the update. Other than the random draw, I can live with the other changes. Although the finger out of the trigger guard start is a brilliant solution to a non-existant problem.

I don't know what is going on. No one seems willing to tell me the names of of the members of this rules committee. I even contacted the NSSF and their representative declined (refused?) to tell me. Just wondering why it is such a secret. The representative did say that prizes WILL be by random draw. Also stated there will be other rule changes.

We have young and for that matter old shooters that have been busting their butts trying to get better in preparation for the world championships... all year shooting state level matches and in some cases winning. What did they win? Sometimes a plaque and a hat. At the state level and even regional level I have no problem with this. But this is the world championships. Now you change the rules. Now that shooter that worked so hard on his/her game may win the match but win practically nothing. On the other hand a shooter that decided on a whim to shoot the world championship because it is close could win one of the top prizes. Sorry! It's just not right.

Just a reminder, any range can submit a proposal for Worlds for 2017. The more submittals, the more choices NSSF has as to how the match is configured.
What questionnaires? When? What match? Must have been kept a secret. I am not aware of anyone that saw or filed out any questionnaire. I was told that there would be something at the last world match. Didn't see it. Would have been a great idea to include it with the shooters packet if you wanted a good opinion poll.

My apologies to the OP (Matthew). This thread may have gone differently than intended. I'm just trying to bring out that we are all different and we all see and use our eyes differently. Some are able to shoot two eyed and use front sight focus without problems. Some are not. Front sight focus is a good way but not the only way. If you are doing well with target focus, go with it. Practice it. There are really good shooters that use front sight focus. Some that use target focus. And some that say they use an intermediate focus. They all work. I saw a video where Doug Koenig said that when he shoots iron sights he uses target focus out to about 20 yards. There are many other great shooters that do this. As you said in your OP, you said you see the front sight clearly even when focused on the target. That's all you need. Focus on the target but concentrate on the sights. After that just break the shot without disturbing the sights. The Shot will be accurate.

I never said trigger manipulation and anticipation had nothing to do with it, but without a front sight focus, he could not truly identify and call his shot, which would/could have in all likelihood saved him a mike. It all starts with the front sight focus, everything else beyond that is executing the fundamentals based on that input. without a front sight focus a mike was impossible to avoid.

How is it then that many top level shooters can use target focus and somehow avoid mikes? Of the two, sight picture and trigger press, the trigger is the most important. You can have a perfect sight picture but anticipate the shot and yank the trigger and you will have no idea where the shot went. It's impossible to call the shot. On the other hand have a bad sight picture but perfect trigger press and it is easy to call the location of the shot. The perfect front sight focus crowd don't seem to realize that it is possible (even easy for many) to focus on the spot you want the bullet to hit and still see a good sight picture. Yes even good enough for head shots at 25 yards. Now back to the weak hand mike, most don't practice the weak hand like they should. The timing between the mental command to fire and the actual shot is different from strong hand or free style shots. The subconscious anticipates what it is accustomed to and the shooter pulls the gun down and away from the shooting hand before the shot fired. To say his mike is absolutely caused by lack of front sight focus is doing him no favors.

Is it random draw for the prize table or order of finish? Current rule book says order of finish for the world championships.

Some ranges have club rules requiring finger outside the trigger guard. The NSSF RIMFIRE Challenge rule book is not addressed as far as I know. An old version of the rule book stated finger off the trigger but that was removed a few years ago and is absent from the current rule book. Just practice it both ways. It doesn't slow you down unless you are shooting the one second challenge.

Reset has three requirements. 1. It has to happen subconsciously. 2. It has to occur during the recoil cycle. 3. It has to work every time. If you can release just to the reset point during the recoil cycle, without thinking about it, and make it work every time no matter what the stress level, go for it. I sure can't.

If you're seeing 2 sets of sights, it may be that you are shooting with the wrong eye. Sounds weird, but if a right handed shooter tries to see the sights with his right eye and is left-eye dominant, that causes a problem. I might suggest to find out which is your dominant eye and if you're cross-eye dominant, make an adjustment to hour pistol shooting.
Actually, when using target focus and shooting with both eyes open, you will always see two sets of sights. When shooting fast you just may not be conscious of the second image. Shooting two eyed with target focus is totally natural. You do it thousands of times a day and started doing it when you were a baby. Many really great shooters shoot this way. Of it works for you, don't fight it.

I've been competing with Buckmarks since I started in rimfire challenge in 2010. My granddaughter is running my original frame with a Tacsol barrel and Tandemkross comp and trigger and Volquartsen hammer in open division. My wife and I shoot limited. Her's is a buckmark lite again with VQ hammer and straight trigger. Mine is a little more exotic. I took a 4" bull barrel, turned the forward 3"+- down to half inch and sleeved it with an aluminum sleeve making the barrel 6 1/2". It's lighter than the original 4" barrel but gives me the sight radius I like. Again VQ hammer and flat trigger. Trigger pull on all three guns is 1 3/4 at the middle of the trigger.
Now I started with the Buckmark because that's what I had and stuck with them because they work. I would probably have suck with Ruger if that's what I started with. Both work extremely well. I think the Buckmark is a little easier and cheaper to customize.

Some of us don't have unlimited supplies (read money) of mini-mags to use in practice and matches. The granddaughter will go through around 6000 rounds in practice pistol alone. Gotta use the cheap stuff for practice and save the MM's for match.

The other issue with comps with small ports is cleaning. .22's are notorious for leading up comps. More ports means more ports to clean.

Because the two guns have different trigger pulls, the timing of when during the trigger press the shot fires is different. If you watch carefully and see the sights lift (don't blink), your subconscious will start making the necessary corrections. See the sights lift and shoot. You will come out of it. If you can do it with the glock, you can do it with the smith.

Soooooo, this sport is for the amateur shooter but they can win 50k. Ooooookaaay..... Wouldn't that make them pros?
